New Work in the House – Program Guidelines 2

New Work in the House New Work in the House is a new initiative to support the commissioning, development, and presentation of regionally-relevant performance-based works that will be presented to audiences for the first time at a venue or festival event in regional Western Australia.

A total of $1 million from the Royalties for Regions-funded Creative Regions program has been allocated for distribution through New Work in House over the next two years.

Who can apply? Applications are open to WA artists, producers and arts organisations working in partnership with regional venues, or vice versa. Either party can be the primary applicant, provided they meet the following criteria:

The artist, arts company, organisation or festival that will develop and/or produce the work is:

based in Western Australia; OR

working in collaboration with Western Australian artists, artscompanies, organisations or festivals.

The venue that will premiere the work:

is located in regional WA;

Total funding available through this program will depend on:

the scale and complexity of the work

the number of artists and time needed to develop the work at thevenue and in the region

the range of community engagement activities (includingemployment opportunities for regional artists and arts workers); and

the cost of developing and commissioning the work through topremiere in a regional location.

Application Stages There are two stages to the application process.

Stage 1: The Pitch

To be invited to apply for a Development and/or Commissioning grant, you will first need to submit a pitch outlining the concept or artistic rationale, quality, regional relevance and other details that demonstrate the viability of your proposed new work. You need to get this to us no later than 4pm, 15 December.

Stage 2: Development and/or Commissioning

Stage 2 has two application pathways or categories: Development (2.1) or Commissioning (2.2). If your concept is strong and demonstrates sufficient potential, we will invite you to apply for either Development or Commissioning assistance depending on readiness for production and presentation.

2.1 Development If we like your concept but think it needs more work, we will invite you to submit an application through this category. If successful, a Development grant will give you time and resources to research, expand and refine your ideas, and collaborate with your partners to develop a detailed project plan for delivery of the new work. Once you’ve completed this process, we may invite you to submit an application for Commissioning of the new work (2.2)

2.2 Commissioning If we think your proposal is sufficiently advanced and ready to proceed to commissioning, you will be invited to submit an application through this category. You must be able to demonstrate that all key elements are in place, including commitment by the creative team, investors and presenting partners.

Taking it further Following successful commissioning and premiere of your new performance work, you can seek further assistance to tour the work through regional WA by applying for a grant through the Creative Regions Regional and Remote Touring Fund.
