School Photos- tomorrow
Just a reminder that tomorrow all the classes will have their
class photos taken. Please ensure students are in full school
uniform. Photo envelopes were sent home however if you
need another please let the office know. Sibling photos enve-
lopes can also be collected from the office. Please note that
the whole school photo will be taken in term two and on that
day back up sibling photos can be taken.
School Council Elections
On Wednesday the 8th March at 4pm the School Council Ballot
closed and ballot papers were counted. The results are
outlined below.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents that
nominated to be involved in our School Council. MPPS is
fortunate to always have parents that actively participate in
their child/ren’s learning community. I am continually amazed
by participation rates in all parent bodies across the school
particularly as we continue to embed the vision of MPPS as a
world class, inclusive and collaborative learning community.
The following parents were elected to the two parent
representative positions (in alphabetical order):
Two-year parent representative vacancies-
Jason Blakely
Mike Holtz
Although unsuccessful, I would like to thank Michael Pulis for his
nomination for School Council.
As noted in previous additions of the newsletter, there was one
nomination for the DET (staff) representative for one vacancy.
As a result, Nicole Macrae has been elected unopposed to our
school council.
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) or School Council will be
held on Wednesday 29th March.

Cross Country – Date change!
The date of the Cross Country has been changed as a result of the Moonee Ponds Creek walkway
being closed (from March 20th) due to the Tullamarine Freeway widening project. The event will
now be held in early term two and not on Wednesday 29th March. The final date will be confirmed
in the next newsletter after we have secured the use of the Moonee Valley Cricket Club oval from
the council.
Italian Day
Our 2017 Italian Day is scheduled for the last week of term. Like last year all students will work in
multi age groupings across four different activities including pasta sauce making. Nancy has again
included information in this newsletter for families.
District Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to the 28 students from Years 3-6 that won through to the district swimming
carnival that was held on Monday 6th March. Thanks to Jodie for organising the team, and Senada
& David for supervising and helping out while at Queens Park pool. Unfortunately, we didn’t have
any students progress to the next stage but everyone competed well and represented the school
with great enthusiasm.
Planning Week
Next week is planning week for the staff. This is an opportunity for staff to review the yearly over-
views, the curriculum from the current term, student assessment feedback and develop planners
to support the needs of students for the coming term. To facilitate this process, the timetable is
modified to allow teams extended time together. As a result, the specialist times will be changed
for this week (see below):
Live for Lily Fundraiser- last Friday
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all the very gen-
erous students and families that supported this fundraiser. I am sup-
porting a new look hair cut which the students witnessed the public
shaving in the breezeway at lunch on Friday. We smashed our school
goal of $1000 and raised $1360 on the day. This doesn’t include the
numerous families that directly donated to the Live for Lily fundraising
page. As stated as one of the riders we are all aiming to raise $5000
each ($100,000 in total). I have reached the riders goal of $5000 al-
ready which is amazing. If you would still like to donate please go to:
http://liveforlily.org.au/product/matt-bott/ . Thanks again!

Moonee Ponds Primary School will be holding its annual Cross Country early Term 2 along
the Moonee Ponds bike track. This is a whole school event with students in grades Prep-2
running 1km, 8 (Year 3/4’s)/9 and 10 year olds running a distance of 2kms and 11 and 12/13

We are looking for parents who will be able to volunteer their time as course marshallers,
place judges and to count up scores.
The event runs from 9:30 – 11am and scoring will take place from 11am onwards. If you are
available to volunteer your time for any of those roles please add your name and contact
number/email address to the sign-up sheet located outside the school office.
Thank you Jodie Donovan

Carnival. You should all be very proud of your achievements and for representing our school
with pride. Well done!
Tennis Trials
Well done to Thomas Bubic and Aaliyah Maylik for attending the tennis trials at Penleigh
Grammar last week.
Ride 2 School Day
This year the ride to school day will be held this Friday March the 17th. It
would be great to see as many people being active before school by riding,
walking or maybe scootering.

The PE Blog is available to view on the school website. Keep up to date with what’s
happening during our exciting Physical Education lessons throughout the year.

ITALIAN DAY 2017
Our annual event of Italian Day will be held in first term this year. Thursday March 30th is
our day of fun filled activities designed to take in many aspects of the Italian culture. The
aim of the day is to continue to develop an awareness and appreciation of the customs
and influences introduced to our community by Italians and to continue to immerse the
children in the Italian language.
All students are encouraged to dress up in order to get into the Italian spirit of things and
make the day more colourful and exciting. The students can dress in an appropriate cos-
tume for the day or simply wear the Italian colours of green, white and red. I have listed
some costume suggestions below but feel free to come up with your own too.

Dear Families
The flyer from Dromkeen has been included in our newsletter because we have many students
who are avid readers and would benefit greatly from a visit to this wonderful place. Dromkeen
has for many years celebrated and supported children's literature and brought many
authors, illustrators, students and educators together to learn from one another and enjoy reading and writing. There are usually exhibitions of children's book illustration art works and a
beautiful garden with sculptures related to books.
