OPENING NIGHT NOTES: • The Hornets are 8-10 all-time in season openers, including a 7-7 mark at home and a 1-3 record on the road. • Before last season’s home opening 106-91 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, the Hornets had won their last five season

openers. • Only five players from the current roster (David West, Chris Paul, Brandon Bass, Rasual Butler and Desmond Mason) were

on the opening night roster for the Hornets last season. • Dell Curry hit for a Hornets’ opening night high 38 points on 11/2/96 vs. TOR, while Michael Jordan has scored the most

points (42, 11/3/95) by an opponent in an opener. • Hornets Assistant Coach Kenny Gattison holds the Hornets record for rebounds on opening night with 18 11/1/91 at BOS. • Hornets Assistant Coach Darrell Walker dished out the fourth-most assists by an opponent on opening night with eight

11/3/89 as a member of the Washington Wizards. • The Hornets have scored 100 points or more in four of their last seven openers. • The Hornets have held their opponents to less than 100 points in nine of the last 10 openers. • The Hornets have gone to overtime in their season opener three times, winning once (2003-04 vs. ATL). PRESEASON NOTES: • The Hornets are giving up 105.3 points, while scoring an average of 96.0 points in six preseason outings…they are also

being outshot .506-.445 percent and outrebounded 42.3-38.2. • Peja Stojakovic is averaging the most minutes per game (26.8) on the team. • On October 14th, every Hornets player manned a water station and cheered on more than 13,000 runners at the Oklahoma

City Race for the Cure. • Jannero Pargo scored 17 points and dished out 10 assists 10/19 at GSW…although preseason stats do not count, Pargo

would have recorded his first NBA double-double. • Linton Johnson has provided a nice spark for the Hornets this preseason, averaging 9.5 ppg and 7.7 rpg…per 48 minutes it

equals out to an average of 17.8 ppg and 14.3 rpg…his impact translated into a spot in the starting lineup for two games (10/19 at GSW, 10/22 at LAL), where he averaged 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds.

• Through six games, Chris Paul has 17 more assists (44) than any of his teammates. • Pargo’s 23 points (9-13 FG) at MIA on 10/17 is 10 more points than last season’s third string point guard’s (Moochie Norris)

season-high. PRESEASON RESULTS: The Hornets finished the preseason with a 2-6 record…the Hornets have an all-time preseason record of 63-80 (.441)--that includes a home record of 25-11 (.694), a road record of 9-31 (.225) and a record of 28-38 (.418) at neutral sites (such as this year’s games in Little Rock and Bossier City). DEFENSE KEY TO WINS IN PRESEASON: The Hornets are expected to be an up-tempo, fast-breaking team this season…however, during the preseason, their defense was the key to a win or a loss…in the two wins, the Hornets gave up just 81 points compared to 110.2 points in the five losses…the below chart further illustrates the note. PEJA STARTING TO GET COMFORTABLE: Peja Stojakovic struggled through his first two preseason games, but looked a lot more comfortable out on the court with his new teammates in the last three games of the preseason…the below chart shows his numbers from his first two games compared to his last three games. GAMES PTS FG’s 10/17, 10/19 6.5 4-20 (.200) 10/20, 10/22, 10/24 15.3 20-43 (.465) THREE-POINT SPECIALIST: One of the Hornets’ main needs last season was a player who could consistently knock down an outside shot…with the trade to get Peja Stojakovic, the Hornets got one of the best in NBA history in that category…over the last seven seasons, Stojakovic and Seattle’s Ray Allen are the only two NBA players to make at least 100 three-pointers in each season. SLOW OFF-SEASON? WE DON’T NEED NO STINKING SLOW OFF-SEASON!: The New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets had one goal in mind this off-season, to get better as a basketball team...from all reviews, they did just that…the below chart shows the various moves the Hornets made during the busy off-season and why many NBA insiders project the Hornets as a playoff team.

BIGGEST TURNAROUND IN THE NBA: Below is a list of the biggest turnarounds in the NBA from the past two seasons. # of Games Improved

+20 NO/Okla. City Hornets 38-44 18-64 +15 Utah Jazz 41-41 26-56 +13 Atlanta Hawks 26-56 13-69 +11 Los Angeles Lakers 45-37 34-48 +10 Detroit Pistons 64-18 54-28 +10 Los Angeles Clippers 47-35 37-45 +10 Milwaukee Bucks 40-42 30-52 RECORD SETTING YEAR FOR CP3: 2005-06 rookie of the year Chris Paul blazed onto the NBA scene last season…Paul set his share of records along the way during the 2005-06 season…below are a few of the records and marks he set.

• CP3 led the NBA in total steals, making him the second rookie in NBA history to lead the NBA in total steals…Brevin Knight accomplished the feat in 1997-98.

• Chris Paul has captured the Western Conference Rookie of the Month award each month this season…if he is named the April award winner, it will mark the fifth time in NBA history a player has captured the award in every month of his rookie season…Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James (2002-03), Tim Duncan (1997-98) and David Robinson (1989-90) won the award every month.

• Chris Paul set Hornets rookie records for: -Most Assists in a season and game. -Highest Free Throw Percentage for a season. -Most Free Throws made and attempted in a game. -Most Steals in a season and game.

• Paul scored 24 points with 12 rebounds and 12 assists 4/2 at TOR, to become the first rookie with triple-12s since Jay Williams did it for the Bulls in 2002…the only other active players to have done so as rookies were Steve Francis, Antoine Walker, and Chris Webber…also became the first Hornet rookie to record a triple-double.

• First rookie to record at least 13 assists in three straight games (2/1 vs. CHI, 2/4 vs. LAL, 2/6 at NJN) since Jason Kidd (1994).

• Chris Paul recorded 21 games of 10+ assists this season…over the last 10 years, the only other rookies with at least 20 games of 10 or more assists were Brevin Knight (26 in 1997-1998) and Jamaal Tinsley (21 in 2001-2002).

• Chris Paul had 17 points, 11 rebounds, 16 assists and six steals in the Hornets' overtime victory 4/5 vs. GSW…since 1973-74, when the NBA began keeping track of steals, only one other player reached those levels in each of those four categories in the same game, that was Magic Johnson…he also needed overtime to do it (33 points, 15 rebounds, 17 assists and six steals vs. Denver on March 29, 1981).

CP3 HAD ONE OF THE BEST ROOKIE SEASONS IN HISTORY: Most NBA fans and insiders knew that Chris Paul was a lock for rookie of the year and that he had a great rookie season…but most don’t know just how remarkable it was…Paul’s Player Efficiency Rating (PER) was an astonishing 22.14…the PER is a rating that assigns various values to different statistics accumulated by players on a per-minute basis, and is regarded by most experts as the most accurate statistical estimate of a player’s performance…PER was tracked starting in the 1977-78 season, when the NBA first kept track of turnovers…below is a chart that shows you how remarkable of a first NBA season CP is having…since the start of the decade, only three players—Elton Brand (20.63), Yao Ming (20.59) and Marquis Daniels (20.10)—have posted PER’s north of 20.0…only one 20-year old in NBA history has a better PER than CP, his name is LeBron James, who had a 25.67 PER last season…another startling number is how many rookie point guards dating back to 1977-78 have had a PER better than CP3: none…Magic Johnson is the only PG to have a PER better than 20.0 (20.63).

Paul's rookie season stacks up well when compared with those of other rookie guards in NBA history…very well…shockingly well…let's cut right to the chase…here's a complete list of every guard in NBA history to post a better rookie PER than Paul's:

1. Oscar Robertson 2. Michael Jordan

Yes, that is the whole list. MJ and the Big O. In terms of PER, Paul is the best rookie guard in two decades and the best rookie point guard in 45 years.
