Everyone has settled into Butterfly class so wonderfully. We welcomed our new students Gavin, Kem and Thien and all three of them have quickly got into the swing of things. It’s lovely seeing new friendships form, both between the new and the returning students. We have been talking about ‘Myself’ and what this means to ourselves and to others. We have made our own class atlas which combines the nationalities of all of our students, and we have made unique flags which combine the designs of all the countries we were born in. Next, we start Jolly Phonics so expect to hear lots about the alphabet, especially words which start with a S, A, T and I sound. Please look out for calls for things to bring in from home as part of our Jolly Phonics activities! We begin next week with S. We are all looking forward to learning lots about the world and ourselves as the term develops.

We’ve had a wonderful first month together, it’s so lovely seeing all the children bond with each other and grow in confidence. We have lots of new friends from different countries this year, Ciera from Canada, Grace from the UK, Sara from Vietnam and Japan , Sophie from Australia and Zoe from the USA. Hooray! We’ve been busy little bumble bees this month, making lots of beautiful artwork in our class. It’s starting to look amazing and full of colour. All the children have been exploring the garden and enjoying building sand castles in the sand pit. The Children love the home corner in our classroom and are great at role playing with the dolls and the tea sets. We’ve also been getting very messy with painting and play dough. Next month we will be looking at the themes Safety and Autumn. We are planning on learning lots of new songs and having loads fun!

It’s been a terrific start to the school year in the Hamster/K1 classroom. We are all settling nicely back into our routines and we are all excited about taking on new challenges. This term we are exploring the theme ‘Myself’ this is a wonderful element of the curriculum whereby children get to explore the various elements of their identity, important relationships and environment. We are already beginning to compare and contrast experiences in the group. Our Hamster friends have already embarked on their Jolly Phonics adventures and our K1 children are working hard on their letters and sounds. We are looking forward to a fun filled term packed with new discoveries and achievements.

Meet our Teachers
Ms Becky is from the United Kingdom and has worked at HIK over several years, from 2009-2011 and now 2015-present. We are thrilled to have her leading the youngest class again this year: Caterpillar and Cocoon. Becky will also be our System Supervisor this year.
Ms Emily is also from the United Kingdom. This is her second year at HIK. This year she will be working as our Admissions Manager in the morning and teaching the Butterfly class every afternoon.
We are so happy to welcome Ms Sheena back for her second year as the Hamster/K1 class teacher. Ms Sheena comes from Ireland and is our school’s greatest storyteller!
Joining our HIK team this year, we are excited to welcome Ms Libby from the United Kingdom. This is her second happy year in Hanoi. Ms Libby will be our lovely lead teacher in the Butterfly class this year.
