PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

In line with the Department of Education’s Uniform

Policy we will be including long pants for girls as

part of our school uniform. This will provide girls with

an alternative to the winter dress. The dress will

continue to be part of the uniform but now the girls

will have a choice about what they wear

particularly in the winter months. At this week’s

P&C meeting we will be discussing a change to

the polo shirts for all students. If you are interested

in being part of this discussion please come along

to the meeting on Wednesday 12 September at

7.30pm in the staff room.

In Term 4 Mr Ben Colmer, our new Deputy Principal,

will be starting at Croydon. Ben brings to the

position a wealth of experience across a number

of schools including managing a building project

at his current school. I know he is looking forward

to starting at Croydon and I’m sure the school

community will give him a warm welcome. I would

like to thank Ms Lux Senthil, who took on the

relieving DP role at short notice, for the stellar job

she has done over the last three terms.

Mrs Valerie Antoniadis has been seconded into a

network role as Assistant Principal Learning and

Support over the past few weeks and we have just

learnt that Val has been asked to continue in this

role until the end of the year. This a great

opportunity for Val to extend her knowledge and

skills as well as supporting students across a

number of schools. Ms Maria Karakatsis will be

taking leave from the end of this term before the

birth of her second child. We wish her all the best

and look forward to meeting the new addition to

her family. Mr Mitchell Casey will be working

fulltime on 4K from the beginning of Term 4.

I will be taking leave from the 18 September to

travel to Canada to visit schools in Ontario. Ontario

is now seen as an education “hot spot” so I’m very

interested to learn from my colleagues in Canada.

For the last ten days of the term Ms Senthil will step

into the Relieving Principal position and Mr Colmer

will take on the relieving role for the first four days

of Term 4.

Ms Lucantonio

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING

The Positive Behaviour for Learning focus for this

last week and this week is being a respectful

learner in the toilets and in the ofice. Ask your child

how they will be respectful learners at school this

week.

For more information about Positive Behaviour for

Learning and our award system please see the

school website. On our PBL site you will find a

matrix that you can use at home to reinforce the

school expectations.

http://www.croydonp.schools.nsw.edu.au/ourscho

ol/positivebehaviour-for-learning

KINDERGARTEN 2019 We are currently enrolling students for the 2019

Kindergarten intake. If you live in the local area

and have a child starting school next year, please

visit the office to collect enrolment papers and

enrol your child. If you have a friend or relative with

a child starting school next year, please

encourage them to enrol their child as soon as

possible.

We will be holding our annual Kindergarten

Orientation program from 9.00-11.00am on

Monday 22 October, Monday 29 October and

Monday 5 November.

SPEECH PATHOLOGY PROGRAM

See the end of this newsletter for a handy tip from

our Croydon Public School speech therapist,

Elizabeth Ware. This tip gives you some great ideas

about how to improve your child’s memory, as well

as their descriptive language and their ability to

visualise what the other person is saying in order to

apply it to an item or person, or to win a game.

NOTES Please be aware that some student accounts are

sitting in credit (Fees in Advance). Last week a

letter was sent home via students advising

parents/carers of the amounts in credit. We asked

that for those parents/carers to contact the office

regarding their statements. As yet we have not

heard from anyone so therefore we will be

allocating any credit to outstanding activities (not

including voluntary fees unless advised to do so).

If there are no outstanding fees and you are in

credit please do not pay for any future activities,

however you will need to sign future permission

notes which should then be placed in the fees box

outside the office. The office staff will advise you of

any credit used to reconcile outstanding

payments. If you have any questions regarding

accounts in credit please contact the office staff

as soon as possible.

PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION This term, students from K-6 have had the

opportunity to develop a speech for the Ultimo

Operational Directorate Primary Schools Public

Speaking Competition. Stage finals have been

held and students were judged on the content of

their speeches, their delivery and ability to give an

impromptu speech.

All speakers displayed terrific confidence in their

presentation skills and developed quality content

in their speeches. Congratulations to our winners,

Madelyn Choi (Kindergarten), Luciana Pontello

(Year 1), Luca Hall (Year 2), Sophia Condren

(Stage 2) and Matilda Banfield (Stage 3) and good

luck to the students who will represent our school

at the local final on 13 September at Campsie

Public School.

Please note, the K-2 public speaking certificates

will be handed out in the Week 8 K-2 assembly,

Tuesday 11 September.

TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY We would like to invite you to participate in the Tell

Them From Me Parent Survey to assist us with our

school planning.

The Tell Them From Me Parent Survey is

anonymous, voluntary, and easy-to-use. It is based

on a comprehensive questionnaire covering

parents’ perceptions of their child’s

experiences at home and at school.

Insights into parent and staff communication,

activities and practices at home, and parent

voice on the school’s support of learning and

behaviour all build an accurate and timely picture

that our school can use for practical

improvements.

If you have more than one child at Croydon Public

School, we recommend that you complete the

survey with only one child in mind. However, if you

feel the school experiences of your children differ,

you are welcome to complete one survey for

each child.

To access the Tell Them From Me Parent Survey,

please visit the following link using password b6t2j

https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/b6t2j

This survey window is open from Tuesday 28 August

- Friday 26 October.

CHESS In our very first chess team competition, 3 girls,

Angelina Chen, Mia Yan and Betty Nguyen were

chosen to represent Croydon Public School at the

2018 Girls Chess Team Challenge.

There were 20 different schools from all over

Sydney, with some schools having multiple teams.

The girls knew it would be challenging but

nevertheless faced it with enthusiasm and

perseverence. They met new people who share

the same passion about chess as themselves and

thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Though Croydon

were unsuccessful at proceeding through to the

next round, the 3 girls should be commended for

displaying the school expectations of respect and

resilience.

Great effort Angelina Chen, Mia Yan and Betty

Nguyen!
