2018 Results
2018 saw some fantastic results in all of the Trust schools.
Key Stage 2
The overall percentage of pupils in our schools that achieved the combined expected standard rose from
72% in 2017 to 78%. This is a superb achievement and is the result of a lot of hard work from staff and pupils.
Thank you for the support from all of our schools and The Humber Teaching School for the significant impact on the
percentage of pupils achieving the combined expected standard in the three schools joining our Trust from the Link
Education Trust. This figure rose from 35% to 43%.
Key Stage 4
GCSE exams have seen major changes over the last two years with more rigorous exams and grades moving away from
the traditional A*-G grades to a new 9 to 1 grading system. Despite these changes, the Year 11 results were superb.
WELL DONE to all staff and pupils.
Welcome to Healing Multi-Academy Trust’s first newsletter.
There are a plethora of fantastic events, opportunities and successes to celebrate in all the schools in our Trust every
week. The purpose of this newsletter is to share a very small portion of those events and successes.
A warm welcome to our new Senior Leaders
As the newly appointed full time CEO, I would like to wish a warm welcome to Leaders in new roles this term:
Anna Coney Executive Headteacher across the three new Academies
Becky Wakefield Headteacher at Healing Primary School
Andrea Norman Headteacher at Great Coates Primary School
Lynn Deans Deputy Headteacher at Great Coates Primary School
Michelle Dewland Appointed as the substantive Principal of Healing School
Healing Multi-Academy Trust Update
Every year each Multi-Academy Trust has a review meeting with the Regional School Commissioner (RSC). Our review
took place in Sheffield on the 5th October. The RSC was very impressed with the progress and outcomes achieved in
every one of our schools and also commented on the positive impact we have already had on the three schools joining
our Trust in November (Hartsholme Academy, St Giles Academy and Woodlands Academy).
In order to ensure the Trust continues to operate with our current high standards, we are currently seeking new
Trustees with three specific skill sets to compliment the existing MAT Board. The skills required are ‘Business and
Commerce Management’, ‘ Educational Expertise’ and ‘Real Estate and Property Management’.

Over the past few years at William Barcroft, we have really tried to push our sports and PE provision in order to make it the best it can possibly be for our children. In recognition of this, this year, we are incredibly proud to have been awarded a School Games Mark Sil-ver Award for our efforts - building on our previous Bronze Award. This is a nationally-recognised award backed by organisations such as the British Olympic Team and the Youth Sport Trust, which awards schools for showing a commitment to sport. In order to receive our award, we had to meet a number of criteria. To achieve this, we offered a range of inter-school competitions, intra-school competitions and sports clubs to our children. Additionally, we took part in gifted and talented PE workshops, ensured that our least active children were given opportunities to participate in sport and giving our students the chance to manage, officiate and lead in sports-related activities such as our sports day.
This year, we're going for gold!

Maths
After year on year improvements in maths at William Barcroft, we have managed to secure more fantastic SATs results within the subject. Consistent, outstanding progress was also achieved in every class, in every year group, with an average of +3.51 for progress made across the whole school. This has been a target for a number of years and has been achieved due to the persistent hard work from all of the staff at William Barcroft. The percentage of pupils, who of which passed at the expected standard in Year 6, was 84.3%. This is 11.9% higher than the av-erage for good schools, 8.8% higher than the average for outstanding schools and 8.8% higher than the national average. We are particularly proud of this due to our high deprivation and pupil premium numbers. In addition to this, we also obtained our highest percentage for children achieving the higher standard since the implementation of the new curriculum. A fantastic 30.1% of our pu-pils achieved the higher standard in maths this year. This is 9.0% more than the average for good schools, 2.1% more than the aver-age for outstanding schools and 6.5% higher than the national average.

Our summer production of ‘We have a dream’
was thoroughly enjoyed by all. It was wonderful to see the children so incredibly driven and
motivated to succeed. All of the children grew in confidence and had a fabulous time. It was
amazing to see them shine on stage and see how much they impressed the rest of the school and
their parents: such a good feeling for them. We are well underway with preparations for our next production in December: the children are
working hard in their own time on dances, routines and songs. We can’t wait to see the
children on stage again.

Mrs Woods’
Leaving Day
After 6 years’ service at Healing Primary
School, Mrs Wood retired In July 2018.
The pupils, staff and governors at HPS
recognised her dedication to the school,
and in thanks for her excellent service
named the new outdoor learning area
‘The Wood Barn’. Mrs Wood’s retirement
was celebrated via a staff pantomime,
performed for the pupils and governors.
Tag Rugby
On 27th September, Healing Primary School
entered an inter-school tag rugby competi-
tion, hosted at Havelock Academy. Both of
our teams worked tirelessly throughout the
competition, and were commended by other
schools for their sportsmanship. One team
made it through to the quarter finals, and our
other team made it to the finals. After a very
close match, we were pronounced the inter-
school cup winners. As the match was so
close, our winning team very kindly gave their
medals to the runners up. We couldn’t be
more proud of them.

Pupils’ aspirations were recently raised when
three students and an admissions tutor from
Oxford University visited Healing School. Pupils
in Years 9, 10 and 11 were given a Roadshow
presentation by Gemma O’Sullivan, Alice Knapton
and Tim Mallinson.
Oxbridge Schools’ Liaison Officer Katie Osmon
said the aim of the roadshow was to inform
pupils of the benefits of a university education
and, in particular, Oxford and Cambridge. “We
want to raise their aspirations about future
opportunities available and give them confidence
to apply to the top universities” she said.
Gemma, Alice and Tim, all from northern
Lincolnshire, worked with the pupils in small
groups. They explained about student life and
highlighted the opportunities available.
Acting Principal Mrs Michelle Dewland thanked
the Oxbridge team for visiting Healing.
“It’s about encouraging all of our pupils to make
the most of their talents,” she said. “For quite a
number, this will mean attending top universities
in the future.
The roadshow, hopefully, planted seeds that top
universities including Oxford and Cambridge are
not an exclusive club and could be for our pupils.

The new academic year has already been filled with
sporting success for Healing School.
Four Year 9 girls won the Lincolnshire Tennis
Tournament in Lincoln. Their success now takes
them to Loughborough University, where they will
represent Lincolnshire in the next round.
This month, our Year 11 boys football team came
from behind to win a fantastic match at
Wintringham Academy. From trailing 2-0, Healing
pulled out all the stops to secure a well deserved
3-2 win.
September saw pupils from all year groups
competing in the Yorkshire County Swimming
Championships in Leeds. The Year 8 boys won gold,
silver and bronze medals for breaststroke and the
individual medley. Four Year 7 pupils also swam
well to set personal bests.
Pupils from Years 8, 10 and 11 were selected to

Quality in Careers Standard
Award
In July, Healing Academy gratefully received the coveted ‘Quality in Careers Standard’ award for
delivering exceptional guidance, opportunities and information to young people.
The Quality in Careers Standard is a key element of the work conducted by the Humber Local
Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
Working in alliance with 4 local authorities, the aim is to raise aspirations and deliver a spectrum
of opportunities and choices to young people. Funded by the Humber LEP, the Deflog VQ trust
and the European social fund, the project is designed for Schools, Academies and further
Education providers in the Humber locality.
The award criteria are assessed using 8 separate standards, which culminate in delivering the
highest standard careers guidance possible to young people.
Assessors were very impressed by the plethora of opportunities pupils at Healing Academy had
access to in the form of work experience, University visits, hosting speakers from local employers
and colleges and holding post 16 careers events. It was also noted how Healing pupils engaged
with the careers information presented to them and conducted themselves in a
mature manner.
