Mr Porter has had over 20 years’ experience as a leader and a teacher, including positions overseas. Prior to this position, Mr Porter was Acting Principal of Sebastopol College and Kaniva P-12. Mr Porter has contributed significantly to major initiatives in teaching and learning throughout his years and is very enthusiastic about his new role. “I am very excited about having the opportunity to be leading such a great little country school that has excellent teachers and facilities for students. We have seen the number of students steadily increasing over the last 12 months and this has convinced me that our focus on literacy and numeracy is what families are looking for.” While Mr Porter has really pushed academic rigor in the classroom he has also made sure that students have a well-rounded high quality education. This includes maintaining a full range of VCE and VET options for senior students. He has established exciting and engaging camps and excursions at all year levels, including an international exchange program to India. Mr Porter values the schools music, performing arts and kitchen garden curriculum, as well as the extensive sports program. With a new Principal, over 20 new enrolments and a facelift of the old buildings, Lake Bolac P-12 College has had a very encouraging start to the year. This term we welcome 14 kinder kids (our 2016 Prep class) who will start their transition program with us one day a week. This great transition program is run with Lake Bolac and District Kindergarten and enables the children to familiarise themselves with our teachers, students and facilities before they start school with us. By Term 4, one day a week, the children spend the morning at kinder and the afternoon at school and then they catch the school bus home at 3.30pm. Lake Bolac College is looking forward to a very bright future for both the students and the community.
