Safer Internet Day NZ 2020 #SID2020

Safer Internet Day, celebrated globally every February (11

February), is a day dedicated to promoting a safer online world.

Online safety is more important than ever.

The internet’s pretty enticing these days – it’s remarkable how much of our lives we live online and

how many priceless life hacks the internet offers.

Netsafe is the official organising committee in New Zealand and they are encouraging all New

Zealanders to join the kōrero in their communities and networks about what a safer internet could

look like. We encourage you to visit https://www.netsafe.org.nz/safer-internet-day/ to access

these resources. They follow on well with our new Student User Agreements that we sent home on

Monday. We have revised these using the Netsafe resources and our school values. We have two

different agreements Years1-4 and Years 5-8. Please could you send these back to your child’s

teacher.

Fundraising for 2020

Today we are sending home a bright blue piece of paper asking you to help us in some way with

fundraising. We really appreciate your help and if you have any other ideas, we welcome them.

Emergency Contact Details

It is important that this information is kept up to date. Please complete and return this light blue

form to the classroom teachers. If your details change during the year, please get in contact with

the school office so we can update our system.

School Directory

This is also coming home today in paper form, as we need to know if you consent to be in our

phone directory. Please could you also return these to your child’s teacher.

Building Update

Today is the day! You may have noticed the Kiwi Village is partly standing. Demolition has started

and will happen over a period of 2 weeks. We have been advised there will be noise and truck

movements (outside of, immediately before and after school times) during this period. During this

time, we ask the children to stay off the west stairwell exiting the library and along the West side of

the back of the Takahe block. This is a significant milestone in our rebuild and we are looking

forward to seeing the new classroom block take shape. The children have named the digger

“Diggersaurus Rex”. Below are before and after shots of the days’ demolition.

Community Notices

Volunteer Builders wanted to build 10 small bicycle skills features on Vogelmorn field The Vogelmorn Bike Track is increasingly popular and now this community facility (developed by a keen group of Brooklyn School and Ridgway School parents) is ready for the next step - Kids Skills Features. Volunteer builders (or handypeople) are needed now to help build the 10 small wooden bicycle skills obstacles This is the next phase of the bikes in schools’ project and community cycling facility. This involves building 10 small wooden bicycle obstacles, e.g. see-saw, ramps, bridge etc.., to plans under the guidance of a experienced volunteer (and parent) Mike. Mike builds tracks and features professionally and has donated his time for the entire project! By volunteering your skills for a short period of time to build skills features, you can ensure the children get a better facility in a quicker timeframe that will improve their cycle skills and make the facility more fun! We are hoping to have 4 ‘builders’ on hand for each build session over about 4 weekends. If you can help for a few hours, a day or several days that’d be very much appreciated. Please contact Sam Bridgman - [email protected]; 027 807 7501 (Parent of Arlo, Otis and Louis)
