Maintaining Your Phone’s Peak Performance© To maximise performance, do not touch the upper back

portion of your phone where the internal antenna is located,while using the phone.

© Speak directly into the mouthpiece.

© Avoid exposing your phone and accessories to rain or liquidspills. If your phone does get wet, immediately turn the poweroff and remove the battery.

© Do not expose your phone to direct sunlight for extendedperiods of time (such as on the dashboard of a car).

Using Your Phone While DrivingTalking on your phone while driving (or operating the phonewithout a hands-free device) is prohibited in some jurisdictions.Laws vary as to specific restrictions.

© Let the person you are speaking know you are driving; ifnecessary, suspend the call in heavy traffic or hazardousweather conditions.

© Do not take notes or look up phone numbers while driving.

Following Safety GuidelinesTo operate your phone safely and efficiently, always follow anyspecial regulations in a given area. Turn your phone off in areaswhere use is forbidden or when it may cause interference or danger.

Using Your Phone Near Other Electronic DevicesMost modern electronic equipment is shielded from radiofrequency(RF) signals. However, RF signals from wireless phones may affectinadequately shielded electronic equipment.

RF signals may affect improperly installed or inadequately shieldedelectronic operating systems and/or entertainment systems in motorvehicles. Check with the manufacturer or their representative todetermine if these systems are adequately shielded from external RFsignals. Also check with the manufacturer regarding any equipmentthat has been added to your vehicle.

Consult the manufacturer of any personal medical devices, such aspacemakers and hearing aids, to determine if they are adequatelyshielded from external RF signals.

Note: Always turn off the phone in health care facilities and request permissionbefore using the phone near medical equipment.

Turning Off Your Phone Before FlyingTurn off your phone before boarding any aircraft. To prevent possibleinterference with aircraft systems, ask permission from a crewmember to use your phone while the plane is on the ground.

Turning Off Your Phone in Dangerous AreasTo avoid interfering with blasting operations, turn your phone offwhen in a blasting area or in other areas with signs indicating two-way radios should be turned off. Construction crews often useremote-control RF devices to set off explosives.

Turn your phone off when you’re in any area that has a potentiallyexplosive atmosphere. Although it’s rare, your phone andaccessories could generate sparks. Sparks can cause an explosion orfire, resulting in bodily injury or even death. These areas are often,but not always, clearly marked. They include:

© Fueling areas such as petrol stations.

© Below deck on boats.

© Fuel or chemical transfer or storage facilities.

© Areas where the air contains chemicals or particles such asgrain, dust, or metal powders.

© Any other area where you would normally be advised to turn offyour vehicle’s engine.

Note: Never transport or store flammable gas, liquid or explosives in thecompartment of your vehicle that contains your phone or accessories.

Restricting Children’s Access to Your PhoneYour phone is not a toy. Do not allow children to play with it as theycould hurt themselves and others, damage the phone, or make callsthat increase your telephone bill.

Protecting Your BatteryThe guidelines listed below help you get the most out of yourbattery’s performance.

© Use only approved batteries, AC adapters, and chargers.These chargers are designed to maximise battery life.Using other batteries or chargers voids your warranty and maycause damage.

© In order to avoid damage, charge the battery only intemperatures that range from 0º C to 45º C.

© Don’t use the battery charger in direct sunlight or in highhumidity areas, such as the bathroom.

© Never dispose of the battery by incineration.

© Keep the metal contacts on top of the battery clean.

© Don’t attempt to disassemble or short-circuit the battery.

© Don’t store the battery in high temperature areas for longperiods of time. It’s best to follow these storage rules:

Less than one month:-20º C to 60º C

More than one month:-20º C to 45º C

Disposal of Lithium Ion (LiIon) BatteriesFor safe disposal options of your LiIon batteries, please ensure thatdisposal of this is in accordance with law and regulation.

© Do not dispose of the battery in fire; the cell may explode.

© Do not open or puncture the battery; the released electrolyte iscorrosive and may cause damage to the eyes and skin.

Special Note: Be sure to dispose of your battery properly. In someareas, the disposal of batteries in household or business trash may beprohibited.

Note: For safety, do not handle a damaged or leaking LiIon battery.

Key Features

1. Earpiece lets you hear the caller and automated prompts.

2. Signal Strength Indicator represents the signal strength bydisplaying bars. The more bars displayed, the better the signalstrength.

3. Main LCD (display) displays all the information needed tooperate your phone, such as the call status, the Contacts list, thedate and time, and the signal and battery strength, etc.

4. Navigation Key allows you to scroll through menus quickly andeasily. These keys can also be reassigned to create customisedshortcuts.

5. Softkey (left) lets you select softkey actions or menu itemscorresponding to the bottom left line on the Main LCD.

6. MENU/OK Key lets you access the phone’s menus and select thehighlighted choice when navigating through a menu.

7. Camera Key lets you access the Pictures menu and take picturesand videos.

8. Recorder Key allows you to access the Voice Recorder menu.(See “Using the Voice Recorder” on page 99.)

9. TALK Key allows you to place or receive calls, answer CallWaiting, use Three-Way Calling, or activate Voice Dial.

10. Side Volume Key allows you to adjust the ringer volume instandby mode (with the flip open) or adjust the voice volumeduring a call. The volume key can also be used to scroll up ordown to navigate through the different menu options.

11. SPEAKER Key lets you place or receive calls in speakerphone mode.

12. Microphone allows other callers to hear you clearly when youare speaking to them.

13. Accessories Jack allows you to connect a USB cable (included).CAUTION! Inserting an incorrect accessory into the accessoriesjack may damage the phone.

14. Keypad lets you enter numbers, letters, and characters, andnavigate within menus. Press and hold keys 2–9 for speed dialing.

15. END/POWER Key lets you turn the phone on or off, end a call, orreturn to standby mode. While in the main menu, it returns thephone to standby mode and cancels your input. When you receivean incoming call, it enters silent mode and mutes the ringer.

16. Side Camera Key lets you activate the camera and video mode,and take pictures and videos.

17. BACK Key deletes characters from the display in text entry mode.When in a menu,press the Back key to return to the previous menu.

18. Side Call Key lets you place calls by using Automatic SpeechRecognition.

19. Softkey (right) lets you select softkey actions or menu itemscorresponding to the bottom right line on the Main LCD.

20. Battery Strength Indicator represents the amount of remainingbattery charge currently available in your phone. When all barsare displayed in the battery icon, the phone’s battery is fullycharged. When no bars are displayed, the phone’s battery iscompletely discharged or empty.

21. LED Indicator shows your phone's connection status at a glance.

22. Speaker lets you hear the different ringers and sounds. You canmute the ringer when receiving incoming calls by pressing

, , or any of the external keys. The speaker also lets youhear the caller’s voice in speakerphone mode.

23. Headset Jack allows you to plug in either a stereo headset(included) or an optional headset for convenient, hands-freeconversations. CAUTION! Inserting an incorrect accessory intothe headset jack may damage the phone.

Note: To use the stereo headset included with your phone, please attach thesupplied adapter plug.

24. Sub LCD lets you monitor the phone’s status and see who’scalling without opening the phone.

25. Charger Jack connects the phone to the Charger (included).

26. External Control Key lets you access the Telecom Music Store ornavigate through the media player menu and play musicwithout opening the phone. This key can also be used whenusing the Camera and Voice Recorder functions.

27. Internal Antenna facilitates reception and transmission. Tomaximise call performance, do not obstruct the internalantenna area. (See page 16.)

28. Camera Lens, as part of the built-in camera, lets you takepictures and videos.

29. Flash lets you take pictures or videos in low light.

Turning Your Phone On and OffTurning Your Phone On

To turn your phone on:

Once your phone is on, it displays “Looking for service...” whichindicates that your phone is searching for a signal. When your phonefinds a signal, it automatically enters standby mode – the phone’s idlestate. At this point, you are ready to begin making and receiving calls.

If your phone is unable to find a signal after 15 minutes of searching,the Power Save feature is automatically activated. When a signal isfound, your phone automatically returns to standby mode.

In Power Save mode, your phone searches for a signal periodicallywithout your intervention. You can also initiate a search for serviceby pressing any key (when your phone is turned on).

Tip: The Power Save feature helps to conserve your battery power when you arein an area where there is no signal.

Turning Your Phone Off

To turn your phone off:

© Press and hold until you see the powering down animationon the display screen.

Your screen remains blank while your phone is off (unless the batteryis charging).

Charging the BatteryYour phone’s LiIon battery is rechargeable and should be charged assoon as possible so you can begin using your phone.

Keeping track of your battery’s charge is important. If your batterylevel becomes too low, your phone automatically turns off and youwill lose all the information you were just working on. For a quickcheck of your phone’s battery level, glance at the battery chargeindicator located in the upper-right corner of your phone’s displayscreen. If the battery charge is getting too low, the low battery icon

appears and the phone displays a warning message.

Warning! Using the wrong battery charger could cause damage to your phoneand void the warranty.

Using the Charger

To use the charger provided with your phone:

1. Plug the charger into a wall outlet.

2. Plug the other end of the charger into the charger jack at thelower left portion of your phone (with the battery installed).

n Charging when your phone is turned on:The battery icon appears as follows while charging.

→ → → The battery icon turns to when charging is completed.

n Charging when your phone is turned off:The battery icon appears, and the message “BATTERYCHARGING--Power Off--” is shown on the display whilecharging. When the battery is completely discharged, it maytake several minutes until the message is shown on thedisplay. The battery icon turns to , and the messagechanges to “CHARGING COMPLETE--Power Off--” whencharging is completed.

Tip: Be sure to watch your phone’s battery strength indicator and charge thebattery before it runs out of power.

Note: You can also charge your phone’s battery with the included USB cable.Simply plug one end of the USB cable into your phone and the other end into afree USB port on your desktop or laptop computer. (If your battery has beencompletely run down, it cannot be charged via the USB cable.)

Navigating Through Phone MenusThe navigation key on your phone allows you to scroll throughmenus quickly and easily. The scroll bar at the right of the menukeeps track of your position in the menu at all times.

To navigate through a menu, simply press the navigation key up ordown. If you are in a first-level menu (after selecting an item in themain menu), you may also navigate to the next or previous first-levelmenu by pressing the navigation key right or left.

For a diagram of your phone’s menu, please see “Menu Navigation”on pages 33 to 34.

Selecting Menu ItemsAs you navigate through the menu, menu options are highlighted.Select any numbered option by simply pressing the correspondingnumber on the phone’s keypad. You may also select any item byhighlighting it and pressing .

For example, if you want to view your last incoming call:

1. Press to access the main menu.

2. Select Call History (when in List View) by pressing or byhighlighting it and pressing .

3. Select Incoming by pressing or by highlighting it andpressing . (If you have received any calls, they are displayedon the screen.)

Note: For the purposes of this guide, the above steps condense into “Select >Call History > Incoming”.

Displaying Your Phone NumberTo display your phone number:

© Select > Contacts > My Name Card.

Tip: From the My Name Card screen, you can send a business card (owner information) using Bluetooth. Press Options (right softkey) > Send via Bluetooth and follow the instructions. See “Bluetooth” on page 137 for information on Bluetooth.

You can also display your phone number from the Phone Info menu. Select > Settings > Phone Info > My Phone#. (Your phone number and other information about your phone will be displayed.)

Using the SpeakerphoneThe speakerphone feature lets you hear audio through the speakerand talk without holding the phone. When the speakerphone isactivated, use the Side Volume key ( ) to adjust the volume.

To turn the speakerphone on or off during a call:

Adjusting Volume During a ConversationWhen you need to adjust the receiver volume during a conversation,use the Side Volume key, or press the navigation key up or downwhile a call is in progress.

Calling Emergency NumbersYou can place calls to 111 (dial and press ),even if your phone is locked or your account is restricted. Once youdial the numbers, your phone will enter Emergency mode.

Saving a Phone NumberYour phone can store up to 700 phone numbers in up to 500Contacts entries (an entry may contain up to seven numbers).Each entry’s name can contain 32 characters. Your phoneautomatically sorts the Contacts entries alphabetically.

To save a number from standby mode:

1. Enter a phone number and press Options (right softkey).

2. Select Save Phone#.

3. Select New Name to create a new Contacts entry for thenumber, or From Ph. Book to save the number to an existingentry. (This step is not necessary on the very first entry inContacts.)

4. Select a label and press .

5. Enter a name for the new entry using the keypad and press .– or –Search for an existing contact name and press to save the newnumber.

6. Press Save (left softkey) to save the entry.

7. Press Done (left softkey) to return to standby mode.

Finding a Phone NumberYou can search Contacts entries for phone numbers that contain aspecific string of numbers.

To find a phone number:

1. Enter the last four or more digits of the number and pressOptions (right softkey). (The more numbers you enter, the morespecific the search becomes.)

2. Select Find. (The Contacts entry that ends with the digits youentered appears.)

3. Scroll to your desired entry.

Dialing and Saving Phone Numbers With PausesYou can dial or save phone numbers with pauses for use withautomated systems, such as voicemail or credit card billing numbers.

There are two types of pauses available on your phone:

v Hard Pause sends the next set of numbers when you press .

v 2-Sec. Pause automatically sends the next set of numbers aftertwo seconds.

Note: You can have multiple pauses in a phone number and combine 2-secondand hard pauses.

To dial or save phone numbers with pauses:

1. Enter the phone number and press Options (right softkey).

2. Select either Hard Pause or 2-Sec. Pause.(Hard pauses are displayed as a “P” and 2-second pauses as a “T”.)

3. Enter additional numbers.

4. To dial the number, press or .– or –To save the number in your Contacts, press Options (rightsoftkey) > Save Phone#.

Note: When dialing a number with a hard pause, press to send the next set ofnumbers.

Making International Calls With Plus Code DialingYour phone’s Plus Code Dialing feature can automatically dial theinternational access code when you are traveling outside of NewZealand. (Not available in some areas.)

To make a call using plus code dialing:

1. From standby mode, press and hold until a “+” signappears on the phone display.

2. Enter the country code and phone number, and press or .

Note: To make an international call from inside New Zealand please dial 00 thenenter the country code and phone number.

Dialing From the Contacts DirectoryTo dial directly from a Contacts entry:

1. Select > Contacts > Find/Add Entry.

2. Select the entry you want to call and press or to dial thenumber listed at the top of the entry.– or –To dial another number from the entry, select the name andpress , highlight the number you wish to call, and press or .

Tip: You can also place a call by pressing Options (right softkey) > Call orCall:Speaker On.

Note: The icons next to each entry represent the labels (for example, Mobile,Home, Work, etc.) for the entry’s default number. A triangle next to the labelmeans there is another number for the entry, also represented by a label. Pressthe navigation key right or left between labels to select the desired number.

Using Speed DialingYou can store up to eight numbers in your phone’s speed dial memory tomake contacting friends and family as easy as pressing a button. With thisfeature, you can dial your favourite entries using one key press forlocations 2-9. (See “Assigning Speed Dial Numbers” on page 70.)

Using Abbreviated DialingAbbreviated Dialing is similar to speed dialing. You can use either ofthe following abbreviated dialing features.

v Ph.Book Match allows you to retrieve any desired number saved inyour Contacts by entering only the last three to six digits of thenumber, and dial the retrieved number. (See “To activate the Ph.Book Match feature:” on page 52.)

v Prepend allows you to prepend predefined numbers (first five orsix digits) to the last three to ten digits you enter, and then dialsthe number. (See “To activate the prepend feature:” on page 52.)

Selecting a Character Input ModeYour phone provides convenient ways to enter words, letters,punctuation, and numbers whenever you are prompted to enter text(for example, when adding a Contacts entry or when sending emailmessages).

To change the character input mode:

1. When you display a screen where you can enter text, pressMode (right softkey).

2. Select a character input mode:

Tip: When you see triangles on the left and right of the menu, you can press thenavigation key left or right to switch between different input modes.

n T9 Word to enter characters using predictive T9 Text Input.

n Alphabet to enter characters by tapping the keypad.

n SYMBOL to enter symbols.

n SMILEYS to enter smile icons.

n Emoticons to enter “emoticons”.

n Web Shortcuts to enter Web shortcuts (for example, www., http://, .com, etc.)

n Preset Messages to enter preset messages.

n Recent Messages to enter messages you have used recently.

n Paste List to paste copied or cut text (if applicable).

n NUMBER to enter numbers.

n Signature to enter your signature (see page 46).

n Fr. Schedule List to use words you added in your Calendar asSchedule.

n From To Do List to enter To Do List as an event, etc..

n Erase All to erase all text (if applicable).

n Select Text to select stored text for copying or cutting.

Note: Up to three of the most recently used input modes are displayed from the topof the input mode list when Mode (right softkey) is pressed during text entry. To turnoff this feature, select > Settings > Others > Text Entry > Recent Access > Off.

Entering Characters Using T9 Text InputT9 Text Input lets you enter text in your phone with just onekeypress per letter. (To select the T9 Word mode when entering text,see “Selecting a Character Input Mode” on page 29.)

T9 Text Input analyses the letters you enter using an intuitive worddatabase and creates a suitable word. (The word may change as youenter more letters.) To accept a word and insert a space, press or .

Tip: In order to insert a space by pressing during the step above, the Auto-Space setting must be on. (See “Setting Text Entry Options” on page 50.)

If you make a mistake, press to erase a single character. Press andhold to delete word by word.

Adding a Word to the T9 Database

If a word you want to enter does not display as an option when youare using T9 Text Input, you can add it to the database.

To add a word to the T9 text input database:

1. Select the Add Word mode. (See “Selecting a Character InputMode” on page 29.)

2. Enter the word using multi-tap (Alphabet) text entry and pressSave (left softkey). (See “Entering Characters Using AlphabetMode” on page 32.)

Adjusting the Phone’s Volume SettingsTo adjust the ringer volume:

1. Select > Settings > Sounds > Volume > Ringer.

2. Adjust the volume level with the navigation key and press Done(left softkey).

n When adjusting the volume, press to put a check mark inthe box next to Always Vibrate. This setting makes theringer vibrate at any volume level.

Tip: You can adjust the ringer volume in standby mode (or the earpiece volumeduring a call) by using the Side Volume key.

Adjusting the Alert Volume SettingsThis setting controls the alert volume of Voicemail, Messaging, andCalendar/Alarm. You can set the alert volume separately from theringer volume setting.

To adjust the alert volume setting:

1. Select > Settings > Sounds > Volume> Advanced Ringer.

2. Select Voicemail, Messaging, or Calendar/Alarm.

3. Using the navigation key, select Separate Vol.

4. Adjust the volume level with the navigation key and press Done(left softkey).

Adjusting the Phone’s Receiver Volume

To adjust the receiver volume:

1. Select > Settings > Sounds > Volume > Receiver.

2. Select either Earpiece or Speaker.

3. Adjust the volume level with the navigation key and press Done(left softkey).

Adjusting the Application, Start-up/Power-off, or Key BeepVolume

Selecting a Vibrate PatternWith this feature, you can select a vibrate pattern for incoming calls,messages, and alarms.

To select a vibrate pattern:

1. Select > Settings > Sounds > Vibrate Pattern.

2. Select Incoming Calls, Voicemail, Messaging, or Calendar/Alarm.The following items require an additional step:

n Incoming Calls: select With Caller ID or No Caller ID.

n Messaging: select Text or Picture Msg.

3. Select a vibrate pattern and press .

Alert NotificationYour phone can alert you with an audible tone when you changeservice areas, once a minute during a voice call, or when a call hasbeen connected.

To set alerts:

1. Select > Settings > Sounds > Alerts.

2. Select your desired option and press .

n Service sets an alert to notify you of network servicesparameter changes.

n Voicemail sets an alert to notify you of voice messages.

n Messaging sets an alert to notify you of text or picturemessages.

n Minute Beep sets a minute reminder that beeps ten secondsbefore the end of each minute during a call.

n Signal Fade sets an alert to notify you when your phoneloses a signal during a call.

Display Settings

Changing the Backlight Time LengthTo change the main LCD or sub LCD backlight setting:

1. Select > Settings > Display > Backlight.

2. Select Main LCD or Sub LCD.

3. Select Always On, Always Off, or a preset length of time.

Note: The Always On setting returns to the previous value the next time you turnon the phone.

To change the keypad backlight setting:

1. Select > Settings > Display> Backlight > Key.

2. Select Always Off or a preset length of time.

Note: Long backlight settings affect the battery’s talk and standby times.

Power Save ModeThis feature helps conserve your battery power by setting the MainLCD, Sub LCD, and key pad backlights to “Always Off,” and by settingthe Main LCD sleep mode to “after 30 sec.” and the Sub LCD sleepmode to “after 5 sec.”.

To set this feature:

1. Select > Settings > Display > Power Save Mode.

2. A message appears. Press OK (left softkey) to continue.

Changing the Display Screen AnimationTo change the animation display:

Customising the User InterfaceYour phone lets you customise the user interface (UI) of the StandbyScreen, Main Menu and My Favourites settings with your choice ofdownloaded themes to reflect your personality. You can downloadthe latest themes directly into your phone from the correspondingURL.

To change the display themes:

1. Select > Settings > Display > Themes.

2. Select SANYO or available downloaded themes.

Note: If you change back to SANYO after you have applied a theme, the phonewill return to the previous clock display. Also, if you select a theme other thanSANYO, the navigation key shortcuts are in some instances disabled.

To download an available theme to your phone:

1. Select > My Content > Themes.

2. Select Get New. (The browser will launch.)

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to download a theme.

Changing the Text Font SizeThis setting allows you to adjust the display appearance whenentering text (for example, when writing a message or adding aContacts entry) or when viewing a message.

To change the text font size:

1. Select > Settings > Display > Others > Font Size.

2. Select View or Input.n View to select Messaging or Browser.n Input to select Phone#s, Messaging, or Others.

3. Select your desired font size and press .

Tip: From the font preview display, select your desired font size by pressing thenavigation key right or left.

Changing the Display for My BuddyThis feature enables you to see a humorous animation on the MainLCD by opening the phone.

To activate or deactivate My Buddy:

1. Select > Settings > Display > Others > My Buddy.

2. Select On or Off.

Setting Return to Standby ModeThis feature allows you to select the way to return to standby mode.

To set this feature:

1. Select > Settings > Display > Others > Return to Idle.

2. A message appears. Press OK (left softkey) to continue.

3. Select Automatically or End Key.

n Automatically to return to standby mode automaticallywhen no key is pressed for 30 seconds.

n End Key to return to standby mode by pressing .

Note: End Key setting affects the battery’s talk and standby times.

Location SettingsYour phone is equipped with a Location feature for use in connectionwith location-based services that may be available in the future.

Note: The Location feature is currently not available.

The Location feature allows the network to detect your position.Turning Location off will hide your location from everyone except emergency numbers e.g. 111.

Note: Even if the Location feature is enabled, no service may use your locationwithout your express permission.

To enable your phone’s Location feature:

1. Select > Settings > Location.(The Location disclaimer is displayed.)

2. Read the disclaimer and press OK (left softkey).

3. Select On or Off.

When the Location feature is on, your phone’s standby screen willdisplay the icon. When Location is turned off, the icon will bedisplayed.

Messaging SettingsYour phone’s messaging settings allow you to create and edit presetmessages, signatures, notifications, and so on, making messagingfaster and easier than ever.

Setting the Message Notification DisplayWhen you receive a message, your phone notifies you by displayingan icon on your display screen. You can also choose to be notifiedwith a message notification on your display screen.

To set the message notification display:

1. Select > Settings > Messaging > Notification.

2. Select Msgs and Icon or Icon Only.

Tip: To access Messaging settings menu, you can also select > Messaging >Settings.

Managing Preset MessagesYour phone can store preset messages for use with text messagingand picture messaging. You can edit your phone’s default presetmessages through the Settings menu.

To edit a preset message:

1. Select > Settings > Messaging > Preset Msgs.(The list of preset messages is displayed.)

2. Select the message you want to edit and press .

3. Use your keypad to edit the message and press OK (left softkey)to save your changes.

Setting a Callback NumberWith this feature, you can notify your recipients of your callbacknumber using a text message.

To set the callback number:

1. Select > Settings > Messaging > Text > Send Callback#.

2. Press , and then select an option from the following and press .

n None to send no callback number.

n My Phone# to send your phone number.

n Other to send a specific callback number. To set a number,enter a phone number, and press .

Adding a Customised SignatureEach message you send can have a customised signature to reflectyour personality.

To add a customised signature to a message for sending:

Setting Drafts AlertDrafts Alert gives you a reminder when you have unsent messageswaiting in the drafts folder.

To set Drafts Alert:

1. Select > Settings > Messaging > Text > Drafts Alert.

2. Select On.

Airplane ModeAirplane Mode allows you to use many of your phone’s features, suchas Games, Music, Voice Recorder, etc., when you are in an airplane orin any other area where making or receiving calls or data isprohibited. When your phone is in Airplane Mode, it cannot send orreceive any calls or access online information.

To set your phone to airplane mode:

1. Select > Settings > Others > Airplane Mode.(The Airplane Mode disclaimer displays.)

PTTY UseA TTY (also known as a TDD or Text Telephone) is atelecommunications device that allows people who are deaf or hardof hearing, or who have speech or language disabilities, tocommunicate by telephone.

Your phone is compatible with TTY devices using 45.45 Baud rate.Please check with the manufacturers of your TTY device to ensurethat it supports digital wireless transmission and 45.45 Baud rate.Your phone and TTY device will connect via a special cable thatplugs into your phone’s headset jack. If this cable was not providedwith your TTY device, contact your TTY device manufacturer topurchase the connector cable.

To turn TTY mode on or off:

1. Select > Settings > Others > TTY.(An informational message is displayed.)

2. Read the disclaimer and press OK (left softkey) to continue.

3. Select Enable or Disable.

To assign your shortcut key:

Setting the Open/Close Flip OptionThis feature enables you to answer an incoming call by opening theflip or to end a call by closing the flip.

To activate the Open Flip feature:

1. Select > Settings > Others > Open/Close Flip.

To activate the Close Flip feature:

Headset ModeThis feature allows you hands-free phone use. Set the headset modeto Voice Call and press the Turbo Button (the operation button) onthe headset to activate useful functions.

To connect the headset:

To set headset mode:

1. Select > Settings > Others > Headset Mode.

2. Select Turbo Button.

Setting Navigation Key ShortcutsYou can use the navigation key as a shortcut to access specific menuitems directly from standby mode. With this feature, you can reassignthe default shortcut keys to the menu items you choose.

To set the navigation key shortcuts:

1. Select >Settings > Others > Navigation Keys.

2. Select the shortcut key you wish to reassign and press .

3. Using the navigation key or your keypad, highlight a function.

4. Press Assign (left softkey) to save.

Note: These shortcuts are available only when the display theme is set to SANYO(see “Customising the User Interface” on page 40).

Setting the Key GuardThis feature enables you to lock your external keys while the flip isclosed.

To turn the key guard on or off:

1. Select > Settings > Others > Key Guard.

2. Select On or Off.

Note: This feature does not apply when the flip is open.

Tip: You can deactivate this feature temporarily to use external keys by pressingand holding or while the phone is closed. The feature will be reactivatedwhen the phone is left unoperated for approximately 30 seconds or when thephone is opened and closed again.

To lock your phone:

1. From the Security menu, select Lock Phone.

2. Select Outgoing Calls or Incoming Calls.

n Allow All lets you make or receive all calls.

n Phone Book Only lets you make or receive calls to or fromContacts entries, voicemail, or special numbers only.

Note: Restricted incoming calls are forwarded to voicemail.

Using Special NumbersSpecial numbers are important numbers that you have designated asbeing “always available.” You can make or receive calls to or fromspecial numbers even if your phone is locked.

You can save up to three special numbers in addition to yourContacts entries (the same number may be in both directories).

To add or replace a special number:

1. From the Security menu, select Others > Special #s.

2. Select a field for your entry and press .

3. Enter your desired phone number and press .

Note: There are no speed dial options associated with special numbers.

Special numbers cannot be called if Lock Services (see page 56) is set toLocked.

Erasing the Phone ContentYou can quickly and easily erase all the content that you have created.

To erase phone content:

1. From the Security menu, select Erase/Reset, select the itemfrom the following, and press .

n Erase Ph. Book to erase all of your Contacts entries.

n Erase My Content to erase all items you have downloaded toyour phone.

n Erase Pictures to erase all pictures and videos saved in yourphone.

n Erase Voice Data to erase all voice memos saved in yourphone.

n Erase Voice Tag to erase all voice tags you have recorded.

n Erase Messages to erase all messages (including lockedones) in the Inbox, Sent Mail, Pending, and Drafts folders; allRecent Lists; and all user-created preset messages andfolders.

n Erase Cal. Events to erase all scheduled events (includingsecret ones).

n Erase Memory to erase all data and folders you have made inFile Manager.

2. If you are certain you would like to erase, press OK (left softkey),and then select Yes.

Resetting the BrowserThis option resets your Web browser’s history, bookmarks, cookies,auto-complete text, and URLs.

To reset the browser:

1. From the Security menu, select Erase/Reset > Reset Browser.

2. If you are certain you would like to reset, press OK (left softkey),and then select Yes.

Resetting Default SettingsResetting the default settings restores all the factory defaults,including the ringer types and display settings. The Contacts, CallHistory, Calendar, and Messaging are not affected.

To reset default settings:

1. From the Security menu, select Erase/Reset > Default Settings.(A disclaimer appears.)

To minimise the inconvenience of losing your phone book details,please keep a separate record of the information.

Enabling and Disabling Internet ServicesYou can disable Internet services without turning off your phone;you will not have access to all Internet services, including Web andemail. Disabling Internet will avoid any charges associated withInternet services. While signed out, you can still place or receivephone calls, check voicemail, and use other voice services. You mayenable Internet services again at any time.

To disable Internet services:

1. Select > Settings > Internet > Disable.(A message will appear.)

6. Managing Call HistoryViewing History

You’ll find the Call History feature very helpful. It is a list of the last 20voice calls that you placed, accepted, or missed. Call History makesredialing a number fast and easy. It is continually updated as newnumbers are added to the top of the list and the oldest entries areremoved from the bottom of the list.

To view a Call History entry:

1. Select > Call History, and then select Outgoing, Incoming,Missed, or Recent Calls.

2. Select the entry you wish to view and press .

Tip: You can also view the next Call History entry by pressing the navigation keyright or view the previous entry by pressing the navigation key left.

Note: Call History records only calls that occur while the phone is turned on. If acall is received while your phone is turned off, it will not appear in the phone'sIncoming or Missed call logs.

Call History OptionsFor additional information and options on a particular call, highlighta Call History entry and press Options (right softkey).

v Call to dial the phone number.

v Call:Speaker On to dial the phone number in speakerphone mode.

Prepending a Phone Number From CallHistory

If you need to place a call from Call History and you happen to beoutside your local area code, you can add the appropriate prefix byprepending the number.

To prepend a phone number from Call History:

1. Scroll to a Call History entry and press Options (right softkey).

2. Select Prepend.

3. Enter the prefix and press or to place a call.

Erasing Call HistoryTo erase Call History:

1. Select > Call History > Erase History.

3. Select your desired contact entry and press .

Assigning an Image to a Contacts EntryYou can assign an image to a Contacts entry. The image is displayedwhen the entry calls you.

To assign an image for an entry:

1. Display your Contacts list. (See page 65.)

2. Select the entry for which you want to assign the image andpress .

3. Press Options (right softkey) > Edit; or if you are selecting anitem other than the phone number, press Edit (right softkey).

4. Press the navigation key up to select the icon and press .

5. Select your desired image and press to preview, and press again to assign the image to the entry.

6. Press Save (left softkey) to save the image type.

Selecting a Ringer Type for an EntryYou can assign a ringer type to a Contacts entry so you can identify thecaller by the ringer type. (See “Ringer Types” on page 35.)

To select a ringer type for an entry:

2. Select the entry for which you want to set the incoming ringerand press .

Secret Contacts EntriesYou can hide an entry’s phone number(s) and require your lock codeto edit the entry by making it secret. The entry name is still displayed,but the entry’s phone numbers are replaced with “<Secret>”.

To make an entry secret or public:

1. Display your Contacts list. (See page 65.)

2. Scroll to the entry you want to tag as secret.

3. Press Options (right softkey) > Set Secret.4. Enter the 4-digit lock code.

5. Select On to make an entry secret, or Off to make an entrypublic.

Tip: If you never changed the lock code number and you can’t recall your lockcode, try using the last four digits of your phone number.

Dialing ServicesYour Contacts is preprogrammed with contact numbers for variousdialing services.

To dial a service:

1. Select > Contacts > Services.

Displaying Your CalendarTo display your calendar:

Tip: The current day is framed by a rectangle.

To change the calendar display views, press Monthly/Weekly (left softkey). In the weekly view, you can easily add to or edit your own schedule.

Note: In a no-service area, it’s necessary to set the actual time and date to usethe Calendar function.

Changing the Calendar SettingsThis setting allows you to change the default settings for your phone’scalendar. You can customise the calendar display according to yourneeds.

To change the calendar settings:

1. From the calendar display, press Options (right softkey) >Settings.

2. Select an option from the following and press .

n Holiday to add a holiday to the calendar or edit the calendar(Set Date, Set Weekly, Reset Date, Reset Weekly, orReset All).

n Display to change the display settings of the calendar(Calendar View, Monthly View, or Time Starts at).

n Alarm to change the alarm settings of the calendar (Ringer Length, Snooze Interval, or Snooze Times).

Adding an Event to the CalendarYour Calendar helps organise your time and reminds you ofimportant events. You can schedule up to 200 events.

To add an event:

1. From the calendar display (see “Displaying Your Calendar” onpage 73), highlight the day you want to add an event.

2. Press Options (right softkey) > Add Schedule.

3. Enter the description using your keypad and press (or pressMode [right softkey] to select a description from “From To DoList” or “Fr. Schedule List”).

Note: The “From To Do List” or “Fr. Schedule List” options will not appear if thereis no item stored in those lists. See “Adding To Do List Items” on page 79 fordetails.

4. Select the items you want to edit and press .

n Description to modify a description for the event (ifneeded).

n Category to select an event category (Appointment, Business,Meeting, Personal, Vacation, Travel, or Miscellaneous).

n Priority to select an event priority (None, High, or Low).

n Start to schedule a start time for the event.

n End to schedule an end time for the event.

n Location to edit the location for the event.

n Alarm to select your desired ringer type for the alarm.

n Alarm Time to edit the alarm time (number of hours orminutes before the event starts). The default alarm time is10 minutes before an event.

n Repeat to select a repeating status for the event. Select Once,Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly.

5. Press Save (left softkey) to save the event.

Tip: In the monthly view, days with events scheduled are indicated by a small ©just to the left of the date. In the weekly view, times for which you have scheduledevents are displayed as coloured blocks.

Event AlertsThere are several ways your phone alerts you of scheduled events:

Event Alert MenuWhen you have an event alarm scheduled, your phone alerts you anddisplays the event summary.

2. Enter the date you wish to go to using the navigation key and/orthe keypad, and press .

Erasing a Day’s EventsTo erase a day’s scheduled events:

1. Select > Tools > Calendar.

2. From the monthly view, highlight the day for which you wouldlike to erase events and press .

3. Highlight an event and press Options (right softkey) > Erase.

4. Highlight your desired option and press .

n This to erase a single event.

n Select to erase selected events at one time.

n All on This List to erase all events on the list.

(Above options may not be displayed if you have only oneevent scheduled.)

Deleting Scheduled EventsTo delete scheduled events:

Deleting Items From the To Do ListTo delete To Do List items:

1. From the To Do List display (see page 80), highlight the itemyou want to erase and press Options (right softkey) > Erase.

2. Select your desired option and press .

n This to erase an item from the To Do List.

n Select to erase multiple selected To Do List items at onetime. Press to check the box(es) next to the To Do Listitem(s) you want to delete and press Erase (left softkey) toerase. To check all boxes, press Options (right softkey) > Check All. Press Erase (left softkey) to erase them.

Using the Alarm Clock

Your phone comes with a built-in alarm clock with multiple alarmcapabilities.

To use the alarm clock:

1. Select > Tools > More Tools > Alarm Clock.

2. Select a number, press , and then enter the following items.

n Description to enter a description of the alarm (up to 14characters).

n Time to enter the alarm time. Enter the desired alarm timeand press .

n Repeat to select the alarm frequency.

n Alarm to set the alarm on/off.

3. Press Save (left softkey) to save the alarm settings.

4. Press Settings (right softkey), and then use your keypad ornavigation key to set the Ringer Length, Snooze Interval orSnooze Times.

5. Press Done (left softkey).

Tip: Press the left softkey (On or Off) to toggle the alarm on and off.

Note: Depending on the Power On to Alert setting, the alarm setting will be activeeven if the phone is turned off. (See “Setting Power On to Alert” on page 52.)

Using the StopwatchTo start the stopwatch:

To record a lap time while the stopwatch is running:

Connecting Your Phone to Your PCBefore using your phone’s mass storage capabilities, you need toprepare your device’s data services to synchronise with your desktopor laptop computer. Once the phone is connected to the PC, you cantransfer your data to or from the phone quickly and easily.

To connect your phone to your PC:

1. Select > Tools > USB Connection > Mass Storage.

2. Connect your phone to your PC by using the included USBcable. (Wait for the connection to complete. When connected,the host computer will automatically detect your phone.)

To disconnect:

Downloading Through the Web WirelesslyYour phone allows you to download images (screen savers), ringers,games, etc., from a Web site.

To download a file from the My Content menu:

1. Select > My Content > Options (right softkey).

2. Select Get New. (The browser will launch and display theDownloads main screen.)

3. Select your desired file and follow the system prompts.

Confirming the Downloaded DataThe downloaded data will automatically be classified as games,ringers, images (screen savers), or applications. However, if any datahas a different category, it will be classified as dynamic (the foldername is variable). If data doesn’t belong to any of the above, it will beclassified as others.

To confirm the downloaded data:

1. Select > My Content.

2. Select your desired data folder (for example, Games, Themes,Ringers, Screen Savers, or Applications) and press .

3. Select the downloaded data you want to confirm and press .

Tip: The names of dynamic folders are variable depending on data.

You can manage your contents in the browser.

To confirm your Content Manager:

With a voice dial tag that you record, your phone will automaticallydial a phone number. Your phone can store up to 30 voice dial tags.(To create a voice dial tag, see “Programming Voice Dial Tags” below.)

Note: Please set the Voice Prompt feature (see page 38) to on before using theVoice-Activated Dialing so that you can hear the voice instruction from thephone. The default setting is off.

Making a Call Using Voice-Activated DialingWith the flip open:

Using Automatic Speech RecognitionYour Phone is equipped with an Automatic Speech Recognition(ASR) feature. This feature allows you to make calls or use thephone’s functions by simply using your voice. All you have to do is totalk into the phone, and the phone will recognise your voice andcomplete tasks by itself.

You can activate Automatic Speech Recognition whether the phoneis open or closed.

Activating Automatic Speech RecognitionTo activate automatic speech recognition:

The phone displays the Command menu and prompts you to say thename of the command you want to use. To complete your task,simply follow the voice prompts.

Using Digit TrainingThis feature allows you to train the phone to recognise your voicewhen speaking a phone number. You can get better recognitionaccuracy by programming your intonation pattern into your phone.

To program Digit Training:

1. Press to activate the Command menu.

2. Say “Digit Training.”

3. Say “Start” or press Start (left softkey) to start programming.

4. Follow the voice prompts and recite the digits into your phone’smicrophone. (A voice prompt will indicate the current rate ofadaptation.)

5. Respond to the voice prompt repeatedly until adaptation iscomplete. (When you have finished training, you will hear aconfirmation that the adaptation has been successfullycompleted.)

Note: Try digit training in a quiet environment for the best results. When you train,make sure you speak clearly and distinctly in your natural voice.

Erasing Call MemosTo erase an individual call memo:

1. Select > Voice Services > Voice Recorder > Play orPlay:Speaker > Call Memo.

2. Select the memo you want to erase and press Options (rightsoftkey) > Erase > Yes.

To erase all call memos:

1. Select > Voice Services > Voice Recorder > Erase All >Call Memo.

2. Select Yes to erase all call memos saved in the phone.

Setting Up Screen CallThis feature enables you to screen incoming calls by using a recordedannouncement, either one that is pre-recorded or one that you record.You can also record the caller’s message into the Voice Data list.

Activating Screen CallTo start Screen Call when you have incoming calls:

To set auto Screen Call:

Selecting a Screen Call AnnouncementTo select a Screen Call announcement:

10. MessagingUnderstanding Messaging

Message StorageYour phone can store up to 200 received and 180 sent messages.When the message memory is full, the oldest unlocked message willbe deleted automatically.

Displaying MessagesTo view a new message:

© When you receive a text message, it will automatically appearon your phone’s main display screen with the icon. Whenyou receive a picture message, press View (left softkey) to viewthe message.

Note: When there are two or more notifications, a Missed Alerts list is displayedin standby mode. Select a text/picture message in the list and press View (left softkey) to display the message details.

You can choose to show only the icon when you receive a message(s). See “Setting the Message Notification Display” on page 45.

Use your navigation key to scroll down and view the entire message.

n Press Call (left softkey) to dial the callback number.

n Press Reply (left softkey) to reply to the sender.

n Press Go (left softkey) to go to the Web site.

n Press Forward (left softkey) to forward the message(appears only if there is no sender’s phone number, emailaddress, or callback number).

n Press View (left softkey) to view the picture message.

Composing and Sending a Text MessageTo send a text message:

n Contacts to select a recipient from your internal Contacts.(Qualifying Contacts entries must contain a phone numberor an email address.) After selecting, press Done (leftsoftkey).

n Phone# to use the keypad to enter the phone number of theperson to whom you wish to send a message. After enteringthe number, press .

n Email to enter the recipient’s email address. After enteringthe email, press .

Tip: You may include up to 50 recipients per message.

Press Others (right softkey) > From Recent List or Phone Book Groups to select a recent phone book entry, phone book groups entry, phone number, or email address.

5. Scroll down to select the message priority (Ordinary or Urgent),set the callback number or set the signature.

Editing Preset MessagesPreset messages make sending text messages to your friends, family,and co-workers easier than ever.

To send a preset message:

1. Select > Settings > Messaging > Preset Msgs.

2. Highlight a message you wish to send and press Options (rightsoftkey) > Send Text.

3. Follow steps 2–6 in “Composing and Sending a Text Message”on page 107.

To edit preset messages:

1. Select > Settings > Messaging > Preset Msgs.

2. Select a message you wish to edit and press .

3. Enter your new message or changes and press OK (left softkey).(See “Entering Text” on page 29.)

To reset preset messages:

1. Select > Settings > Messaging > Preset Msgs.

Message FoldersIncoming text messages are stored in folders in your phone’sMessaging menu. You may add up to 10 folders or use the phone’sdefault folder.

To add a new folder:

1. Select > Messaging > Text > Options (right softkey) > Create Folder.

2. Enter a folder name in the Folder Name field and press OK (leftsoftkey).

3. Select from the following optional features for the added folderand press to save each item. Scroll to each item and press .

n Auto Filing to file the incoming messages automatically intothe self-defined folder by keywords. The following optionsappear when this feature is set to On.n Keyword to enter a keyword for Auto Filing.n Notify to set the notification display to on or off.n Envelope Icon to set the envelope icon display to on or off.

4. Press Save (left softkey) to save the folder.

To edit a folder:

1. From the folder list display, highlight a defined folder.

2. Press Options (right softkey) > Edit Folder.

3. Select the field you wish to edit and press .

4. Edit the field and press .

5. Press Save (left softkey) to save the setting.

Taking pictures with your phone’s built-in camera is as simple aschoosing a subject, pointing the lens, and pressing a button. You canactivate the phone’s camera mode and take pictures whether thephone is open or closed.

To take a picture with the flip open:

1. Select > Pictures > Camera to activate camera mode.(Additional options are available through the camera modeOptions menu. See “Camera Mode Options” on page 112 formore information.)

Shortcut: You can also activate camera mode by pressing and holding .

2. Using the phone’s main LCD as a viewfinder, aim the cameralens at your subject.

Tip: You may lock the focus manually by pressing Focus Lock (left softkey).

3. To take the picture, press , , Capture (left softkey), or theside camera key, until the shutter sounds.

4. To save the picture, press Save (left softkey). (The picture willbe saved in the In Phone folder.)

n To discard the picture and return to camera mode, press ,, or Cancel (right softkey).

5. Press Next (right softkey) for more options:

n Take New Picture to return to camera mode to take anotherpicture.

n Send to Contacts to send your picture. (See page 124 fordetails.)

n Print to print an image by mail, at a retail store, by usingPictBridge, or by using Bluetooth.

Note: The Print service is currently not available.

n Post to Services to access available services. Select Update todisplay the latest services.

Setting the Flash

Setting Auto Focus

With this feature, you can adjust the focus automatically dependingon the distance of the subject from the camera lens. By default, theauto focus is set to on.

To set auto focus:

1. From camera mode, press Options (right softkey) > Auto Focus.

2. Select On or Off. When Auto Focus is set to On, you can pressFocus Lock (left softkey) to lock the focus.

Using the Zoom

This feature allows you to zoom in on an object when you take apicture. You can adjust the zoom from 1x to 16x.

To use the zoom:

1. From camera mode, press the navigation key right or left, or theSide Volume key up or down to adjust the zoom. (The gauge barappears.)

2. Press , , or the side camera key to take the picture.

Tip: If you are taking a picture with the phone closed, you can zoom in and out bypressing the external control key left or right.

Setting the Self-Timer

To activate the self-timer:

1. From camera mode, press Options (right softkey) > Self-Timer.

2. Select the length of delay you want the timer to use (10 Seconds or 5 Seconds) and press .To deactivate the self-timer, select Off.

3. Press or Start (left softkey) when you are ready to start thetimer. (The icon appears on the upper right portion of themain LCD during the self-timer countdown.)

4. Get ready for the picture. (When the timer is down to threeseconds, the self-timer icon will turn red and the phone willbegin to beep.)

To cancel the self-timer after it has started:

Taking Multiple Shots

This feature allows you to take up to nine continuous shots insequence. When you take multiple shots, the icon will bedisplayed in the viewfinder.

To take multiple shots:

1. From camera mode, press Options (right softkey) > Fun Tools >Multiple Shots.

Note: When taking multiple shots, the resolution is temporarily set to Low(240x320).

2. Select an option from the following and press .n Off to deactivate multiple shots.n 3 Shots to take a series of 3 shots.n 6 Shots to take a series of 6 shots.n 9 Shots to take a series of 9 shots.

3. Select the duration of the interval between shots (Normal orFast ) and press .

4. Press to take the pictures.

5. Press Save (left softkey) to save the pictures. (The MultipleShots folder will be displayed, up to nine thumbnail pictures perscreen.)

6. Press Next (right softkey) to display picture options, or press to return to camera mode to take another picture.

Selecting Camera Settings

To select your camera settings:

1. From camera mode, press Options (right softkey) > Camera Settings.

2. Select an option from the following and press .

n Resolution to select a file size (2M-1200x1600, 1.3M-960x1280,Medium-480x640, or Low-240x320).

n Quality to select the picture quality setting (Fine, Normal, orEconomy).

n Status Bar to switch the status bar display on or off.

Storing Pictures and VideosYour phone’s picture and video storage area is called My Albums. Thereare two types of storage areas for your pictures and videos that can beused separately according to your needs:

v In Phone (see below)v Online Albums (see page 126)

In Phone FolderThe picture/video storage area used on your phone is called the In Phone folder. From the In Phone folder, you can view the savedpictures and videos in your phone, delete images, and accessadditional options.

To review your stored pictures and videos in the In Phone folder:

1. Select > Pictures > My Albums > In Phone. (Thumbnails willbe displayed, up to nine at a time.)

2. Use your navigation key to view and scroll through the picturesand videos.

In Phone Folder OptionsWhen you are viewing the In Phone folder, press Options (rightsoftkey) to display the following options:

1. From the In Phone folder (see “In Phone Folder” on page 122),select a picture or video you wish to save to the Assigned Mediafolder and press .

2. Press Options (right softkey) > Set as.

3. Select your desired option and press , then follow theonscreen instructions to assign. (A copy of the picture willautomatically be saved to the Assigned Media folder.)

Sending a Picture MessageOnce you’ve taken a picture or video, you can use the messagingcapabilities of your phone to instantly send it to family and friends.You can send pictures or videos to up to 25 people at a time usingtheir email addresses or their phone numbers.

Sending Pictures/Videos From the In Phone FolderTo send pictures/videos from the In Phone folder:

1. Select > Pictures > My Albums > In Phone.

2. Select a picture or video you wish to send and press . (Thecheck box on the lower right corner will be marked. You canselect multiple pictures and videos.)

3. Press Options (right softkey) > Send to Contacts.

4. Select an option from the following and press .n Contacts to select recipients from your Contacts.

Select a recipient and press to select.n Phone# to enter a phone number directly.n Email to enter an email address directly.

Tip: You can also press Others (right softkey) to select recipients from yourdesired list.

5. Press Next (left softkey) when you have finished addingrecipients. (You may include up to 25 recipients per message.)

6. If you wish to include a subject, scroll to Subject and enter yoursubject using the keypad.

7. If you wish to include a text message, scroll to Text, and thenenter your message using your keypad (or press Mode [rightsoftkey] to change the input mode). (See “Entering Text” onpage 29.)

8. If you wish to include a voice message with the picture andvideo, scroll to Audio and select Record (right softkey) torecord. (The maximum recording time is 10 seconds.)

9. To set the priority, scroll to Priority, and then select High, Normalor Low.

11. Press the appropriate softkey to send the pictures and videos.

Sending Pictures/Videos From MessagingYou can also send your pictures/videos from your phone’s Messagingmenu.

To send pictures/videos from the Messaging menu:

1. Select > Messaging > Send Message > Picture Msg.

2. Select Contacts, Phone#, or Email to select or enter recipients.

3. Press Next (left softkey).

4. Select In Phone or Online Albums.

5. Use the navigation key to select the picture or video you wish tosend and press . (You can select multiple pictures andvideos.)

6. Press Next (left softkey). To complete and send the pictures orvideos, follow steps 6-11 in “Sending Pictures/Videos From theIn Phone Folder” on page 124.

Printing Pictures Directly From Your PhoneYour phone is PictBridge compatible, allowing you to print directly fromyour phone without connecting to a computer. Simply connect yourphone to a PictBridge-enabled printer and enjoy printing your photos.

To print pictures directly from your phone:

1. Select > Tools > USB Connection > PictBridge.– or –Select > Pictures > Print@Home > PictBridge.

2. Connect your phone to the PictBridge-enabled printer by usingthe included USB cable. (Wait until the connection is completed.)

3. Set the printer settings using your navigation key.n Picture to Print: You can select the picture from the In Phone

folder. (You can select up to 99 pictures.)n Layout: You can select the print mode from Default Printer,

Standard Print, or Index.n Number of Copies: You can set the number of copies (1-10).

(You cannot specify number of copies when Index is selected.)n Print Size: You can set the print size from Default Printer,

4”x6”, 5”x7”, 8”x10”, or Letter. (Print sizes may varyaccording to the type of printer you have.)

n Date Stamp: You can imprint the date on your pictures.Select Yes or No. (Date stamping may not be availabledepending on the type of printer you have.)

4. When you are finished selecting the printer settings, press Print(left softkey).

5. When printing is finished, press .

6. Select Yes. Follow the instructions on the display to unplug theUSB cable from the phone.

Note: While you are connected to the printer, your phone’s screen will display “Phone Off”. You cannot make or receive calls during this time.

Make sure your battery is fully charged before using the PictBridge.

Pictures not taken on this phone may not be printable.

PictBridge Error Messages: From time to time you may encounter printingproblems. Any printer error messages will be displayed on your phone, informingyou of the specific problems encountered. Please refer to the user’s guide thatcame with your printer for descriptions, explanations, and possible resolutionsfor any error messages.

Multimedia FAQs1. Will I know if I’m receiving an incoming call while I’m viewing or

listening to a clip?No. Incoming calls will roll into voicemail while you are playing aclip. If the caller leaves a voicemail, the voicemail icon will appearon the screen.

2. Can I access Video Clips wherever I am, as long as I have my phone?As long as you are on the home network, you will have access tothe audio and video clips.

Note: Multimedia Service does not work where service is unavailable.

3. Are the videos that I’m viewing “live” videos?No. This service provides videos on demand. The video and audioclips are refreshed throughout the day, but they are not “live.”

4. What does it mean when the video pauses and I see the word“loading” at the bottom of the screen?This happens when the media player is in the process of loadingthe data necessary to play the clip. It typically occurs when there isheavy traffic on the network.

5. If I place my stereo headphones on and insert them into the phone’sheadset jack, can I close the flip while I am playing an audio (or video)clip without interrupting the clip?Yes. When you insert your stereo headset into the phone’s headsetjack, the phone automatically goes into “headset mode,” allowingyou to close the flip and continue playing the clip (likewise,closing the flip during a phone call, will not end the call when in“headset mode”).

Using BluetoothBluetooth is a short-range communications technology that allowsyou to connect wirelessly to a number of Bluetooth devices, such asheadsets, hands-free car kits, and Bluetooth enabled handhelds, PCs,and wireless phones. The Bluetooth communication range is usuallyup to approximately 10 meters (30 feet).

Accessing the Bluetooth Settings MenuThe Bluetooth Settings menu allows you to set up many of thecharacteristics of your phone’s Bluetooth service.

To access the Bluetooth settings menu:

Using the Bluetooth Settings Menu

Turning Bluetooth On and OffBy default, your phone’s Bluetooth feature is turned off. TurningBluetooth on makes your phone “available” to other in-rangeBluetooth devices. To make your phone visible to other devices, youmust also set your phone’s visibility to an option other than Hidden.(See page 138.)

To turn Bluetooth on or off:

1. From the Bluetooth settings menu, select Enable/Disable.

2. Select Enable or Disable.

Bluetooth Settings:Voice PriorityVoice Priority allows you to choose the default device you want to usefor incoming and outgoing calls.

To set the voice priority:

1. From the Bluetooth settings menu, select Voice Priority.

2. Select Phone or Hands-free.

n Phone allows either your phone or hands-free devices to beused according to the device used to answer the call.

n Hands-free allows only hands-free devices to be used.

Bluetooth ProfilesAll the Bluetooth settings you configure are stored in your phone’sBluetooth user profile. Different profiles can be used for specificBluetooth functions.

v Headset Profile – This profile functions as a wireless ear jack.When an incoming call is received, the ringer can be heardthrough the headset. While using your phone, you can use theheadset instead of the phone by pushing a button on the headset,which has the same effect as inserting a jack into the phone.Increase or decrease the volume by using the volume key on theside of the phone.

v Hands-Free Profile – This profile functions as a wireless car kit.Incoming calls ring to the hands-free headset or device. Calls canbe received by pressing a button on the headset or device. Fordialing, four functions are supported: recent call dial, voice dial,speed dial, and number dial. Increase or decrease the volume byusing the volume key on the side of the phone.

v OPP: Object Push Profile – This profile uses the Generic ObjectExchange profile services to send data objects between devicesand can be used to exchange objects like music files, pictures,calendar (vCal), and business cards (vCard).

v FTP: File Transfer Profile – This profile allows you to transfer filesto or from other Bluetooth enabled devices.

v BPP: Basic Printing Profile – This profile enables simpler printingfrom your phone to a Bluetooth enabled printer.

v A2DP: Advanced Audio Distribution Profile – This profile allows youto transmit high quality stereo music from your phone to othercompatible accessories including Bluetooth stereo headsets.

Note: The A2DP profile supports the following file extensions: “aac,” “m4a,”“mp3,” “mp4,” “3gp,” “3gpp,” “3g2,” “3gp2,” “mid,” “pmd.” Streaming mediaand movie media are not supported.

v AVRCP: Audio/Video Remote Control Profile – This profile enablesyour phone to remotely control compatible accessories includingBluetooth stereo headsets. You can play, pause, stop, forward,reverse, fast forward, or rewind from a headset. (Playbackfunctions may vary among Bluetooth accessories.)

UPairing Bluetooth Devices

Paired DevicesThe Bluetooth pairing process allows you to establish trustedconnections between your phone and another Bluetooth device.When devices are paired, a passcode (PIN Code) is shared betweendevices, allowing for fast, secure connections while bypassing thediscovery and authentication process.

To pair your phone with another Bluetooth device:

1. Select > Tools > Bluetooth > Add New > Search. (Your phonewill display a list of discovered in-range Bluetooth devices.)

2. Select the device you wish to pair with and press .

3. Select Add to Trusted.

4. Enter the passcode and press . (When the owner of the otherdevice enters the same code, the pairing is complete.)

Waiting for RequestWaiting for Request helps to ensure the above pairing process when itdoes not go smoothly.

To allow your phone to be paired with another Bluetooth device:

Printing Data via BluetoothYou can print out your pictures, Contacts entries, business cards,calendar events, and messages stored on the phone. (SomeBluetooth-enabled printers may not support this feature.)

To print data via Bluetooth:

Responding to Call WaitingWhen you’re on a call, Call Waiting alerts you of incoming calls bysounding beeps. Your phone’s screen informs you that another call iscoming in and displays the caller’s phone number (if available).

To respond to an incoming call while you’re on a call:

Making a Three-Way CallWith Three-Way Calling, you can talk to two people at the same time.When using this feature, the normal airtime rates will be charged foreach of the two calls.

2. Once you have established the connection, press . (Thisputs the first caller on hold.)

3. Dial the second number you wish to call and press .

Net GuardWhen the Net Guard is enabled, a message will appear to confirmthat you want to connect to the Web. This feature helps you avoidaccidental connections. You can disable the Net Guard in the futureby selecting Always Auto-Connect when the Net Guard is displayed.

To change your Net Guard settings:

n On to activate the Net Guard.

Creating a Bookmark

Bookmarks allow you to store the address of your favourite Web sitesfor easy access at a later time.

To create a bookmark:

1. Launch the Web page you want to mark.

Note: Bookmarking a page does not store the page contents, just its address. Some pages cannot be bookmarked. Whether a particular Web page may bemarked is controlled by its creator.

To go to a particular Web site by entering a URL (Web site address):

WHAT WE WILL DOIf, during the warranty period, this Product fails to operate undernormal use and service, due to defects in design, materials, orworkmanship, SANYO authorised distributors (Telecom NZdistribution channel) or Telegistics Repair Limited in NZ where youpurchased the Product, will, at their option, either repair or replacethe Product in accordance with the terms and conditions stipulatedherein.
