NEWSLETTER “Learning Today For a Better Tomorrow”

Dear Parents,

Our Grade 6 students had a very successful camp in Canberra. It was a pleasure to spend five days with a

great bunch of kids and teachers. I would like to thank Ms McCarter, Ms Marriott, Mr Lenart, Mr Rayner,

Ms Conn, Mrs Ryan and Ms Fernandez for all of their hard work and care showed towards our students.

Staffing News

Our wonderful Assistant Principal Mr Colagrande has been appointed Principal at Coburg West PS. The

school is very lucky to have an educator of the calibre of Mr Colagrande to lead them into the future. Mr

Colagrande has worked at our school for 18 years and will be sorely missed.

Parking

Our school council president, Mr Huntington, is working very hard with Brimbank Council to come up

with some better parking solutions for the parents of our school. Can I please ask everyone to show care and thoughtfulness when dropping off and picking up our students? I also believe there will be more Coun-

cil officers in the area.

Building

Our new classrooms are progressing well and should be ready by the end of term.

I have not decided as of yet which classes will be placed in these rooms.

Regards Chris

Thank you to everyone who participated in ‘Wear a Hat to School’ day.

As well as this activity, we had all classes participating in the story time where the book I GOT THIS HAT was celebrated.

Wonderful literacy and art rich activities followed. It was a fun filled day with many great hats to be seen.

Listening to stories about where children got their hats was very entertaining.

Please visit our library to see our great photo gallery and samples of work completed by classes.

Also a big thank you to all the children and their families for their donations – a portion of this money will be donated to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and the remainder of the money will be used to purchase literacy resources for our school.

PACER CANBERRA CAMP FUNDING

Students from our school have recently undertaken an educational tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the na-tional capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

The student's had a wonderful time and learnt many new facts about democracy and our nation's capital.

I Got this Hat by: Emilia Markovic 4DN

My hat is special to me because…

I wore it on New Year’s Day.

I got this hat in Sydney before the fireworks.

My hat is sparkly and on the front it says happy New Year.

The texture of my hat is bumpy and cold.

A memory that I have with this hat is wearing it while the fireworks were going off

I Got this Hat by: Jaliyah Franco 4DN

My hat is special to me because…

I got it from my soccer club and my dad bought it for me. My hat is the colour dark blue and the tex-

ture is very soft and also is very warm.

My hat is very special to me because when I go to soccer training I always wear it with my 2 best

friends in the world and when we wear it we look like triplets
