Lockdown, distance learning, and the return to school at Levels 3, 2 and 1 have given this first half of the year a very surreal aspect. Principal’s Post Tenā koutou Parents, Caregivers and Whānau

Today is the end of a very strange term. Lockdown, distance learning, and the return to school at Levels 3, 2 and 1 have given this first half of the year a very surreal aspect. It was, therefore, great to have had some normality in the last few weeks, and especially this week with our Parent / Teacher Conferences. working with us next term to better manage the traffic around school at these peak times.

Unfortunately, the increased traffic has resulted in some very close calls with students and moving vehicles in the last few weeks, especially students running late after the road patrollers have left their post, and at the crossing by Best Start. The holidays are a great time to remain students about road safety and crossing etiquette. During Movin’ March the number of students walking and scooting was significantly increased, but some of those safety rules appear to have been forgotten. Last week the prize draw for Movin’ March passports was made by the Movin’ March team. Congratulations to Nina Owen who had her passport drawn out. Nina won a $400 MyRide voucher to spend on a new bike or scooter.

In Term 2 we postponed our Teacher Only Day that we had attached to Queen’s Birthday weekend as we felt it was too soon after lockdown. To ensure we do the requisite number of schools days we do need to take this Teacher Only Day in Term 3. We have decided to make Friday 7th August a Teacher Only Day. This is the Friday of Week 3 in Term 3. On this day we will be focussing on our assessment practices within our curriculum. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We have worked with Kelly Club to ensure that they are operating on this day.

I hope that you and your whānau enjoy a restful break over the next couple of weeks, and make the most of being able to do the things you weren’t allowed to do during the last holidays. Again, thank you for all your support during lockdown and the return to school. It has certainly been appreciated by myself and the staff.

Here’s looking forward to Term 3.
