From the Principal’s desk … SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS 2016 Have you considered being on School Council? All Government schools in Victoria have a School Council. They are legally formed bodies that are given powers to set the key directions of a school within Departmental provided guidelines. In doing this, a School Council is able to directly influence the quality education that the school provides for its students. Nominations are now being called for parent and DET reps and we need you!! Parents on school councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that can help shape the direction of the school. Nominations are now open for 5 Parent category and 1 DET category positions on the Murchison Primary School Council. We also have 1 Community Rep vacancy to be filled by a parent who can liaise between the Council and the Parents (club) members about upcoming events and activities at the school. Parents or Guardians are able to self-nominate or be nominated by another parent. Nomination forms are available at the office. Nominations close on Tuesday February 28 at 4pm. A ballot will be held following this if required. If you would like to know more about being on School Council, please contact the school and/or see attached information sheet.

Attendance – ‘Everyday Counts’ Daily school attendance is important for all children and young people to succeed in education and to ensure they don’t fall behind both socially and developmentally. It is important that children develop habits of regular attendance at an early age. Some reminders about attendance:

- If your child is absent, parents must notify the school on the day and send an absence note on their return to school.

- Children must be at school on time, ready to start learning. Children at school after 9am will be marked late.

- If your child is late to school (after 9am) they must be signed in at the office in the

late/early departures book and take a late pass to their teacher.

- If your child must leave school before 3:20, they must be signed out at the office in the early departures /late book.

- All appointments for children are highly recommended to be outside of school hours or in the holidays – eg: dentist and doctor.

- If you are planning a family holiday, you MUST let the school know in advance so that an Attendance Leaning Plan can be provided for the child.

- Unless your child/ren is unwell, they should be at school.

Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund is available to eligible families again this year. If you are eligible please see Shelly for an application form by February 28.

District Swimming Sports Congratulations to the 25 students who participated at the District Swimming event in Euroa today. Thanks to Ms Bravo and Ms Vuat for taking them, along with the many parents & family members who attended. Students represented themselves and the school with pride. Well done, everyone!

Parent/Teacher Interviews We are holding Parent/Teacher Interviews next week. Notices for this have gone home today. Please complete your preferred times and return them to school by Friday. Interview times will be coming home on Monday.

Royal Flying Doctors Flight & Medical Simulator Our students in Grades 3 – 6 will enjoy a visit from the Royal Flying Doctors Flight and Medical Simulator this Friday. Each class will spend an hour hearing about the history and operations of

the RFDS and its relevance today along with being able to board the simulator. The simulator and car is 15m long!

She continued to wear them all week without a fuss, as she waits patiently for a new pair. Gr 1-2C – Alex Ablitt – For maximum participation and enjoyment at the MPS swimming sports day. You showed the keys to success! Gr 3-4VB – Hannan Hashim – Hannan used her confidence key during the swimming program. She tried her hardest and made great improvements. Well done Hannan! Mathematics provides students with access to important mathematical ideas, knowledge and skills

that they will draw on in their personal and work lives.

The Mathematics curriculum aims to ensure that students:

develop useful mathematical and numeracy skills for everyday life, work and as active and

critical citizens in a technological world

see connections and apply mathematical concepts, skills and processes to pose and solve

problems in mathematics and in other disciplines and contexts
