NEWS RELEASE Monday, April 13, 2015 Dairy Depot For Sale by Daughter: John & Diane Elliott Ready to Retire Loves Park, IL - “Dairy Depot in Loves Park, Illinois is for sale by daughter,” says Tonya Lamia, daughter of John and Diane Elliott. “My parents have owned and operated this local summertime hot spot for 15 years, and it's time for them to pass on the keys and retire.” Dairy Depot, located at 5413 North Second Street, has been owned and operated by John and Diane Elliott since 2000, when they purchased the business and commercial building from the estate of Norman Gerth. “Norman founded the Dairy Depot in 1984, and our family regularly enjoyed soft serve ice cream and the sense of community we felt when visiting there,” says Dairy Depot Co-Owner John Elliott. “When Norman passed away, his family was looking for someone to carry on the the Dairy Depot legacy. The timing for us was right, so we bought the business and four buildings.” “Ice cream makes people happy,” says Dairy Depot Co-Owner Diane Elliott. “Dairy Depot has always been a family- friendly place where people come to relax outdoors and enjoy quality time together. Over the past 15 years, we've grown the business and made so many great friends. Although the decision to sell is an emotional one for us, we know it's time to change roles and become the best customers for the next owner.” Open seven days a week during summer months between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Dairy Depot welcomes an average of 400 customers every weekday and up to 700 each Saturday and Sunday. John and Diane employ around ten local high school and college students each season, many of whom have learned valuable skills as their first official job. In 2014 alone, the Dairy Depot team served from their two walk-up windows nearly 30,000 Ice Cream Cones, over 3,000 gallons of Ice Cream Mix, nearly 100 gallons of Hot Fudge, and over 50 gallons of Whipped Cream. Guests also enjoyed outdoor seating for 75 at ten tables under two canopy tents with new green space thanks to the recent demolition of an old house on the property. Owning a seasonal soft serve ice cream parlor has surely been rewarding,” continues John. “Our employees and customers are like family, and - because of them - we've enjoyed a 600% increase in sales as compared to our first year as owners. Diane and I have mixed emotions about selling the business; however, we feel it's time for us to embrace that next chapter in our lives called retirement. Although we'll miss everyone during the summer, we're optimistic we can find a new owner to carry on these longstanding traditions for our customers, neighbors, and community. “We officially invite anyone ready to own their own business to contact us about Dairy Depot,” says Lamia. “The business and equipment are for sale, and the buyer can also consider purchasing the commercial buildings, which are fully occupied. Many upgrades have been made to the interior and exterior of the buildings, including the roofs, mechanicals, shelving and inventory systems, seating areas, parking lots, and storage areas. A dilapidated house on the lot was also demolished in 2014 to create more green space for guests.” “As lifelong residents and dedicated citizens, we purposefully support local businesses and strive to make a difference in our community,” says John. “Of all our accomplishments over the years, owning the Dairy Depot has truly been the most rewarding and most fulfilling experience of our lives.” {More} 5413 North Second Street, Loves Park, IL 61111 DairyDepotLovesPark.com 815.988.0327
