We have 108 new Foundation students for next year. When I started at Coburg North nearly ten years ago this is how many students were in the entire school. The school has come a long way in those ten years and has more change and development looking into the future. The new students settled in very well whilst their parents were delivered a wide range of information about school life from the Principal, Administration staff, OSHC coordinator and two Foundation parents. Thank you to Ruth and Rebecca for their fabulous talk. Students in their first year of school have gone by many names over the years. The ones I can think of are: bubs, beginners, preps and currently Foundation students. There are four more transition sessions planned so if you see an unfamiliar face please welcome them to our school community. MASTERPLAN Last night a session was held for the community to view the draft Master Plan for our ‘new’ school and to listen to the architect’s explanation of how the plans were developed. There was a very good turnout of interested parents. Thank you to Kyla Mamic for providing childcare so parents could attend. There were many questions asked, ideas shared and changes suggested. A copy of the Masterplan is in the school foyer and on the school website for those who were unable to make the meeting. Feedback can be made through the website or on old fashioned sticky notes in the office. The period for community consultation has been very short and we apologise for this as the coordination of the process is not in our control. NEWSPAPERS We are on the hunt for newspapers again so we can complete the mulching and weed proofing of the Wildlife Corridor. Please place your newspapers in the box at the Office door. Thank you CALL FOR STALLHOLDERS We want you to become part of an exciting event. Coburg Farmers Market is coming together with CNPS to host its first craft market and just in time for Christmas. The market will take place on Saturday, December 17 th between 8am and 1pm. The cost of a stall is $30, all of which goes as fundraising to CNPS. Application forms will be released soon. TRANSITION

Last Friday we had our first Foundation Transition session for next year’s families. We have 108 new

Foundation students for next year. When I started at Coburg North nearly ten years ago this is how many

students were in the entire school. The school has come a long way in those ten years and has more

change and development looking into the future. The new students settled in very well whilst their parents

were delivered a wide range of information about school life from the Principal, Administration staff, OSHC

coordinator and two Foundation parents. Thank you to Ruth and Rebecca for their fabulous talk.

Students in their first year of school have gone by many names over the years. The ones I can think of

are: bubs, beginners, preps and currently Foundation students.

There are four more transition sessions planned so if you see an unfamiliar face please welcome them to

our school community.

MASTERPLAN

Last night a session was held for the community to view the draft Master

Plan for our ‘new’ school and to listen to the architect’s explanation of

how the plans were developed. There was a very good turnout of

interested parents. Thank you to Kyla Mamic for providing childcare so

parents could attend. There were many questions asked, ideas shared

and changes suggested. A copy of the Masterplan is in the school foyer

and on the school website for those who were unable to make the

meeting. Feedback can be made through the website or on old

fashioned sticky notes in the office. The period for community

consultation has been very short and we apologise for this as the

coordination of the process is not in our control.

NEWSPAPERS

We are on the hunt for newspapers again so we can complete the mulching and weed

proofing of the Wildlife Corridor. Please place your newspapers in the box at the Office

door.

Thank you

eSmart tip of the week

Child friendly app- Animal Jam Animal Jam is an online playground for kids where they can learn about the natural world while playing with friends.

In Animal Jam, children can become their favourite animal and explore the world of Jamaa, an exotic world filled with a number of different lands and ecosystems. As they explore, players—known as Jammers—can play fun games, watch educational videos and meet other children from around the world who share their love for animals.

Animal Jam relies on a fully-implemented version of Adobe Flash and the use of a mouse to play and run properly, therefore it is best suited for home computers and laptops, not tablets, phones and other mobile devices.

Website URL: http://www.animaljam.com/ Players under the age of 18 must have parental consent. Players using Animal Jam can interact with others playing the game. There are several chat options available.

RESTRICTED CHAT

Players can only type words or phrases from a limited dictionary. Restricted chat is a safe and engaging way for children to practise their typing and social skills, and it works much like the predictive text functions on mobile phones. By default, every new Animal Jam account is set to Restricted chat.

SAFE CHAT

Players can freely type words and phrases to one another. Like all in-game chat, messages typed through Safe chat are run through the safety chat filter. Safe chat is only available to Animal Jam members who have verified parental consent. While all in-game chat in-game is filtered and moderated, there may still be some chat messages that can get through and may be offensive to some players.

BUBBLE CHAT

Players cannot type messages, but can select expressive words and phrases from a pre-approved list.

MAKE.NOISE PERFORMERS (+ MELBOURNE DJEMBE!) Hopefully most of you caught the incredible, words-can’t-describe (so look at the photo… ) performance by Melbourne Djembe at Make.Noise last month? Melbourne Djembe is owned and run by CNPS parents Mitzi McRae and Simon Lewis (Romany, Grade 3). Mitzi used to be a high school science teacher. Simon was a musician. About the time Romany was born they decided to follow their passion for West African drumming and dance and start their business, which runs classes for adults at a primary school in Brunswick. Mitzi says it took years for their idea to take flight. “For a while there were only a few people in my classes, and one of them was my mum.” Now though the classes are brimming and Mitzi thinks it's because “there’s now a critical mass so people feel safe to come and hide behind others!” Later this month Melbourne Djembe are running a camp for adults (kids can go too) so check it out at http://www.melbournedjembe.com.au/camp-samatou/ Once more, the Make.Noise committee says a massive thanks to all the parents and friends who performed at the school’s first festival and helped make it such a joyous event. HOWEVER we’d love to share some more photos on the website and Facebook page, particularly of the wonderful performers, to help promote future events (we were too busy to take any photos ourselves). So, if anyone managed to get some great photos of the bands, circus and other performers can you please email them to Jane and Liz. [email protected] [email protected] We’ll post some more photos soon at: https://www.facebook.com/makenoisefestival/ https://makenoisefestival.wordpress.com/ If you would like to enquire about performing at a future Make.Noise festival please send an email to [email protected]
