staring on 15th of January. This is a highly successful programme, backed up by research, that

provides a range of practical strategies to support with parenting and is open to parents with

children of all ages. If you are interested in being involved, please speak to Mrs Nolan or Mrs

Harris.

Competition

Our children have been invited to take part in an exciting competition to illustrate a book.

Local Author David Wiggins who wrote the book “The Forgotten Children”, published in 2019,

is holding a competition to illustrate his next books about Eco Joe.

The books bring to the attention of the reader the need we have to protect and value our

local habitats.

If you would like to enter the competition, please read the information below.

The illustrations for the competition are:

1) Plants that are identified with open common land. This can be a painting or colour drawing

of a piece of open land near each school and showing the plants that grow there.

2) Invertebrates that would be generally found on open common land - a painting or colour

drawing of insects, snails, worms, etc.

3) Primary school children getting ready to visit a habitat, either in the playground in a line

with their coats, hats, boots and scarves, etc. A fun painting or drawing of themselves,

teachers and their friends.

4) Animals and birds that might visit the open common land, such as those birds wanting to

eat the insects or rabbits, voles and mice that come to eat the plants.

5) Predators that come to an open common such as foxes, weasels, kestrels, owls, etc.

6) The same primary children in illustration 3 but now on the common investigating what

there is to be found there.

The illustrations must be in colour and not photographs. They can be paintings, drawings or

collages, they need to be landscape and no bigger than A4. In the spirit of an open

competition, the work should be done individually. Your name, your school, your year group

and your age need to be on the back of your work.

There will be 7 winners of the competition over a spread of ages and an outright winner

judged to be the best illustration out of all the entries. The winner shall have their illustration

on the front cover of the book.

Please hand your entries into your school office by February 2nd 2020.
