KURUNJANG PRIMARY SCHOOL ~ “Learning Together” NEWSLETTER 6 - 2020 Thursday 12 th March, 2020 PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Next Tuesday 17 th March, the three Melton Government Secondary Colleges (Kurunjang, Melton and Staughton Secondary Colleges) are conducting concurrent open nights and tours for the community, commencing at 6.00pm and concluding at 7.00pm. A flyer for details of the open nights and also the details of the neighbourhood schools enrolment policy is attached to this and the last couple of newsletters, posted on our noticeboard and available from the office. All students in Year 6 have received a hard copy of the flyer. Regarding enrolment for next year, this will be the third year in which the 3 Government Secondary Colleges will adhere to their respective designated neighbourhood area for accepting enrolments, as the Primary Schools have done for a number of years. In 2018 and 2019, this resulted in upset for some families not living in the designated area for the school of their choice. Please ensure you read the information provided by the Secondary Colleges and the processes and timeline for enrolment and appeal. The Colleges at the information evening, are the best to answer any of the questions you may have about the process; however I am also happy to talk to you about this if you have any queries. A reminder to all our community that the Annual General Meeting for School Council is also Tuesday 17th March, at 7.00pm in the staffroom. All parents are welcome to attend. Please join us for the presentation of the annual report to the community and for supper. As reported last week, last Friday 6 th March was the close of nominations for School Council in 2020. The number of D.E.T. and parent nominations received has equalled the positions available and as a result an election will not be required. We therefore welcome the following people to a position on School Council for 2020/2021: Parent Members - Bong Lau, Carly Muir, Deb McDonald, Rebecca Briggs, Kellie Spencer, Jackie Forward, Jelena Gutovic, Vaishali Mishra, Rebecca Hill; DET Members- Tom Goddard, Hayley Tellis. School Councilors serving their second year are Elizabeth Bajada, Jackie Forward, Wendy McCall and Kim Mitchell. Positions on each of School Council’s sub committees - Finance, Education and Policy, Buildings and Grounds, and Fundraising, will be determined at next Tuesday’s meeting. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT As a community and residents of Victoria and Australia, we will have all been seeing and hearing the media reports regarding the progress of COVID 19 (Coronvirus) around the world. Please note the latest information from the Victorian Government regarding coronavirus for our part in the world. Parents/guardians/carers of students should make sure that any student returning from mainland China (not including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) from 1 February 2020, Iran from 1 March 2020, South Korea from 5 th March 2020 or Italy from 11 th March 2020, is isolated at home and should not attend school until 14 days after they were last in mainland China, Iran, South Korea or Italy. This recommendation does not apply retrospectively. It applies only to students who were in Mainland China on or after 1 st February, Iran on or after 1 st March, South Korea on or after the 5 th March and Italy on or after the 11 th March. The existing advice remains that parents/guardians/carers of students should ensure that any student is isolated at home and should not attend school for 14 days: following exposure to any confirmed novel coronavirus case; or after leaving Hubei Province The same applies to any impacted staff in schools. The Department of Health and Human Services is providing updated information about novel coronavirus. Please see: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/novelcoronavirus As a school we are continually being updated and will implement any of the restrictions and recommendations from the Department of Health and Department of Education. As advised, it is imperative that we maintain good health hygiene at school, at home and in the community as below; wash hands often with soap and water cough and sneeze into your elbow. We look forward to seeing you at F-2 assembly tomorrow if you are able to attend. ~ Learning Together
