The pace at school is definitely not slowing as we head toward the end of successful year at Westlawn Public.
Yesterday the first of two teams of teachers travelled to Casino Public School to see first hand an outstanding
example of the Positive Behaviour for Learning system, which we are excited to say, will be implemented at
WPS in 2020. On Wednesday, the second team will make the trip north on the Summerland Way.
We will celebrate publicly, the efforts of our exceptional students at today’s Presentation Day Assembly.
Tonight is the Primary Disco and tomorrow night, the final P&C and Canteen meeting for 2019.
On Wednesday and Thursday, teachers from WPS and other schools in the Clarence, will train in how to
deliver the globally acclaimed “Rock and Water” program – also to be implemented at WPS in 2020.
On Thursday morning, the AFL will run a clinic for students and, during Break 1, Gold and Platinum
Certificate Awardees will enjoy a special morning tea with Mrs Palmer in the Library. The week ends with a
Talent Quest during the day and our wonderful Carols Night that evening.
My thanks to all those involved in ensuring so many exciting activities can be offered to our students, staff
and families. We hope you can join us at some of them!
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Westlawn community for making me so welcome as the new
principal and also, to wish you all a safe and joyous Christmas filled with lots of fun family times.
Cheery Cheers, Sandra

REPORTS
Semester 2 student reports will be going home soon. Teachers have spent many hours assessing students
and compiling detailed reports. Thank you for taking time to discuss these with your children, celebrating
the successes and setting goals for areas where improvement is needed.
The reports give parents a clear picture of their child’s achievements. They provide an understanding of how
a child is progressing and how the school and the family can support the child’s future learning.
A reminder follows regarding the A-E grading process: “C” means that your child is ‘on track’ in relation to
what he or she is expected to learn. Other grades will indicate whether your child is doing better than
expected or needs more help.
WELCOME MRS SCOTT
Next year we will welcome our new Assistant Principal, Mrs Alice Scott to our leadership team. Mrs Scott was successful at merit selection to be appointed to Westlawn Public and both she, and the panel who chose her, are thrilled! Mrs Scott comes to our school with a wealth of experience, expert skills and a passion for teaching. We look forward to working with her in the very near future.
GREEN STUDENT PORTFOLIOS
Please return your child’s green portfolio to their teacher before next Friday.

Library News
What an amazing end of year in the library. We were surprised by wrapped presents of books, Pig the Elf, an elf door, Christmas tree and fire place last week. Books have been shared and returns are steadily come back in. Please continue to do so as we seek which class will win the prize for all books returned!
Our Checker's Competition was contested with loads of enthusiasm. Congratulations to our Stage two winner Henry Wright and Stage three and overall School champion Jarvis McPhee. Their trophies will
presented later this week at morning assembly.
Our NSW Premiers Reading Challenge award winners have received their awards and those students who received a Gold or Platinum award are invited to a special morning tea at First break on Thursday in
the library with Mrs Palmer. This is to celebrate their dedication to reading and completing the challenge for four or seven years.
Don't forget the Clarence Regional Library over the Summer holidays. They are running a Summer Reading Club called Beach to Bush: Explore, Discover and Identify program. This is a free program with
your library membership. If you’re not already a member it is free. Students can pick up application forms from our library to fill out with Guardians and then return to the Clarence Valley libraries.
Have a wonderful break and many happy reading moments!
Mrs Palmer
