CKJS Golden Jubilee This week we celebrated our school’s Golden Jubilee marking 50 years since the Junior School was officially

opened on this site on 5th February 1969.

We had a special visitor in assembly. James Moore, a former pupil of

CKJS and star of Emmerdale, spoke to the children and showed them the

trophy he won in the British Television Awards.

Mrs Selwood showed a slide-show of pictures from the last 50 years and shared some of her memories since

the Silver Jubilee, when a time capsule was buried at the front of the school. We did try to find the time

capsule (a metal box containing pictures and memories of the school in 1993-4), but unfortunately couldn’t

locate it. Many thanks to Mr Fincham (Logan’s dad) for coming with his metal detectors and helping us to

look for it. We hope to bury a new capsule when the weather improves, with memories from 2019, and bury

it when we install the ground mosaic the children made earlier this term.

After school, lots of children, friends, current and former staff came along to our tea party in the hall. It was a

lovely event, full of nostalgia and a chance for some to be re-united with their former teachers. It is amazing

how many parents were pupils at the school when they were of primary age, a testament to the continued

success and wonderful ethos of CKJS.

We would like to thank everyone who donated such wonderful cakes and who came along to support this

special event.

LINES

We are delighted to inform you that our

new zig zag parking restrictions are in

place in Glynrosa Road.

We would ask all parents to make sure

that they do not park or even drop off

children in this area. This ensures the

exit is clear for children to safely enter

and leave the school grounds.

Current Vacancies

We are looking for a new clearer and

lunchtime supervisors to join our great

teams.

The posts are both part time and are for

approximately 5 hours per week term

time only.

If you or anyone you know would be

interested, please contact the School

Business Manager on 01242 526171

option 2 or simply pop in to Reception.

ParentPay - our new online payment service

We are pleased to announce that we will shortly

be accepting payments online for School Dinners

using a secure website called ParentPay with

which some of you will be familiar.

A letter with full details accompanies this

newsletter and the system will go “live” after

half term. ParentPay will be our method of

making payments for school dinners.

Next week we will be sending you your account

activation details. Follow the instructions in the

letter to get started with ParentPay.

If you want to find out more go to:

https://www.parentpay.com/parents/

or visit our school’s website.

Together with we have recently launched a new clothes recycling scheme which will hopefully raise some money towards our

current projects.

We would like to invite you all to get involved in recycling and school fundraising. Simply gather unwanted clothing, paired shoes, handbags and belts and bring them in to school!

Be green and reuse bags from home when packing your textiles for recycling! The collection box is in the car park adjacent to the main gate.

Cycling Skills Club

CKJS have two teams entered in the Bank View Winter Series Cycle Race. Team A: George, James, Harry and

Joshua and Team B: Henry, Noah, Toby and Michael both performed very well in the first round.

There were two heats and a final and Harry came second and Joshua third. This leaves CKJS running second

in the leader board with 10 points.

Fliers

From time to time we send home fliers either with the children or via email. These fliers are

advertisements for activities or events which we feel may be of interest to you or your children and please

feel free to ignore them!

Our usual practice when approached to distribute these is to ask the organisers for one or two free places

as a “thank you”. These places can then be offered to children who may not otherwise have opportunities

to participate in such activities.

Fun in the snow!

We were very pleased that we were able to remain open on Friday in spite of the snow

and only a handful of children were unable to get in to school. We felt it best to cancel

the after-school clubs in case the weather deteriorated.

All the children had an extended morning break and we all took to the playing fields to

make giant snowmen and enjoy the snow!

Watch out for the next issue!

Passport

Forms

Recently we have had quite a number of

passport forms brought in for signing by staff.

Whilst we are able to do these we would like to

invite parents to make a small contribution to

our Swimming Pool Fund as a token of gratitude.
