ETboxMB is a new and very innovative portable Eddy Current (EC) instrument developed by Tecnatom, which comes to make easier and faster its application on-site, mainly during MRO inspection activities.

From the technical point of view, its main advantage is that it is a very light and fully portable multi-channel and multi-frequency equipment, with a friendly touch-screen operation interface, that overpass the current EC instruments used up to know, but providing all the features expected from other heavier and un-comfortable equipments.

It has been generated taking into account the maintenance technicians suggestions, increasing the ergonomics for operation, but keeping a wide range of functionalities.

The software runs on a tablet device, under Windows 10 via USB or Wi-Fi connection, and inspector receives real-time views as he/she makes the control of the component. The systems is designed with a battery that allows to carry it comfortably in his/her pocket, belt or placed in any location for manual inspection.

ETboxMB HMI is intuitive and easy to use. The display is performed in real time with an immediate start with a high level of productivity during inspection. Several languages are available for user interface, and for reporting.

Report generation starts with a single click, that open a pop-up menu to select a full menu of settings, signals and pictures. After the report is generated is possible to open, modify, add new things to the document.

Four working modes can be selected:

• Conductivity and thickness measurement, performed separately or simultaneously (C/T)

• Conventional Eddy Current (CEC).

• Rotary scanning. This operation mode is easily configured and allow adjustment filters according to the scanner’s speed programmed.

• Eddy current array (ECA) allows fast acquisitions with significant time savings. C-scan and 3D views in real-time.

On Rotary inspection Mode, for instance for Bolt Hole Inspection, filters have been designed to accomplished the bolt hole inspection needs of moving a rotating probe, that eliminate typical noise generated by the oscillation of the probe, as other equipments have. Finally, ECA (array) probes allow the inspection of big surfaces in a small time compare to other eddy current techniques.

For ETboxMB the setup process is as simple as connect the probe, calibrate, acquire. Auto-identification feature allows the auto-setting of the system once the information on the probe is read. All these features developed, together with the

ergonomic design and lightweight makes ETboxMB the most appropriate and easy using equipment for the hard inspection activities during MRO.

NEWSLETTER JUNE 2017 Nº 13

In recent  months,  Tecnatom has kept a high activity at its headquarters because of different systems in final production stage, previous to the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) that, in our case, always suppose a very important milestone in the supply. We had the presence of our customers’ staff during the FAT, which shared with our technicians some days of work in which protocols of tests previously agreed have been carried out.

Belgian and Romanian staff from the aerospace company SONACA supervised the FAT of a robotic system for the

new plant that the firm has opened in Transylvania.  This is a twin system in addition to another with a single robot on a linear track provided by Tecnatom that was already in production at the central factory of this client in Belgium.

Given the good results of the FAT, the system has been dismantled, packed and sent to Romania for final implementation. A new system has taken its place.

Almost in parallel with the FAT for SONACA, another system has successfully passed its Factory Acceptance Test: a Taurus

Twin that has been sent to the company STRATA for its final installation and on-site tests.

Although our plant is registering a high activity in the coming months, where we will have in assembly and tests of up to 6 new Taurus, we will continue hard working on the success of our future systems for their acceptance by the customers, like those who have left our facilities. Now it’s time to thanks Tecnatom’s team for contribute to our success because of its excellent work, they are our most valuable asset.

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) has awarded Tecnatom a new ultrasonic inspection system, based on dual robot configuration, known as Taurus Twin.

This system joins others already delivered by Tecnatom to this customer, which it has been collaborating with for years, keeping a great relationship with the company.  In fact, the first supply of Tecnatom to the Turkish company was a gantry type inspection system -called SIAT-, especially designed for the control of flat or curved parts by means of transmission techniques (TTU) and pulse-echo (PE).

The excellent result of SIAT allowed our

customer to request the updating and improvement of two systems from other suppliers that TAI already had in its plants, called TUSS1 and TUSS2.  They were updated through the incorporation of more advanced electronics and software, by Tecnatom, in addition to improve mechanical and operational aspects. Following these upgrades, the systems were able to meet the strict quality requirements that Airbus demands from its suppliers.

Now TAI gives a step further in our long-term relationship thanks to its confidence in our most advanced technology, and requests a new dual-robot system which provides high flexibility and

ability to perform, with TTU or Pulse-Echo techniques, and high-productivity Phased Array technology, more complex geometries of pieces.

We hope in the future to keep on working with TAI, a company that has assumed a leading role because of its high quality and good work as an Airbus Tier 1.

Tecnatom supplies a new robot-based inspection system

Strata system during its FAT period (repeatability testing) in Tecnatom facilities.

Sonaca and Tecnatom team, after successful fulfilling of FAT Strata system during its FAT period (repeatability testing) in Tecnatom facilities.

One double robot system (TAURUS TWIN),

similar to the one recently awarded to Tecnatom.

After successfully fulfilling the Factory Acceptance Test in February 2017, a Tecnatom system has entered into production in Songwol factory in Sacheon (South Korea).

Tecnatom has developed the new inspection system based on a Taurus Twin concept, for automated UT inspection, comprising two robots mounted on linear rails, allowing the application of pulse-echo and through transmission techniques by using phased array technology in both cases. This is the second time this novelty is applied, following the results obtained in a previous Malaysian customer factory.

Also conventional UT can be applied for the detection and characterization of potential flaws in aircraft parts. The versatility of this robot-based configuration will make it possible to scan complex geometries with high levels of productivity.

Two robots can work collaboratively or independently in two separate working areas, depending on the structure of the components.

South Korea is a good example of synergy between the Tecnatom Group companies, as a big part of the training of customer

and implementation works have been provided by Tecnatom’s subsidiary in China. Our team in that Asian country will be in charge of the warranty and post-delivery services, and for any new need or consultancy required by customer.

For Songwol is very important, as customer, to receive the first support from our subsidiary in China, allowing a faster

response and monitoring if necessary. Tecnatom’s staff in China was previously selected and trained in Tecnatom HQ (Spain), and currently is capable of providing the highest level of service, as the one that could be given from the parent company.

Other activities on aerospace are permanently supported by our subsidiary in China, as the representation of Tecnatom Group in front of main Chinese players, as the OEM COMAC and AVIC.

We are very proud and plenty confidence in our people in China.
