Issue 13 From the Principal’s Pen 29 th October 2014 Dear Parents/Carers ASSEMBLY Miss Happe’s Year 4 class gave the school a lesson on global warming by sharing information they had researched and learnt about in the classroom. Many facts were given and brochures displayed for the audience to get a better understanding of what global warming is and how our actions affect our planet. Further awareness-raising about global warming culminated in the students singing the ‘Global Warming Song – Viva La Vida’ by Cold Play. The song was sung with passion, belief and hope. The year 4 students displayed skills above their age by running the assembly and speaking with clarity and confidence. The new virtue for the fortnight was delivered to the audience with a little drama to help us remember to be responsible at all times. Thank you to room 13 students for sharing your expertise. GRADUATION We are already well into our very busy final term. This is the final term for our Year 6 and 7 students who will be moving to the High School in 2015. Our Graduation ceremony will be held on 4 th December. Due to the large number of students, the Year 6 Graduation dinner will be on Wednesday 3 rd December and Year 7 Graduation Dinner on Thursday 4 th December. Preparations for the Ceremonies and Graduation dinner are well underway thanks to our well organised parents and teacher committee for graduation. STAFFING Welcome to Mrs Liz Ayres and Mrs Lynne Norwood who are additional staff members to our school for this term. Welcome back to Mrs Mather who returned from Long Service Leave on 20 th October. Thank you Mr Weckert for taking on the extra responsibilities in the school so capably. SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT DAY – FRIDAY 17 TH OCTOBER This was a day for school planning in readiness for 2015 with staff reviewing operational plans, setting targets in core subjects using information from NAPLAN results, and summative and formative assessments. VIRTUES PROJECT VIRTUES PROJECT VIRTUES PROJECT VIRTUES PROJECT –––– RESPONSIBILITYRESPONSIBILITYRESPONSIBILITYRESPONSIBILITY The school’s virtue for this fortnight is “RESPONSIBILITY”“RESPONSIBILITY”“RESPONSIBILITY”“RESPONSIBILITY”. It would be appreciated if parents would assist us in

our endeavours by discussing this virtue at home.

WHAT IS WHAT IS WHAT IS WHAT IS RESPONSIBILITY?RESPONSIBILITY?RESPONSIBILITY?RESPONSIBILITY?

Being responsibleresponsibleresponsibleresponsible means that others can depend on you. You are willing to be accountable for your actions. When

things go wrong and you make a mistake, you make amends instead of excuses. When you are responsibleresponsibleresponsibleresponsible, you

keep your agreements. You give your best to any job. ResponsibilityResponsibilityResponsibilityResponsibility is the ability to respond ably. It is a sign of

growing up.

WHY PRACTISWHY PRACTISWHY PRACTISWHY PRACTISE E E E RESPONSIBILITYRESPONSIBILITYRESPONSIBILITYRESPONSIBILITY????

When you take responsibilityresponsibilityresponsibilityresponsibility for your own actions, others can trust you. When people are not responsibleresponsibleresponsibleresponsible, they

break their promises, fail to do what they said they would do and let people down. People who make excuses

instead of amends keep making the same mistakes. When you are responsibleresponsibleresponsibleresponsible, you get things done with excellence.

HOW DO YOU PRACTISHOW DO YOU PRACTISHOW DO YOU PRACTISHOW DO YOU PRACTISE E E E RESPONSIBRESPONSIBRESPONSIBRESPONSIBILITYILITYILITYILITY????

When you agree to do something, like homework, watching a younger child, or a job around the house, you take it

as your responsibility. You don’t agree to do things which are too hard, or that you don’t really have time for.

When you make a mistake, you don’t get defensive. You learn from it and fix it. You are ready and willing to clear

up misunderstandings.

SIGNS OF SUCCESSSIGNS OF SUCCESSSIGNS OF SUCCESSSIGNS OF SUCCESS

You are practising ResponsibilityResponsibilityResponsibilityResponsibility when you:

• take your agreements seriously * respond ably by doing things to the best of your ability

• are willing to do your part * admit mistakes without making excuses

• are willing to make amends * give you best to whatever you do

Early Childhood NewsEarly Childhood NewsEarly Childhood NewsEarly Childhood News Open Night Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser: The Early Childhood P & C would like to thank everyone who supported our sausage sizzle on the School Open Night at the end of last term. We were inundated and ran out – apologies to anyone who missed out on a sausage! We raised over $950 in a few short hours. Thanks also to all the helpers who volunteered their time on the night. A huge thanks must also go to our sponsors who enable these fundraisers to be so successful. This year we had fantastic support from Esperance Bulk Meats, Brumby’s Bakery and Landmark. Your support is much appreciated! Annie’s Fruit Bars: Following a recent fundraiser the Early Childhood P & C have a number of 100% Fruit Bars leftover. They are available in four flavours; Raspberry, Apricot, Strawberry and Boysenberry and are 100% natural, gluten free, no added sugar and no preservatives. We are keen to clear the last of them at a special price of $2 for a twin pack (2 bars of the same flavour). If you would like to order some, please email Emma on [email protected] with the quantity and flavours you would like along with your name and phone number to arrange payment.
