Beauty and the Beast

What a week it has been! I’m so proud to be able to write

about how fantastic Beauty and the Beast has been this

week and more importantly, how brilliant the students

have been. The performances this week has really shown

how hard the students have worked over the past 4

months whilst working on Beauty and Beast. The

dedication has been fantastic and it has been lovely to see

the different year groups supporting each other. As always

it has been an absolutely pleasure to work on the

production. Thank you to everyone who has been involved and been a part of creating an

absolutely fantastic show.

Beauty and The Beast

On Wednesday 26th February Lowbrook and Wessex Primary schools attended a matinee performance

of Beauty and the Beast. Below is a letter we received from Larchfield Primary School.

I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for inviting Larchfield School to see your fantastic production of

Beauty and the Beast. It was absolutely fabulous! The costumes, stage, singing and acting was worthy

of a West End production. Wow! Cox Green children have such confidence and clearly enjoyed what

they were doing.

Our children (and adults) were buzzing about their day at Cox Green. I have to say that the squash and

biscuits were so thoughtful and made it even more special for the children. You really thought of

everything! Thank you for a splendid welcome and a top-notch performance. Please pass on our thanks

and congratulations to all those who were involved.

With kind regards,

Lizi Ramsey

Year 6 Teacher

Larchfield Primary and Nursery School

It has been a real privilege to see so many of our students involved in this production. Their dedication

and commitment has resulted in outstanding performances all week. Every person has demonstrated

PRIDE in every aspect!

Well done!

bring the equipment they need for the day to school with

them.

Sports Leaders Enrichment Programme

A massive well done to our Sports Leaders who delivered an outstanding football lesson to the year 4

students from Wessex Primary school. The students from Wessex visited us this week and seemed to

really enjoy their session and can’t wait to be back next week. Congratulations to Max Stone, Abbie

Jones, Laura House, Josh Jones and Jed Thirlby on showing excellent organisation, enthusiasm and team

work which provided the Wessex students with a great PE Lesson.

Year 7 Shakespeare homework

The English Department have been really impressed with all of the Year 7 Shakespeare homework from last term. Especially from Shay Gibbon 7.7 and Alisa Azam 7.5. Well done to everyone!

Year 8 Viewpoints Project

Year 8 have worked really hard on their Viewpoint Projects. Miss Strachan has been overwhelmed with the detail and hard work that has gone into all the projects. Well done Year 8!

Stars of the Week

Year 7 star of the week is:

Oliver Munt for always being kind and helping others out.

Year 8 star of the week is:

Kiera Dixon for demonstrating passion and increased confidence when talking about her participation

in the Beauty & the Beast performance.

Year 10 star of the week is:

Joe Richards for exceptional work in Physics and History.

Year 11 stars of the weeks are:

Hugh Hutcheson, Jayquane Crawford and Alistair McLaughlin for showing great dedication and team

work after year 11 games in recovering a Frisbee that someone else had gotten stuck

Head Lice

Unfortunately we have had an incident of head lice reported within the school.

Thankfully, this is a very rare occurrence in school and as such you may not be aware of our school

protocol regarding attendance and treatment.

If a student is found with Head Lice within the school day, parents/carers

will be contacted and asked to collect the student from school.

Any siblings who attend the school will also need to go home.

Once the child/children have been treated with the relevant lice solution

they are able to return school.

Please note, the entire family will need to be treated.

RAF Northolt

Ethan Sewell 8.4

During the half term holidays Ethan was lucky enough to have a look round

32 Squadron at RAF Northolt. He had an amazing time, even getting to sit in

a real RAF plane. This was all made possible with the help on one of the

trainee teachers Mrs Brassington. She got in contact with the Wing

Commander of the 32 Squadron and arranged the visit. She did this because

she knew Ethan would like to be a pilot.

Student Success

Zoë Flitton 9.2

From 9th to 22nd February Zoë spent 2 long and tough weeks training

and racing.

She trained in Austria first, and took part in a GS (Giant Slalom) race

there where she unfortunately crashed and suffered mild concussion

and snow burns on her face. However once she got to Bormio, Italy,

she bounced back and completed all the races. The English Alpine

Championships attract the strongest competition from all the home

countries and well beyond with many international competitors. In

each race of the U14 girls category there were around 60 competitors.

Zoë was placed 8th in the slalom which was a great achievement in

her first alpine season competition. She drew bib 1 and had to set the

time to beat, and on run 2 was last to race with the worst course

condition.

In the Super-G (Giant Slalom), which took place on the Olympic Stelvio

piste, the run had been injected to make it icy and competitors reached

speeds of around 50mph. Zoë had never trained or raced

Super-G but she completed the courses.

In the GS she skied well and came in the top 30.

Achievement and Behaviour Update

Dear Parents

I would like to share some reminders regarding expectations for achievement and behaviour.

Achievement

Our behaviour policy is underpinned by a behaviour diamond which is shared with all students. (Every

student has access to this in the student planner)

The aim is to acknowledge and reward students as much as possible. This following is a starting point

and staff actively seek opportunities to celebrate the students who are part of our community.

Achievement points are awarded for meeting basic expectations of uniform, punctuality and

equipment; outstanding classwork; outstanding homework; outstanding behaviour; outstanding

contribution to the community

Certificates are awarded for demonstrating PRIDE

Star of the week are awarded in assembly for every year group every week.

There is also a learning walk every lesson led by the Middle Leaders and the Leadership team which aims

to visit every classroom to praise outstanding engagement. PRIDE stickers are also awarded as part of

this process.

Positive behaviour is key to building an environment which promotes learning; where students do not

meet expectations we use a range of actions to try to engage them and when this does not happen then

sanctions may need to be applied.

Strategies to support positive learning behaviour:

Outstanding teaching and learning

Behaviour diamond which promotes praise

Behaviour diamond warnings

Detentions

Reports

Community Service

Where students do not engage with learning, up to three warnings can be given. After this, detentions

are set. Initially this is a detention to be done during break 1. If students fail to attend this detention,

then the detention is reset to after school.

At Cox Green, we will endeavour to give parents 24-hour notice for detentions over 20 minutes. The DFE

empowers school staff have to impose detentions outside school hours and does not require parental

permission. The school will make every reasonable attempt to inform parents by a variety of means

including email, text, insight or telephone call.

However, it is the student’s responsibility to behave appropriately and not the school’s responsibility to

make contact about the detention.

Page 10: Newsletter - Cox Green School · At ox Green, we will endeavour to give parents 24-hour notice for detentions over 20 minutes. The DFE empowers school staff have to impose detentions

10

Achievement and Behaviour Update cont.

Behaviour diamond and detentions:

The first two warnings are issued in the lesson by the staff member

A third warning means that a behaviour incident is then logged as a Level 1 - (this does not mean a

detention is issued).

A further warning will mean this issue is escalated and logged as a Level 2. These are 20min

detentions which should be held on the same day at first break or the following day at first break

within the department(s) and are a result of behaviour displayed in the Level 2 category.

Failure to attend results in the detention being escalated to a Level 3.

Level 3: 45min detentions will be held on the Monday, Tuesday or Friday – the next available day -

if the break time detention is missed, or if the Head of Department feels the detention has not

been completed properly, or the incident is a Level 3 incident. (see following page)

Level 4: 90min detentions will be held on Fridays if a 45min detention has been missed, or if the

teacher running the 45min detention feels it has not been completed properly, or the behaviour is

one of those identified in the Level 4 category.

Students who acquire four detentions in a school week and are unable to sit any further required

detentions will be placed in the Personal Reflection Room for one day the following week.

Reports Behaviour & Praise reports are a way to give feedback about a child’s behaviour and achievements in

school each day. Reports are useful for daily monitoring of work, behaviour, homework or attendance. A

student should not remain on report for more than two weeks.

Community Service School based community service is a way to involve all and make students aware of the implications of their actions. Students may be involved within a department area or supporting the whole school. Tasks such as picking up litter or weeding school grounds; tidying a classroom; helping clear up the dining hall after meal times or removing graffiti are used. These activities are used to enhance their understanding of the behaviours expected within Cox Green School. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via [email protected]

Yours sincerely

Mr Edwards

Deputy Headteacher

Spectators for Sports Fixtures

Unfortunately due to safeguarding, insurance and health safety reasons we will no longer be able to host

any parents, friends or relatives to spectate any fixtures both home and away that the school have. This

applies to all sports and all year groups.

After Sports Fixtures/Training

Students must ensure that if they’re waiting for a parent/carer to pick them up after a training session or

fixture that they wait in school main reception until their parent/carer has arrived. They must not wait

outside, near the road in the dark. Students who walk home must be mindful of their surroundings and

ensure they are visible to cars.

What is coronavirus?

Coronavirus is a type of virus and typical symptoms of

the virus include a fever and cough that may develop into

severe pneumonia, causing shortness of breath and

breathing difficulties.

The government state that the risk in the UK is low to

moderate.

Government advice to schools

Parents should not be overly worried about the possibility of their children contracting the virus, and

they should continue to send their children to school as normal.

If a child is suspected of having contracted the disease their parents should ring 111 for advice. The

parents are responsible for informing the school that their child will be absent to get tested, or because

Welcome back after a very wet Half term. We hope that you all had a good break which probably

seems a distant memory by now.

It is World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. If you are not really into reading why not make an

exception and come along to the library and pick up one to read. Look at our various displays for

inspirations. We have had a lot of new teen books in so our collection is refreshed. Ask a member of

staff for some recommendations.

Remember that if there is a book you would like to read and it is not on the shelves we can order it in

for you from another library providing it is in our catalogue.
