A Note from the President

Wow…June! Summer is almost officially here – and the Friends have been busy fundraising. The most recent efforts have been productive – the Bake Sale was great – especially for a primary election. We tried something new with the Max and Erma fundraiser – and we will be banking $159.23!! Twenty-eight coupons were turned in – the total spent was $796.14 – so our 20% cut is $159.23. I hope everyone enjoyed the meal. I know I did! A REALLY BIG THANK YOU – to Miriam Douglas who did the coordination with Max and Erma’s – and to Pat Maxwell for printing the flyers! Also thanks to everyone who helped to get the word out and especially everyone who dined with Max and Erma on May 30th. I think we’ll try this again in the fall. We still need volunteers for a couple of key Committee Chairs: Fundraising, Membership and Public Relations are currently vacant. If you think you might be interested – please let me or any of the FOL officers know and we’ll put you to work and welcome you to the team. Please remember – we accept donations for the used book sale year round – just drop them off at the library! Join us for our next meeting in August! Have a busy, but safe Summer! ~Mary

Bricks There are currently orders for five bricks, which means that we need at least five more before our next brick order can be submitted to Bricks ‘R Us. While most bricks on our wall have been memorials for deceased loved ones, engraved bricks are also appro-priate for birthdays, anniversaries, organizations, and businesses. The 4” x 8” size allows space for three lines of engraving, with up to eighteen characters per line and costs $100. The 8” x 8” brick allows space for four lines of engraving, with up to eighteen characters per line and costs $250. Since Friends is a 501(c)(3) organization, the donation for bricks is tax deductible. Forms are along the wall to the right, above the copy machine in the library.

Sarris Candy Sales Update and Changes The good news is that between Jan 1 and May 23, 2013, Friends sold 1102 candy items; our profit was $551. The bad news is that Sarris Candy Company is discontinuing the fundraiser program from which we’ve benefited. We’re considering how to best replace this worthwhile program.

Election Day Bake Sale You did it again! Bakers, callers, cashiers, packers – all helped us to earn $427.50, plus an additional $22 in Sarris Candy sales, toward our annual donation of $8,000 to Scott Library. There were cash donations of $33, some in lieu of baking, but most from customers who wanted to show additional support for the library. In Spring 2012, we earned $347.95, so our 2013 total is all the more impres-sive for a day on which voter turnout was anything but.

Volunteers

Volunteers were at the ready for the Election Day Bake Sale. The twelve members of Ruth Schreiber’s Phone Chain Committee re-minded our talented bakers that hungry customers were looking for-ward to their baked goods. Our bakers came through with a wide as-sortment of goodies. Seven volunteers packed and priced on Monday evening and ten volunteers staffed the table on Election Day. Friends will be looking for your help at the Used Book Sale in September. Sign-up sheets will be on the Friends bulletin board by August 19. In October our booth at Octoberfest and table at Wal-Mart will give additional opportunities to volunteer. More details will appear in the September newsletter.

FRIEND’S MEMBERSHP The Friends of Scott Township Public Library thank all of our members for your support as members as well as your support of our fundraisers. Recently we had a very successful fundraiser at Max & Erma’s restaurant, which was possible only through the continued concern and support of loyal members, friends and families like you. The Friends are committed to raise additional funds for non-budgeted materials and programming for adults and children. Volunteers spend many hours helping the staff making it possible for your Scott Library to provide you with the very best service. Membership extends for one year from the date of your application. If you are uncertain of your expiration date, please check the date on your newsletter address label.
