Plans come to fruition.

Roofing RestorationThe Bradley Home was built in the 1930’s to provide a safe, secure and homelike environment to elderly men and women of modest means who could trace their lives back to the city of Meriden. This beautiful façade has stood the test of time, but after almost eighty years of sheltering Bradley Home residents, it was time to consider some large scale restoration to the slate roof’s and internal gutters.

The members of the Building and Grounds Committee of the Bradley Home spent many hours meeting and consulting with architects and tradesmen to try to determine the best approach to repairing the roof’s, and restoring the gutters.

The committee’s recommendation to the Bradley Home Board of Directors was to contract with Martin A. Benassi, AIA. He along with his team walked the roofs and determined what had to be done to restore integrity without damaging their historical beauty.

Once a plan had been drawn it was time to look for a company to carry out the work. After a bidding process that contractor was New England Masonry.

New England Masonry & Roofing Company is one of the few remaining companies still repairing and installing slate and tile roofs and fabricating architecturally designed copper and sheet metal. They are renowned throughout the area for their expertise in the restoration of churches and historical buildings.

The team at New England Masonry is made up of approximately eighty of the finest craftsmen in the industry. With three generations of experience, they are dedicated to the pursuit of excellence and fulfilling the needs of their customers.

New Generator Insures Lights will shine.“We are there when the lights go out. Through the wind, rain and snow. We are Northeast Generator. The Power People.”

Since 1964, Northeast Generator Co. has been the leader in backup power systems, generator sales and installation, as well as service and repairs to homes and businesses throughout Connecticut and the New York City area. So when the Building and Grounds Committee of the Bradley Home knew it was time to replace the circa 1940’s CAT diesel, they looked to purchase a new Generac generator.

Molly Savard and Anne Dembsk review fabric swatches.

The new generator and re-engineering of existing systems means that the air conditioning will stay on in the Residential Care Home when the power goes out. It also means that there is enough power to keep the elevators running when the lights go out at the Bradley Home. These seem like small luxuries – but they are welcome comforts. Thank you to the Building and Grounds Committee for keeping our comfort and safety always in mind.

Fabrics and FinishesOnce the paint has dried and the floors have been sanded to a glossy perfection, the paper has been hung and the trim is gleaming there is one more task to be accomplished. Perhaps the most enjoyable task, but also the one requiring discipline, concentration, and just the right eye for design. It’s time to select the fabric and finishes for the furnishing and window treatments.

Of all the members on our Bradley Home team, Molly Savard, the Executive Director, is the one with the eye for design and the deep passion for the Bradley home. It only seems right that she should take on the task of choosing from the suggestions made by CCI, Carangelo Commercial Interiors, LLC. Molly Savard has

And now…Thank you for reading our newsletters and learning more about the Bradley Home. We have been a quite part of the fabric of Meriden for almost 80 years. At times, referred to as “the best kept secret in Meriden.”

If you like what you have seen and want to learn more about this community of elderly men and women please consider coming in for a tour.

spent the last few months pouring over fabrics, finishes and window treatments to select the ones that are right for the Bradley Home.

Design is a very personal taste, and should not be decided by a committee as there will never be a consensus. Never. Ever. Molly has chosen window treatments, chairs, fabric for sofas, etc.

Soon they will be making their way from the upholstery shop to the Bradley home.

We cannot wait to see how beautiful we will become with new furnishings. Thank you Molly Savard for your hours of study to find what is best for Bradley Home.

Planning our future.Future plans for acquisition and expansion are in the works. The Bradley Home with the help of Michael Pulling conducted a series of focus groups in November of 2013.

Individuals from the greater Meriden area were invited to come in and discuss what other types of living arrangements were needed for those in the early stages of retirement. From those meetings it was determined that there was a need for moderated priced senior housing in Meriden and at this time the Bradley Home planning committee is looking at potential sites for construction new housing.
