NCU renews MoU with Mitsubishi Electric

Career Counselling

The MoU between NCU and Mitsubishi Electric India Pvt Ltd was renewed for a further period of one year on 29 Nov 2018. Consequent to this MoU,

which was conducted by NCU's team comprising of Dr Pramod Bhatia, Dept of ME; Dr Rekha Vig, Dept of EECE; Dr Praveen Lohchab and Ms Neha Kapur, School of Law; Dr Preeti, School of Management and Mr Akhilesh (technical support). The students, Headmistress and faculty of the school found the session very valuable and as a token of appreciation the school gifted mementos to the NCU team. Dr An ja l i Garg , was on Externship at Conquerent Madhu Electrical, Manesar, on 6 Dec 2018. Conquerent Madhu Electricals provides e l e c t r i c a l s u b s t a t i o n e q u i p m e n t i n c l u d i n g c u s t o m i z e d H V / M V / LV switchboard panels, power & distribution transformers, package compact substations, maintenance free earthing, lightning protection terminals and outer cover manufacturing wherein the cover of panels is manufactured using CNC machines, all electrical connections as per the design approval, along with testing and dispatch of the ready material. The plant houses a high end laboratory with testing facilities to match various other national and international standards.

The externship was a good learning experience for her as she saw the latest techniques being used in manufacturing a panel, its testing and various design related issues from the customer and manufacturer’s point of view.

Department of CSE & ITFaculty Development Programme

q Department of CSE & IT conducted FDP on Project Based Learning from

7-8 Dec 2018. Mr Atul Verma, Knight Learning Solutions, trained the

faculty on Git and SCRUM. The training was comprehensive, covering

various aspects of project based learning, wherein members of the

faculty developed their own projects and learnt the usage of Git

q Dr Kavita Khanna, Ms Jyotika Pruthi and Dr Vijender Singh attended

Google Faculty Institute India ’18 event at Google, Gurugram on 11 Dec

2018. Google Cloud Platform and its applications such as Kubernetes

Engine, Cloud Composer for Python 3, were discussed.

Major General G G Dwivedi (Retd), is an academician, journalist, author, corporate trainer and a social worker. He is a regular guest speaker at premier Centres of Excellence both in India and abroad.

The NavIC Lab at the University is recording data from IRNSS satellites

24*7 and after analyzing the data sending it to SA-ISRO, Ahmedabad, on a weekly basis. Three research scholars are working in the lab under the guidance of Prof Amitava Sen Gupta and Dr Sharda Vashisth. Following are their broad areas of research:

NavIC Lab

q The Department conducted FDP on Web Application Development from

19-21 Dec 2018. Mr Atul Verma, Knight Learning Solutions, trained the

faculty on Web Application Development using HTML5, CSS,

JavaScript, BootStrap 4.0 and Angular. The training covered various

aspects of Web Application Development, wherein members of the

faculty developed their own Movie App using server less architecture.

q The Department conducted FDP on Java and its Applications from 17-18

Dec 2018. Mr Atul Verma, Knight Learning Solutions, trained the faculty

on the functional programming aspects of Java. The training covered

q The Department organized a ten day FDP on ‘Data Science’ for faculty

members and research scholars of the Departments of CSE&IT and

EECE from 21 Dec 2018 – 5 Jan 2019. It was conducted by Mr Manuj,

Mages Institute of Excellence, Singapore, and provided participants a

broad overview of basic concepts related to Data Science, Statistics,

Machine Learning and Python. The ultimate objective was to promote

awareness about recent trends in these areas, improve quality of data

science teaching-learning process, produce quality research and project

q Aditya Varshney, 3rd Year, interned at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre

(BARC), Mumbai, between Dec 2018 - Jan 2019 under the guidance of

Dr Umesh Kumar, Head, Industrial Tomography & Instrumentation

Section, IRAD, BARC. He learnt about NDT (Non-Destructive Testing),

Industrial Tomography, Radiotracer Technique, Radiolytic Degradation

of Dyes and Food Irradiation and got hands-on experience of performing

tests on piezo-resistive polymers using Universal Testing Machine

Mr Diptendu Roy and Mr Lokesh Choudhary attended a certified three day

training/workshop on use of ‘Total Station in Surveying’, organized by NITTTR

Department of Applied Sciences

Dr Aditya Sharma attended a Workshop for Women in Science Administration and Management held at NCBS, Bengaluru, from 26-29 Nov 2018. The workshop was organized by the British Council, IISER Pune and India Bioscience through the Newton-Bhabha Fund. She was among the 50 selected women candidates from India, who are working in the field of Science, Science Management and Science Administration. The workshop was delivered by Prof. Elena Gaura, Associate Dean (Research), Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing, Coventry University (UK) and Dr James Brusey, Reader, Coventry University and Director, Cogent Labs.

The workshop aimed at generating a trained workforce to take on emerging roles in the growing scientific enterprise and to raise awareness about various career options in STEM. Panel discussions were conducted to present the roles and challenges on managing big interdiscipl inary programmes, entrepreneurship and innovation, and synergy among academia, admin and grants. Various hands-on sessions were conducted to identify participants' core skills, strength mapping (in terms of natural, potential and fragile strength), project planning and key points to consider for improved CV etc. All the candidates presented 3 MT on the last day of the workshop, and received very critical and important suggestions on it. Year) and Udit Sengar, (2nd Year), accompanied by Dr Archanaa

Dongre, Head, Dept of CEE, were invited for an internship on

‘Internationalization and Research Collaboration Program’ at Linton

University College, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, from 10-24 Dec 2018.

The programme provided students and faculty collaborative research

enrichment, exposure to international standards in learning and civil

engineering as well as professional ethics. The activities were designed

to offer participants a Malaysian experience with a global perspective.

This internship programme was aimed at initiating collaboration

between The NorthCap University and Linton University College,

Malaysia, for students and faculty exchange programme as well as

research activities. The event was coordinated by Dr Archanaa Dongre,

Faculty Achievement

Dr Hukum Singh was awarded certificates for reviewing two prestigious Elsevier Journals viz., Optics and Lasers Technology and Optik in the calendar year 2018. These certificates have been given in recognition of his contributions made to the quality of the journals. The current impact factors of these journals are 2.503 and 1.191 respectively. Department of Mechanical EngineeringWorkshop

A one day workshop on 'Latest Technologies in Air Conditioning System' was

organized by the Department in association with Daikin Air Conditioners India

Pvt Ltd on 20 Dec 2018. The workshop was held in Daikin Centre of Excellence,

NCU, and attended by 20 faculty members and technical staff of the University.

The Department of ME organized a one day FDP session on 'Mechatronics' at the Capability Development Center, MACE, IMT Manesar, on 19 Dec 2018. 12 faculty members of the Departments of ME and EECE attended the FDP. They were briefed about latest technologies in the fields of manufacturing, control engineering, automation, and industrial safety. The FDP was coordinated by Dr Abhishek Pratap Singh. Centre for Languages LearningDr Divyabha was invited to take sessions on 'Interpersonal Skills' at POSCO- IDPC, India on 12 and 13 Dec 2018. The interactive sessions were on 'Build Harmony and Interpersonal Relationships at Work' and were appreciated by the participants as it helped build a positive attitude and motivated them to achieve success in life. Outreach Activities of Prof. Dash

Prof A P Dash was invited by American Society of Quality (ASQ), to be a Jury in the South Asia Team Excellence Award (SATEA) 2018 in their initial round held from 7-9 Dec 2018 and in the final selection of the winner on 21 Dec 2018 at Suryaa Hotel, New Delhi. 22 world class organisations, selected through a rigorous screening process, participated in the competition and six qualified for the final round which was executed through presentations. The day ended with felicitation of jury members and presentation of awards to the winners followed by dinner. q Dr Saumya Dixit, Assistant Professor, attended a Short Term Training

Programme on 'Case Study Methods: Learning, Teaching and Writing'

organized by School of Management Studies, MNNIT Allahabad, from

17-21 Dec 2018. The programme sensitized the participants to become

active learners through analysis of situations, problems, decisions and

post decisions. Topics of discussion included techniques like mixed

research methods, triangulation, in-depth interviews and detailed

analysis of cases from different functional areas of management. The

workshop provided insights into enhancing case writing skills for

research paper publications as well as improved case teaching skills to

Zycus, a leading global provider of complete Source-to-Pay suite of procurement performance solutions, conducted its selection process on 30 Nov 2018 for BTech (all branches) students. Results are awaited.

IBM India's solutions and services span all major industries including financial services, healthcare, government, automotive, telecommunications and education, among others. The company conducted its selection process on 1 & 2 Dec 2018 for BTech / MTech (CSE) students wherein four students got the final job offer.

Protiviti, a global consulting firm that helps companies solve problems in finance, technology, operations, governance, risk, and internal audit, conducted its selection process on 5 Dec 2018 for BTech (CSE) students and gave job offers to two students.

McDermott, a premier fully-integrated provider of technology, engineering and construction solutions to the energy industry, carried out its selection process on 14 Dec 2018 for BTech (ME) students and two students got the final job offer.

OYO Rooms, India's leading hospitality company consisting mainly of budget hotels and currently operating in 5000 hotels across India and South Asia, conducted its selection process on 14 Dec 2018 for BTech (CEE) students wherein two got the final offer.

edWisor.com, conceived to increase the employability among graduates in India, conducted its selection process on 20 Dec 2018 for BTech (all branches), BBA, BBA-LLB (H) and MBA students wherein nine students got the final offer.

All students at SOL were on one month’s winter internship in December 2018 as a part of their course curriculum. 1st Year students interned at reputed NGOs such as Navjyoti, Chetnalya etc; 2nd Year students at District Courts and Tribunals; 3rd Year students at the High Court including offices of judges at various levels; 4th and 5th Year students interned at Law firms, commissions and with advocates of High Courts and the Supreme Court of India for gaining practical experience. Staff Sports Tournaments 2018

Staff sports tournaments 2018 were held from 19-21 Dec 2018. All staff members participated in various sports activities with full zeal. The tournaments included cricket (M & W), table tennis (M), badminton (M, W) carrom, chess, volleyball and tug of war.

q Vaibhav Mishra, Chemistry research scholar, Dept of APS, presented his paper o n ‘ S i l i c a s u p p o r t e d piperazine sulfosalicylic acid as recyclable and e n v i r o n m e n t f r i e n d l y catalyst for synthesis of 2-s u b s t i t u t e d benzimidazoles’ at University of Delhi in the National Conference on Chemistry for Human Health and Environment, organized jointly by Green Chemistry Network Centre, Department Of Chemistry, University of Delhi, and Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) held from 15-16 Dec 2018.

Vice Chancellor, Prof HB Raghavendra, attended the National Conference on 'Positioning India on the Global Education Map: Strategies and Road Map' organized by Education Promotion Society for India (EPSI) and Stratfirst India on 14 Dec 2018 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The primary goal of this conference was to bring together leaders and professionals from around the country for an open dialogue, discuss issues/challenges and develop possible strategies for the Vision 2030 Document that provides a roadmap to get 50 Indian institutions rank among the Global Best 500.

The conference was inaugurated by Minister for HRD Mr Prakash Javadekar and attended by Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors, Chairmen, Deans, Directors, Principals and Administrators, nationwide.

q Professor Prem Vrat was the Chief Guest at the inaugural function of the 3rd National Conference on Industrial Engineering and Technology Management (NCIETM-18) at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai, on 30 Nov 2018. He delivered the inaugural address on ‘Reimagining Industrial Engineering and Technology Management for Value Creation’ which was highly appreciated by the delegates from all over the country. He proposed the concept of Industrial Engineering 4.0 so that IE remains relevant in the new technological context.

q Prof. Prem Vrat was invited by AIMA to the Academic Conference on the theme ‘Managing in the age of Disruption: Future of Organisation’ at Hotel Shangri-La, New Delhi on 7 Dec 2018. He addressed the Plenary S e s s i o n - I V o n t h e t h e m e ‘Organization of Future: Structure

Governance, Leadership and Process’ which was well received.

q Prof. Prem Vrat was the ‘Guest of Eminence’ at the 5th Estate 2018-National Convention of India’s Academia by Re-Think India Foundation on 11 Dec 2018 at India International Centre, New Delhi. He also gave away the awards to Principals and faculty of progressive schools for their outstanding performance, on the occasion.

q Prof. Prem Vrat attended the Annual Convention of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) from 13-14 Dec 2018 at RCI-DRDO, Hyderabad.

q Prof. Prem Vrat chaired the meeting of INAE Forum on Engineering Education at RCI, Hyderabad, on 14 Dec 2018.

q Prof. Prem Vrat was a key speaker at the 15th Annual Conference of Indian Society of Quality (ISQ) at Hotel Holiday Inn, New Delhi, on 15 Dec 2018. He delivered a lecture on ‘Role of Quality Education on Quality of Products and Services: Indian Context’. His talk received standing ovation from the audience comprising of mostly senior managers from the industry.
