The second places him or her at the center of the astrological overspace corresponding to the physical universe, and isn’t essentially very different from the first. However, the last three, which all use the new English-language 16-Sephiroth Qaballah* as a stabilizing mechanism,  place the Operator respectively (1) on the Tree of Life above Tiphareth and below  Kether ; (2) completely above the Tree of Life, in the Inner Planes equivalent of interstellar space; and (3) completely below it, below Malkuth, in an alternate universe. These last three are especially useful for exploring aspects of reality that were unknown or only dimly conceived of and understood before the turn of this century, and can be especially useful to those who, trained as engineers, physicists, astronomers, astronauts, astrophysicists, planetary scientists, or in the biological and/or social sciences, also wish to  prepare themselves spiritually for whatever they might encounter in their chosen fields and professions. *See Volume 3, Part 2, Chapter 1, “Magickal Applications of the New 16-Sephiroth English-language Qaballah,” for a full description of this extension of traditional Qaballah. Introduction

In this section, five versions of the Lesser and Greater Pentagram Rituals are given. The first is thestandard one, identical to the Golden Dawn and O.T.O. ( Liber O) versions of the ritual, which is basedupon traditional Qaballah. The second is an astrological variant of that ritual. As for the last three, theuniverse which they are constructed for incorporates the 16-Sephiroth Tree of Life and the new English-

language Qaballah based upon the ASCII symbol lexicon (see Chapter 1 of Part 2 of Volume 3 of thiswork, “Magickal Applications of the New 16-Sephiroth English-language Qaballah”).The first of these Pentagram rituals, which are standard in the Western Ceremonial tradition,

establishes the Operator in the higher realms of the Astral Light, below Tiphareth and above Yesod on thetraditional Tree of Life. The second places him or her at the center of the astrological overspacecorresponding to the physical universe, and isn’t essentially very different from the first. However, thelast three, which all use the new English-language 16-Sephiroth Qaballah* as a stabilizing mechanism,

  place the Operator respectively (1) on the Tree of Life above Tiphareth and below  Kether ; (2)completely above the Tree of Life, in the Inner Planes equivalent of interstellar space; and (3)completely below it, below Malkuth, in an alternate universe. These last three are especially useful for exploring aspects of reality that were unknown or only dimly conceived of and understood before the turnof this century, and can be especially useful to those who, trained as engineers, physicists, astronomers,astronauts, astrophysicists, planetary scientists, or in the biological and/or social sciences, also wish to

 prepare themselves spiritually for whatever they might encounter in their chosen fields and professions.

The Pentagrams inscribed by the Operator during the course of these rituals are identical to thoseused in the Greater Pentagram Ritual of the Golden Dawn. (Quintessence? chi? yang?), of Spirit. Their format is also that of the Golden Dawn rituals, withmodifications as appropriate. The Calls, i.e., Hebraic or Enochian Words of Power which are vibrated(resonantly chanted or intoned) at various places in the ritual, are pronounced identically wherever theyappear – that is, the pronunciation of a given Call doesn’t vary from one place to another in any of theserituals. (See below.)

The Pentagram rituals, especially the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, are among the firstthings which the Magickal neophyte should learn, along with the Ritual of the Rose-Cross (the latter,

which is further discussed in a separate chapter, is also used for other reasons, as a sort of “house-cleaning” or “damage-control” ritual after employment of a Pentagram ritual). In their banishing forms,they are often absolutely necessary for self-defense; in fact, they can literally save life and soul, and doso when nothing else has any effect – as I can testify from my own experience. So these rituals should belearned first, before any others, and learned by heart –  over learned so thoroughly that the student finallycan do them in his or her sleep.

In fact, I myself have literally done just that (to my vast surprise, the first time I had a nocturnaldemonstration of my success at such efforts). As a result, I have therefore been able to use them againstattacks by the sorts of things that turn up in one’s worst nightmares – the sorts of attacks in which you areall too excruciatingly aware that if you don’t somehow either chase off whatever it is or else wake up at once, you will be completely destroyed by it, body and soul, then damned forever. Or worse.

However, by overlearning the Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram to exhaustion, I have thereafter used it reflexively, nearly unconsciously, letter-perfect when necessary, both waking and sleeping.

 Anyone can do this – all it takes is practice. And everyone who desires to make a career in any kind inany of the occult or esoteric fields should do so, for exactly the same reason that anyone who wants tomake a career of flying had damned well better learn how to pack, wear, and deploy a parachute.

As soon as the aspirant begins to practice any Hermetic Art or Science, especially Magick, it is as if one had set up a giant neon sign on the Inner Planes signaling to all and sundry, near and far: “Here it is

 – have we got a special for  you! Nice, fresh, tender, juicy young spirit, with all the trimmings!”Something like the creation of a new, lovely, green lawn, completely landscaped and appointed, in aneighborhood full of large, ill-trained, boisterous, and well-fed dogs. The Banishing Ritual of thePentagram is a sort of esoteric version of a spray-cannister loaded with pepper-spray combined with ashotgun loaded with rock salt . . .

The banishing forms of the Pentagram ritual are also used Magickally in exactly the same way thatone polices an area in which one plans to work or play, in order to avoid such accidents as stepping on anail, and cleans it up again before leaving it, as courtesy to others and to avoid degrading theenvironment. Thus for the sake of consideration of others as well as that of bodily and spiritual safety, it

is imperative that of all the things the aspirant will ever learn in Magick, he or she should learn thePentagram rituals first and best. Nota bene: There is a fairly easy way to remember how the Pentagrams in these rituals are traced, in

their invoking and banishing forms. As Francis King and Stephen Skinner put it, in their Techniques of  High Magic: A Manual of Self-Initiation (New York: Destiny Books, 1981):

From [the five] elemental points [of the pentagram, marked here by “I,” “H 1 ,”“Sh,” “V,” and “H 2 ,”] are derived the different pentagrams. All invoking pentagramsare drawn towards the point of the element being invoked. All banishing pentagramsare drawn away from the point of the element being banished. The exceptions are thePentagrams of Spirit which operate along the lines marked ‘active’ and ‘passive’ on thediagram [ see above]. For this reason there are  four  possible Spirit pentagrams. The

 passive being used in conjunction with the passive elements, water and earth, whilst theactive pentagrams are used in conjunction with the active elements, fire and air.

where “Sh” (standing for the Hebrew letter Shin) is associated with the Quintessential Element Spirit ; “I”(Yod ) with the Element  Fire; “H1” ( Heh) with Water; “V” (Vav) with Air ; and “H2” ( Heh) with Earth.In addition, tracing counterclockwise around the Pentagram, beginning with the lower right-hand point(“I”), the Hebrew name IHShUA, “Yeshua,” which we usually render as either “Joshua,” “Jesse,” or “Jesus,” is traced out; this represents God made manifest in Creation.

For purposes of visualization, both to aid in reconstruction of the Pentagram Ritual from first principles and also to establish the Pentagrams the more firmly on the Inner Planes, the Aces and CourtCards of the Tarot can be assigned to the points of the various Pentagrams in the following way.

Aces correspond to Spirit, and thus to the top point of the Pentagram; Knights to Fire, and thus tothe bottom right point; Queens, to Water, and the upper right point; Kings or Princes, to Air, and theupper left point; and Pages or Princesses, to Earth, and the lower left point.

On the other hand, the Suit of Wands or Staves corresponds to Fire; Cups, to Water; Swords, to Air;and Pentacles, Discs, or Coins, to Earth.

Thus, for example, the upper right point of the Pentagram of Earth would correspond to the Queen(upper right point) of Pentacles/Coins/Discs (Earth). The lower left point of the Pentagram of Fire wouldcorrespond to the Page (or Princess) (lower left point) of Wands (Fire). And so on.

C.2.D.2.A. The Golden Dawn Pentagram Ritual Format

The Pentagram Rituals, as developed by the Golden Dawn, are based upon the Tree of Life. In thisstandard form of the Pentagram rituals, the practitioner imagines him- or herself to be positioned at the

 juncture of Key 25 (Samekh, connecting Sephirah 6, Tiphareth, with Sephirah 9, Yesod ) and Key 27( Peh, connecting S . 8,  Hod , with S . 7,  Netzach), and therefore completely above the bulk of Qlipphotic,

 pernicious influences, which are mostly confined to the sub-Lunar Spheres, i.e., below S . 9, Yesod , on theTree of Life. Before the practitioner is Tiphareth; behind him/her is Yesod ; to his/her left is Hod ; andto his/her right is  Netzach. This situation is established by the ritual inscription and visualization of Pentagrams in the positions of these four  Sephiroth, and visualization of the Six-Rayed Star, also in aQaballistic mode, the center of which coincides with the center of mass of the practitioner.

This form of the Pentagram ritual is in most ways similar to the one given below, in Section2.D.2.B., which are based upon an astrological model, with certain modifications. These have to do witha) the Element assigned to any particular Quarter of the compass; b) the Archangel assigned to thatQuarter; c) the astrological entity assigned to it; d) visualization of the Pentagrams assigned to theQuarters; and e) visualizations of the Six-Rayed Star. Planets and Lights are assigned to the Quarters,rather than Signs and Constellations, as in the Golden Dawn version; the Elements are associated withthe Quarters in a somewhat different way than they are in the Golden Dawn version, given above; andthe visualization methods can be quite different. The visualization techniques described in Section2.D.2.B. assign the Court Cards and the Ace of a given Element to the Pentagram that corresponds to that

Element. But the visual mnemonic from the Tarot for the Qaballistic, i.e., Planetary assignments of thePentagrams correlates the cards of the Lower Arcana and a Trump with each Pentagram, as follows.The cards of the Lower Arcana that have the same number as that of the Sephirah of the Planet or 

Light associated with the Pentagram in question are assigned to the lateral points of the Pentagram because the Qaballistic Key with which they are associated represents the Sphere of Influence or Orbit of that body, and thus the Elemental Realms of that Sphere. E.g., the Five of Wands is associated with thelower right point of the Pentagram associated with Mars, the Five of Cups with its upper right point, theFive of Swords with its upper left point, and the Five of Coins/Discs/Pentacles with its lower left point.On the other hand, the Tarot Trump associated with that same Planet or Light is assigned to the apex, or Point of Spirit, of the Pentagram, because the Qaballistic Key and Hebrew letter with which it is

coordinated represent the essential Spirit or intelligence of that body, and thus the Quintessence andRuling Lord of that Sphere. E.g. Trump XVI, The Tower , which is associated with Mars, is assigned tothe apex of the Pentagram of Mars.

For another example, let’s look at the Pentagram associated with the Sun. In the East is the Sun. HisArchangel is Raphael, and the Element assigned to this Quarter is Air. The Pentagram inscribed in theEastern Quarter may of course be visualized in terms of assignment to the Airy realm, as describedabove, with the Knight of Swords assigned to its lower-right point; the Queen of Swords to its upper-

right point; the Ace of Words, to its apex; the King or Prince of Words to its upper-right point; and thePage or Princess of Swords to its lower-right point.

But it might also, under some circumstances, be more useful to visualize this Pentagram instead interms of the Qaballistic coordinates of Sol, Who is assigned to Sephirah 6, Tiphareth, and Key 30,  Resh,which connects  Hod with Yesod . The corresponding Tarot cards are the Sixes of the Lower Arcana andTrump XIX, The Sun. So the Six of Wands may be assigned to this Pentagram’s lower-right point; theSix of Cups, to its upper-right point; Trump XIX to its apex, the Point of Spirit; the Six of Swords, to itsupper-left point; and the Six of Discs/Coins/Pentacles to its lower-left point. In fact, I have found in

 practice that such a visualization can be even more potent than that utilizing the Court Cards and the Aceassociated with a given Pentagram. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the Trump and the cards of theLower Arcana associated with the Planet or Light in question are closer in spirit to the nature of the bodythey represent than are the Court Cards and the Ace of the Element associated with it. The Element is,after all, only one of four included in the Sphere of Influence of that body, and is ruled by it. So a closesymbolic representation of that Planet or Light itself seems to have more power on the Inner Planes thandoes that of whatever Element is in this case associated with it.

Similarly, the other three Quarters have Planetary and Elemental assignments as follows, thevisualizations of their Pentagrams similar to that used for the East in this version of the Pentagram ritual:

At the South is Venus, to Whom are assigned the Element Fire and the Archangel Michael. Her Pentagram is visualized in terms of Key 7 ( Sephirah 7,  Netzach) and 14 ( Daleth, connecting S . 2,Chokmah, to S . 3,  Binah) and their associated Tarot cards (respectively, the four Sevens and Trump III,The Empress). To the lower-right point of Her Pentagram is assigned the Seven of Wands; to its upper-right point, the Seven of Cups; to the apex, Trump III; to the upper-left point, the Seven of Swords; andto the lower-left point, the Seven of Discs/Cups/Pentacles.

In the West is Luna, to Whom the Archangel Gabriel and the Element Water are assigned. Her Pentagram is visualized in terms of Keys 9 (S . 9, Yesod ) and 13 (Gimel , connecting S . 6, Tiphareth and S .1, Kether and their associated Tarot cards (respectively the four Nines and Trump II, The High Priestess).To the lower-right point of Her Pentagram is assigned the Nine of Wands; to its upper-right point, the

 Nine of Cups; to its apex, Trump II; to its upper-right point, the Nine of Words; and to its lower-left point, the Nine of Discs.At the North is Mercury, to Whom are assigned the Element Earth and the Archangel Auriel. His

Pentagram is visualized in terms of Keys 8 (S . 8,  Hod ) and 12 ( Beth, connecting S . 1,  Kether , with S . 3, Binah) and their associated Tarot cards (respectively, the four Eights and Trump I, variously titled TheMagus, The Juggler , and The Magician). To the lower-right point of His Pentagram is assigned the Eightof Wands; to its upper-right point, the Eight of Cups; to its apex, Trump I; to its upper-left point, theEight of Swords; and to its lower-left point, the Eight of Discs.

Finally, the Six-Rayed Star has assigned to its points Tarot Trumps corresponding to Planets whichare Qaballistically associated with those points. When this Star is visualized as the Unicursal Hexagram,completely contained in a horizontal plane running through the practitioner’s navel, two of its points lieon the East-West axis. To the Easternmost of these points is assigned Trump XXI, The World  or TheUniverse, corresponding to Saturn, and to the Westernmost is assigned Trump II, The High Priestess,corresponding to Luna. The South-East point has assigned to it Trump X,  Fortune, for Jupiter; the

South-West point, Trump III, The Empress, for Venus; the North-East point, Trump XVI, The Tower , for Mars; the North-West point, Trump I, The Magus, for Mercury; and in the center, at the pointcorresponding to the Operator’s navel, is Trump XIX, The Sun, for Sol.

In this standard ritual, the Trumps for Jupiter and Venus lie to the right of the Operator, who facesEast, because Their associated Sephiroth, respectively Chesed  and  Netzach, are located on the Right-Hand Pillar of Mercy of the Tree of Life. Likewise the Trumps for Mars and Mercury lie to theOperator’s left, since Their associated Sephiroth are located on the Tree of Life’s Left-Hand Pillar of Severity. Those for Luna and Saturn determine an East-West axis which passes through the practitioner’snavel; fittingly, Their associated Sephiroth, Yesod  and  Da’ath, are located on the Middle Pillar of

Consciousness of the Tree of Life. And the point for Sol of course lies at the center of all, symbolizingHis central importance in the existence of all Earthly life, including ourselves.

*If the practitioner finds it desirable, he or she can imagine, along with or in place of these Trumps, theassociated cards of the Lower Arcana that go with these Planets and Their Sephiroth. E.g., the four 

 Nines would be associated with Luna and the West; the four Fours with Jupiter and the South-East;and so on. In this case, one would use the four Threes for Saturn and the East.

One other difference between this version of the Pentagram Ritual and the one given in the nextsection of this chapter has to do with the Invocation of the Archangels. This becomes self-evident in thetext, so an explanation of it here isn’t necessary.

Other than these assignments of the Quarters and the technique for their visualization, this version of the Pentagram ritual doesn’t differ from the one given in the following section, which I developed for myown use. Which of the two versions works best for a given practitioner, the one given here or that givenin the following section, depends upon his or her personal psychology, cultural background, and relatedfactors. I suggest experimentation with the banishing forms of both versions to see which one works bestfor banishing, then adaptation of that form to invoking forms as well, for both Lesser and Greater Pentagram rituals. In the banishing form, none of the versions of the Pentagram ritual given here can do

harm, so it is always useful to experiment with the banishing forms before going on to any other of their forms.  Nota bene: In either version, concerning the visualization of the Six-Rayed Star, this can be

imagined as three rays intersecting at right angles through a point corresponding to the practitioner’snavel, one horizontal ray running East-West, another running North-South, and a vertical one, asdescribed above. In this case, Saturn and His associated Tarot cards should be visualized as being abovethe Operator, and Luna and Her cards, below him or her. The points for Jupiter, Mars, Sol, Venus andMercury are the same as in the preceding version, lying in the same horizontal plane that intersects the

 practitioner’s navel.

Standing at the center of the Circle, face East. Extend the Weapon straight out to the East. Imaginethat a line of blue-white, fiery light extends from its point to a point due East at infinity. Trace theInvoking Pentagram of Air in the East:

 For around me flames the Pentagram – 

(Here, imagine that around you is a gigantic Pentagram traced in blue-white fire, your head at its apex,the tips of your extended limbs coinciding with its lateral points.)

 And in the column stands the Six-Rayed Star .

C.D.2.B.1. An Astrologically-Based Variant of the Golden Dawn Rituals

The formats of the Hermetic subroutines presented below are similar but not identical to those usedroutinely for the same purposes in the Golden Dawn and related rituals that have been described above.

 Notice that in the Golden Dawn version of the Greater Pentagram Rituals, Leo/Fire is at the South, notthe West as in the following ritual, while Scorpio/Water in the Golden Dawn version is in the West,whereas here it is in the South. The original Golden Dawn forms upon which the following rituals are

 based were based upon the architecture of the Tree of Life and tailored to operate optimally within theMagickal influences of the environment provided for the Magickian in England, the home base of theGolden Dawn. The following ritual are designed to work in as many human cultures and other ecologicalsystems as possible. Since we all have the sky and outer space in common, regardless of our country or 

geographical location, the rituals given below are geared to the longitudes of the Zodiacal Constellationsas measured anywhere on Earth at dawn on the Spring Equinox during the new Aeon of Horus,* i.e., theConstellation Aquarius rising, Scorpio at the Zenith (due South), Leo at the West, and Taurus at the

 Nadir (due North).

*Spanning approximately the period 1904-4100 e.v.

This is similar to the way in which the Golden Dawn version of the Lesser Pentagram Ritual has  been reworked to give the version presented below. In the following, regardless of the originalassignment of Elements to Quarters, the Quarters are geared to the Signs of Tropical astrology,* as their longitudes can be measured anywhere on Earth at dawn on the Spring Equinox, with Aries ascending(rising in the East); Capricorn on the M.C. (Midheaven or Zenith, due South); Libra descending (in the

West); and Cancer at the Nadir (due North.).

*The Signs are not identical to the Constellations. The latter are patterns of Stars in the heavens, whereasthe former are 30-degree longitudinal segments of the sky that begin at the line of celestial longitudeupon which the Sun stands at the first moment of Spring (when His declination is 0ºs, exactly on thecelestial equator, increasing in a Northern direction – at the Autumnal Equinox, His declination isagain 0ºs, but increasing in a Southern direction), and continue East around the sky in sectionsexactly 30ºs of celestial longitude wide (as measured along the celestial equator). About 2,500 yearsago the Signs corresponded to the belt of twelve Constellations that lie along the Ecliptic, called the

Zodiac, such that the first degree of the Sign Aries – the Sun’s celestial longitude at dawn on the firstday of Spring – corresponded to the first degree of the Constellation Aries. But now (1995 e.v.), dueto the precession of the Equinoxes and the consequent apparent drift of the Stars Eastward throughthe heavens, the first degree of the Sign Aries corresponds to about 28ºs of the ConstellationAquarius, which group of Stars is directly behind the Sun in the sky at that time, hidden from us bySol.

The following rituals consciously recreate and stabilize the Magickian’s psychospiritual universe.The sphere is the most perfect solid form; the spherical Heavens are thus as close to a physical mirror of God as we have. So all the Hermetic languages and disciplines, from Qaballah through the various formsof divination to Magick and Alchemy, are grounded in astrology, the study of the Heavens as a reflectionof the ecological dynamics of the Inner Planes and the limitations upon and opportunities for theMagickian which their continuous mutations bring about.

This version of these most basic Magickal subroutines thus serves to recreate for the Magickian theultimate foundation of the Magickal worlds, the Heavens as the Mirror of God. The Lesser PentagramRitual clears out all extraneous, pre-existent influences from those Inner Heavens much as a blackboarderaser wipes off all the chalk-marks on the blackboard to make space to write upon it legibly. Inaddition, it also invokes the Elemental aspects of the Signs – the Seasons – of the year. The Greater Pentagram Ritual then invokes the Archangels of the Quarters in relation to the Stars, coordinating theQuarters with the Constellations as these now stand in the Heavens at dawn on the Vernal Equinox.

The Lesser Pentagram Ritual thus purifies the Inner Heavens of unwanted Qlippoth of Seasonalinfluences that may have accumulated in the workplace prior to the ritual, and gears the biophysicaldynamics of the Operator’s body and spirit to the ebb and flow of Seasonal and diurnal energies. TheGreater Pentagram actually invokes Stellar Powers, calling up the four Archangels of the Quarters whoare represented by the four Royal Stars or Watchers of the Heavens of the Persians: Fomalhaut ( Fom al 

 Haut , Mouth of the Fish), between the Constellations Aquarius and Pisces, now rising in the East at dawnin early Spring; Antares (Anti-Ares, Rival of Mars), Shiloh, or Cor Scorpio (Heart of the Scorpion), inthe Constellation Scorpio, now in the South at dawn in Spring; Regulus, or Cor Leonis (Heart of theLion) in the Constellation Leo, now setting at Sunrise on the Vernal Equinox; and Aldebaran ( Al 

 Dabaran, the Follower) in the Constellation Taurus, in the North at dawn in early Spring.Whereas the Pentagram Rituals are used to call up Stellar energies, either directly, as in the Greater 

Pentagram Rituals, or indirectly, via the Seasons (whose “gear” with the Zodiac is continuously mutating

at the rate of 50 seconds of arc per year Westward drift relative to the Stars), as in the Lesser PentagramRitual, the  Hexagram Rituals, used for Planetary Invocations, thus also recall the Tree of Life and theHuman Body and Spirit as these are mapped on the Tree of Life. So the Pentagram Rituals are useful for Seasonal, Elemental, and Stellar Invocations and Evocations, while the Hexagram Rituals are useful for Planetary Rituals of all kinds. In addition, since the Outer Planets, Saturn through Pluto, are eachrespectively associated with the Elements Earth, Air, Water and Fire, a Hexagram Ritual employing theHexagrams of one of these four Planets can also be used to Invoke or Evoke its associated Element.

In the following ritual forms, the Invoking and Banishing Forms of the four Pentagrams of theElements and the Active and Passive Pentagrams of Spirit are exactly as traced in the Qaballistic versionsof them given in the preceding subsection (2.D.2.B), above.

 Nota bene: Theoretically, not only can the Pentagram and Hexagram Rituals, as developed here, beused anywhere on Earth, they could also be used anywhere in our Galaxy, the Milky Way. In that case,ritual East and West would be respectively identical with Galactic East and West, ritual South being 90ºsclockwise around the periphery of the Milky Way from East, ritual North being 90ºs clockwise around its

 periphery from West. Also, for such off-Planet Workings, “up” would be equivalent to Galactic Northand “down” to Galactic South.

right with you, as well, and, in doing so, traces a permanent arc of blue-white light at infinity deosil fromthe East point. Stop when you are facing due South. With the Weapon, trace the Invoking Pentagram of Earth. But these letters can also be pronounced ,* and that is how the Calls of these Pentagrams are determined.For example, in the case of the Invoking Pentagram of Fire, which, as shown above, is traced from Shinto Yod  to  Heh-1 to  Heh-2 back to Shin again. But the sequence “Sh-I-V-H-H-Sh” also represents the

 phonetic spelling in Hebrew letters of something which, if it were a Hebrew word, would be pronouncedsomething like “Shiv-e-hash” or “Shi-u-hesh.” Similarly, all the tracing listed in the table above can be

 pronounced – spoken or sung aloud – assuming that they are also phonetic spellings in Hebrew letters of Calls.**

*H1 and H2 have exactly the same pronunciation. The only difference between them is the position of each on the Pentagram relative to that of the other.

**Those readers who are interested may wish to experiment to determine which vocal renderings of theRoman transliterations of the Hebrew letters listed above are the best pronunciations for Magickal

 purposes. Remember that vowels are to be inserted between the [capitalized] Roman representationsof Hebrew letters where necessary to make pronunciation possible, though these vowels should bekept to a minimum. Also Vav = V can be variously pronounced as “U,” “V,” and “F”; Yod = I, as“I,” “J,” or “Y”; and  Heh = H as either “H” or “E.” In all cases where these may be rendered asvowels, whether the vowels are long, short, Roman, or Latin (e.g., the Roman long “E” is like the“E” in “meet,” whereas the Latin long “E” is pronounced like “EY” in “whey”), is something thatneeds to be worked out by experiment.

The Hexagram is also used in Magick (see section NM0C2.E of this chapter, following this one).Whereas the Pentagram is used for dealing with Elemental and Stellar Powers and spirits, including thoseassociated with the Signs and Constellations, the Hexagram is used for Planetary ones, including thoseassociated with Earth as a Planet rather than as an Element. However, it is recommended that you select those vowels you find easiest to use for this purpose and which, if anything, add to the resonance and power of your voice as you make the Call.)After you’ve settled on a choice of vowels to make this string of consonants into a pronounceable

Magickal “word,” you should then practice,  practice, PRACTICE saying this “word” until you can use itin your sleep, and have no trouble at all remembering it. This is true of all these Calls which, like the

  physical inscription of the figures of the Hexagrams and Pentagrams, should be over-learned sothoroughly that, short of major brain-damage, you’ll be able to recall them at need without any effort.

 Nota bene: This method of representing a lineal figure by means of a purely vocalized Call can beextended to any graphic which can be represented as a finite set of points, each of which has associatedwith it a unique letter of some alphabet. The interested reader may wish to experiment along those lines.

C.2.D.2.C. The Supernal Pentagram Ritual

1. The Lesser Supernal Pentagram Ritual

During the course of this ritual, the Operator establishes him- or herself at the intersection of theSecond Plane of the Tree of Life and the Path associated with Key 13, the Path associated with the

Hebrew letter  Gimel  and Tarot Trump III, The High Priestess, connecting Sephirah 1,  Kether , withSephirah 6, Tiphareth. At the same time, he or she also inscribes a total of six Pentagrams abouthim-/herself: one directly above, one directly below, and the other four at the four Cross-Quarters of theSecond Plane.

The Second Plane of the Tree of Life contains the traditional Sephiroth Chokmah (2) and Binah (3),connected by the Path associated with Key 14, the Hebrew letter  Daleth, and Tarot Trump III, The

 Empress. So by means of this ritual the Operator is established immediately above Tiphareth and below Kether , on a line midway between  Binah and Chokmah. In addition, the Second Plane of the Tree of Lifealso contains the new, Transcendental Sephiroth, i = √-1, associated with the trans-Plutonian PlanetPersephone, and Aleph2, associated with the trans-Persephonean Planet Hera, both therefore on the samelevel of the Tree as Chokmah and Binah and connected by a new Path sharing that Plane with Daleth butorthogonal to the latter Path. So this ritual establishes the Operator at the intersection of three Paths onthe Inner Planes: Gimel  (Key 13),  Daleth (Key 14), and the new Path, associated with some distinctASCII character and one of the elements from the Periodic Table of the Chemical Elements, connectingSephirah i with Sephirah  Aleph2.

In order to establish him-/herself at that site on the Tree, the Operator imagines three line segments,two horizontal, one vertical, intersecting at right angles in the same point, and that he or she stands attheir point of intersection. The first, horizontal line segment represents  Daleth, connecting Chokmahwith Binah; the second, at right angles to the first but also horizontal, represents the new Path connectingi to  Aleph2; and the third, vertical line segment, at right angles to both the first two, represents Gimel ,connecting Kether with Tiphareth.

The six Pentagrams with which the Operator surrounds him-/herself mark out a protective Spherearound him or her. They represent the points defined by the intersections of the three Great Circles thatdefine the protective Sphere: above and below, where the two Great Circles in orthogonal vertical planescross each other, and at the four Cross-Quarters, where those vertically-aligned Great Circles cross that inthe horizontal plane, at right angles to it. Associated with each Pentagram is a Divine Name, anArchangel, a Planet, and an Element. Each Pentagram has two forms, depending upon whether it is used

for invoking or banishing.These Pentagrams are protective in and of themselves. So is the Sphere of Light which theyimplicitly create around the Operator. Further, by use of this ritual, the Operator establishes him-/herself far above almost all the lower Planes of the Tree of Life, above even the Upper Astral, and therebyduring the course of the ritual rises above almost all possible Qlipphotic influences or avenues of attack.As a result, this ritual gives the Operator three-fold protection of enormous power. Used for banishing, itwill ward off all ordinary and almost all extraordinary malefic and Qlipphotic influences. OnlyQlipphotic entities associated with  Kether or from regions beyond the esoteric universe associated withthe Tree of Life and its physical manifestation, our Solar System, can break through the wardsestablished by the Banishing form of this ritual, and then only with extreme difficulty. Since suchentities are only rarely encountered, even by advanced students and practitioners of Magick, this ritualwill be more than sufficient to give adequate Magickal protection in the overwhelming majority of cases,regardless of how severe or potentially damaging any malefic attacks or Qlipphotic infestations againstwhich it is used may be.

On the other hand, when the Greater Supernal Pentagram Ritual is used in invocations, it enables theOperator to invoke entities from the realms associated with the traditional Supernal Sephiroth ( Kether ,Chokmah, and  Binah) and the new Transcendental ones (∅ [Null or Empty Set], Zero, i = √-1,  Aleph0,

 Aleph1, and Aleph2) with a reasonable degree of safety and realistic hope of success.The Golden Dawn version of the Pentagram Ritual establishes the Operator at the intersection of the

Paths connecting Tiphareth with Yesod and Netzach with Hod . This places him or her completely abovethe sub-Lunar realms of the Lower Astral and the pernicious Qlipphotic influences associated with it;defines a Circle around him or her by means of four Pentagrams; and suggests Tiphareth above andYesod below, as upper- and lowermost positions on a protective Sphere about the Operator, between themthe image of a vertical column containing a “Six-Rayed Star” (this last can be imagined either as two

Hexagrams, either Stars of David or Unicursal Hexagrams, lying parallel to the horizontal plane in whichthe Operator stands and directly above and below him or her; or as the Origin and six Rays that definethe standard Cartesian coordinate space, with the X-, Y-, and Z-axes emanating from the Origin, whichcoincides with the Operator’s navel).

This is a very potent ritual, one which is almost always outstandingly efficacious for banishing aswell as many types of invocation. But it doesn’t establish the Operator at a point any higher on the Treeof Life than the Fifth Plane, which contains Netzach and Hod , and doesn’t equip him or her to deal with

influences and energies much above the Lower Astral, the upper boundary of which is the Sphere of Yesod (the orbital of Luna, the dominion of things ruled by Her). In a few, admittedly rare but extremelyfrightening or even deadly cases, one may come under attack by Qlipphotic entities associated withrealms in the Higher Astral or higher on the Tree of Life, or even completely alien ones from beyond theTree of Life and the Inner Planes of our local Solar System. In such cases, the Golden Dawn standardPentagram ritual may not be sufficient for protection. On the other hand, when one desires to invoke

 beings – whether divine or otherwise – from realms associated with portions of the Tree of Life aboveTiphareth or even completely beyond it, such as those associated with other Stellar systems far beyondthe bounds of Sol’s, that ritual, which is geared to the esoteric universe associated only with the Solar System, may prove to be useless. The Supernal Pentagram ritual, like the Transcendental and Other-Universe Pentagram rituals, which follow, takes account of much more of the esoteric realms than doesthe Golden Dawn version, and may be much more useful to the Operator in either sort of case; in thecase of invocations, for example, it can be used to invoke Gods associated with the Outer Planets of theSolar System, for which the Golden Dawn Pentagram ritual is useless.*

*For invoking the Gods associated with the Planets of other Stars, e.g., for accomplishment of successfulmanned missions from Earth to far-away Stars on the physical plane, or for obtaining knowledge of the infrastructure of the Inner Planes associated with Planets of Stars other than Sol, our own,however, the Transcendental Pentagram ritual is necessary; the universe of the Supernal Pentagramritual does not extend far enough outward from Earth for such purposes. For evoking beings frombelow Malkuth and the roots of the Tree of Life, the Tunnels of Set,1 as well as for warding oneself against them, the Trans-Universe Ritual of the Pentagram is necessary. Both of these are describedin this article below, in full.

The various forms of the Supernal Ritual of the Pentagram is described as follows below. The reader 

is advised to study the various forms of the Pentagrams used in the Golden Dawn Pentagram rituals to seehow each Pentagram is inscribed, in relation to the Element associated with it and the purpose, invokingor banishing, for which it is used (see Section C.2.D.2.A of this article for a full description of the GoldenDawn Pentagram ritual).

Hermes/Mercury/Djehuti/Odin; a gigantic steel sword with a bronze hilt, held vertically, point upward, a blazing crown of white-gold draped with laurel hovering above the point of its blade; an opal set in aring made of bronze; strong winds blowing, or even tornadoes and hurricanes; and a huge sphere of pure

 jet black banded in fiery scarlet, for the Sephirah.Americans may find it useful to imagine the American or bald eagle   Haliaeetus leucocephalus)

flying through the Eastern skies for this Quarter, as well as the grizzly bear. Images of bears in generalas well as of bats are good here. The image of the Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World in New York 

Harbor, silhouetted before the Sun rising out of the Atlantic Ocean, may be particularly useful here,regardless of one’s country of origin. In addition, anything associated with Keys 1, 3, and 15(respectively  Kether ,  Binah, and  Heh*), e.g., revolution, socialism, communism, other collectivistcultures and philosophies, accidents, catastrophes, crises, space-travel, women’s liberation and other liberation movements, breakthrough discoveries of any kind, modern high-power and/or electronictechnology, the Bomb, etc., are appropriate for the envisioning of this Pentagram, as is the Season of Winter.

Finally, the Fixed Stars Fomalhaut (alpha Piscis Australis),** now standing at about 4ºs of the SignPisces (as of 1995 e.v.), and the Star Polaris (alpha Ursa Minoris), at about 28ºs of the Sign Gemini,† areassociated with Uranus.

Fomalhaut, like Regulus, Antares, and Aldebaran, discussed below, is one of the four Royal Stars or Watchers of the Heavens of the Persian astrologers. In their time, about 3,000 b.c.e., Fomalhaut roseabout five hours before dawn and stood at the Midheaven on the Vernal Equinox, thus being the Watcher of Spring. It now rises about four hours after dawn on the first day of Winter, and is thus the herald of the Dawn on the first day of Spring, rising about two hours before the Sun on the Vernal Equinox.

In the 15th century, Polaris, at the tip of the handle of the Little Dipper, enabled Western Europeannavigators such as Columbus to sail the great oceans of the Northern hemisphere with only a compassand sextant as navigational tools, thus liberating Western Europe from its former isolation from most of the Planet, and enabling its peoples to discover a whole new world of unparalleled wonder and freedom,the Americas. Later on, Black slaves in the American South made their way to freedom in the North byusing Polaris as their navigational beacon; their use of this Star for that purpose is memorialized in thewell-known Negro “spiritual,” “Follow the Drinkin’ Gourd,” one of many such musical intelligencemanuals and road-maps passed among Black slaves in the American South right under the noses of their owners and overseers.‡

In the center of this Pentagram, envision the Ace of Wands, the four Knights, and Trump XX, The Aeon; the physical trans-Plutonian Planet Hera; the glyphs for the Element Fire < , the Cherub of Fire or Leo ö, and the Planet Hera (an upright cross in a circle whose arms extend beyond the circumference of the circle; in the center of the cross is a large dot); a huge Wand from which fresh green growth and

 brilliantly-colored blossoms are bursting, blazing with an ethereal fiery light; any of the Great Mother Goddesses and Queens of Heaven, such as Pallas Athena, Kali, Hera, Durga, Kwan Yin, Juno, MaryMother of Christ, Ishtar, Cybele, etc. Colors of the sky, blue flowers, flowers associated with Aquariusand Saturn, blue star sapphires, and roses are appropriate symbolism for the Mother Goddesses; and agigantic sphere all the colors of the sky, for Her Sephirah.

American practitioners may find the symbolism of the mountain lion and the geographic region of Mexico especially useful, here. In general, the Bengal tiger, the parrot or parakeet, the crocodile or alligator, or any animal or plant peculiar to the tropics is a good symbol of the South. In addition,anything associated with the idea of  Aleph2, the Set of All Possible Mathematical Structures, isappropriate to the envisioning of this Pentagram, as is the Season of Summer.

Finally, the fixed Stars Spica (alpha Virginis),* currently at about 24ºs of the Sign Libra, andRegulus (alpha Leonis or Cor Leonis, Heart of the Lion),** at about 29ºs of the Sign Leo, are associatedwith Hera. Regulus is one of the aforementioned Four Royal Stars of the Persians. As Watcher of the

 North, it marked the Summer Solstice at about 3,000 b.c.e., standing high in the Southern heavens on thatday of the year. It is now the herald of the Dawn on the Autumnal Equinox, rising about two hours

Finally, the Star Antares (alpha Scorpii or Cor Scorpio, Heart of the Scorpion),* which currently

stands about 10ºs of the Sign Sagittarius, is associated with Neptune. This Star, another of the Four Royal Stars of the Persians, as Watcher of the West marked the Autumnal Equinox in 3,000 b.c.e.,standing near the Zenith at noon on that day of the year. Today is rises about four hours after dawn onthe first day of Autumn, and is thus currently the herald of the Dawn on the Winter Solstice, rising abouttwo hours before the Sun on that day.

 physical Planet Persephone; the glyph for the Element Earth ï , the Cherub of Earth or Taurus ó, and thePlanet Persephone (like that for Hera, except that here the cross is tipped at 45º to the vertical, forming an“X”); any of the Gods of Earth, such as Keres, Demeter, Saturnus, Persephone, Gaia, etc.; a giganticmountain of black basalt streaked with white salt rising to the Empyrean; and an enormous spherecovered with the Mandelbröt Set as well as all possible Julia sets, worked in every color of theelectromagnetic spectrum, all those above violet and below red as well as those in the visible spectrum(alternatively, only in the colors midnight black, ice-white, and bloody scarlet).

Finally, the Fixed Stars Algol (beta Persei),* currently at about 26ºs Taurus, and Aldebaran (alpha

Tauri),** at about 10ºs Taurus, are associated with the Planet Persephone and Her  Sephirah, i = √-1.Aldebaran was also one of the Four Royal Stars of the Persians. As Watcher of the East, it marked theVernal Equinox, standing high in the sky at noon on that day of the year, about 3,000 b.c.e. By means of this ritual, the Operator establishes him-/herself just above  Kether on the Tree of Life,with Kether just below his/her feet, infinite Starry reaches all around him/her, and a blazing Star directlyabove his or her head, the appearance and identity of which will be described and explained shortly.   Kether , below the Operator’s feet, is visualized as a huge sphere of white brilliance, tinged with gold,like the fireball of a nuclear explosion at the moment of its inception (except that, rather than dissipatingrapidly, its form and the intensity of the light it gives off remain constant). appears in the form of a silver Sunburst, with a radiant aura that emits all energies above the visiblespectrum from ultraviolet light upward to the hardest gamma radiation.

The Pentagrams inscribed at the four Quarters of the horizontal plane that intersects with theOperator’s navel, along with the associations used with them, including God-Names and names andforms of the Archangels and Angels, are identical with those described in the previous section on theSupernal Pentagram Ritual. Only the associations used with the Pentagrams directly above and below theOperator differ significantly in this ritual from those used in that one.*

*This will not be quite true in the case of the Trans-Universe Pentagram Ritual, described in the nextsection, however. For a complete discussion of the differences between the Transcendental andTrans-Universe Pentagram rituals, see that section.

Use of this ritual establishes the Operator at the outermost bounds of the Solar System, just beyondthose portions of the Inner Planes corresponding with the Orbit of Pluto, and thus in the esotericequivalents of true interstellar space.*

*In esoteric terms, with reference to the 16-Sephiroth English-Language Qaballah developed in Part 3 of 

Volume 1 and Chapter 1 of Part 2 of Volume 3 of this work, because Pluto corresponds with  Kether ,His Sphere is thus the Outer Bound of Sol’s Territory. However, on the one hand, the Kuyper andÖort cometary clouds (in bands lying respectively 30-200 and 200-20,000 AU from Sol), come

 between Pluto’s orbit and true interstellar space; and on the other, the six hypothetical new Planetsthat fill out the 16-Sephiroth Qaballah, though They are diagrammed three-dimensionally on theSphere of Life as falling closer to Sol than Pluto does,  physically speaking Their orbits are assumedto lie farther from Sol than Pluto’s. Insimilar wise, the Supernal Pentagram ritual described in the previous section could also be used toinvoke beings associated with e.g., the bodies of the asteroid belt lying between Mars and Jupiter,maverick planetoids such as Chiron and Pholus having orbits outside the asteroid belt but which arenot really true Planets, Moons of other Planets, and so on. (The original Golden Dawn Pentagram

Ritual and its astrological variant also given in this article are fine for invoking beings anywhere  between the center of Sol and the Earth/Luna orbit, but not much else. Early on, the HexagramRituals were adapted for invocation of Gods associated with Planets Whose orbits lie outside Earth’s,

 but the Hexagram Rituals isn’t very adaptable much beyond that point, and it was to provide for itsdeficiencies that I developed the Supernal, Transcendental, and Trans-Universe Pentagram Rituals.

The workings of the mind, the spirit, the psyche, and material reality all interact and are inextricablyinterconnected with one another; the workings of any one of them inevitably affect all the others in verysignificant ways. The functioning of the spirit determines that of the psyche and intellect; thefunctioning of the latter strongly affect that of the physical brain, which in its turn similarly shapes that of the rest of the physical body, through which we act on the world in measurable ways. In return, the

 physical environment strongly affects the physiology of brain and body, and in turn these certainly affectthe way in which the psyche, intellect, and spirit express themselves in the manifest world, since they can

only do so through the physical media of brain and body. Thus the functioning of any one of these servesas a very useful mirror of any of the others. To understand any one of them is to have some significantunderstanding of all the rest; to affect any of them is to affect the others in some significant way.

Magickal ritual, which acts on esoteric reality on the Inner Planes, thus has a tremendous impactupon exoteric reality, the physical Outer Planes. The following rituals, which enable psyche and spirit toexplore the esoteric equivalents of interstellar space in our own physical universe (the TranscendentalPentagram Ritual) as well as regions in alternate physical universes (the Trans-Universe PentagramRituals) can therefore be very useful for workings dedicated, e.g., to the eventual achievement of the

 physical exploration and colonization of interstellar and trans-universal physical space by Earthly life of some kind, human or otherwise.*

*After all, regardless of species, all of us are part of the same homeworld, Mother Earth, and thereforechildren of the same Living God, the Great Spirit.

A ritual such as those that follow, below, is absolutely necessary for achieving and maintaining the psychospiritual health of our world once physical exploration of these non-terrestrial realms has begun.For the only spiritual resources we will have with us at the inception of such endeavor will be those wecarry within us: our Gods, our myths, our symbols, and our history, both human and pre-human. Ritualssuch as those given here will establish them firmly within us, and connect them to the new, strangecosmos we have already begun to physically explore, thereby creating for us the psychospiritualequivalents of life-support systems to sustain our spiritual and emotional existence in whatever domainsof the Inner Planes area associated with those alien regions of the physical cosmos. Otherwise, that alien

  psychospiritual environment, for which we have not as yet been selected by gigayears of naturalevolution (not to mention possible Qlippoth of those realms) could quickly destroy our essential selvesand, worse, doom Gaia’s efforts to reproduce Herself. 3

This first ritual is performed as follows:

1. The Lesser Ritual Form

Second, rather than God-Names, Archangels, and other associations used with the Pentagrams of the

Quarters that are employed in the Golden Dawn ritual, those given up for the Lesser TranscendentalRitual of the Pentagram are also employed here.

Otherwise, the Greater Transcendental Ritual of the Pentagram is like the original one used by theGolden Dawn in both its invoking and banishing modes.

C.2.D.2.E. The Trans-Universe Pentagram Ritual

This ritual is used to deal with the truly bizarre, the alien, the otherly, the demonic, the realm of acompletely alien space-time continuum. Therefore, with only one exception, the inverse, the demonic,and chaotic, and the alien characterize the symbolism of this form of the Pentagram ritual, which willthus be unlike those previously described in almost every way.

The exception involves the employment of God-Names during the inscription of the Pentagrams, asin the rituals described in previous sections of this article, rather than demonic names. The reason for this is that Divinity is always far more powerful than the demonic. Furthermore, unlike the demonic,which is particularized and limited in its possible modes and environmental matrices of manifestation,God is truly universal – or rather, multiversal, omnipresent in all possible universes. In addition, we needour Gods, in forms with which we are familiar, to protect, guard, and sustain us in the alien realm of thetrans-universal. By itself, the demonic is either insufficient for and incapable of doing this for us, or elseis essentially untrustworthy and dangerous to us in its own right.

 Nota bene: In all cases below, the inverse Pentagram – inscribed with two feet up, apex down, asopposed to the upright form, which has its apex up and two feet down, as is used in all other versions of the Pentagram ritual – is used. Generally speaking, the upright Pentagram is used to invoke (call in)Gods, while the inverse Pentagram is used to evoke (call up) lesser spirits, both benign and malefic.However, in the case of evocation, in the popular imagination if not in fact malefic spirits are invokedmore often than benign ones, simply because they are far more powerful than the latter, in most cases,and thus are at least potentially much more useful to the Magickian as slaves. Because of the strongemotional hold this popular misconception has on our imaginations, the inverted Pentagram, which is

used to evoke spirits, has come to be popularly associated with evil, while the upright one, used to invokethe Gods, is associated with the good. The scholarly among students and practitioners of Magick, atleast, will consciously reject this popular idea as childish and bigoted. But the Magickal Machine isreally the Deep Unconscious, individual and collective, and the Unconscious is shaped from the

 beginning by predominant ideas held by the great majority of people in the culture in which we come tomaturity. The Unconscious takes a long, long time to become civilized – it still hasn’t achieved thatnoble and glorious state of being, and there is reason to wonder whether it ever will – and until it does so,it will continue to embrace that which was learned first and best, as a small child taking in everythingwhich one’s parents and the other adults that make up a child’s small universe have to say about realitywith wide-eyed, uncritical wonder. Thus while the upright Pentagram is often used to symbolize theHoly and the Divine,* the inverse Pentagram is frequently used to symbolize the demonic, theQlipphotic, and the alien, the fact that it is a graphic reversal of the upright one only reinforcing thissymbolism.

 Note here as well that the directions used here are mirror-image reversals for the associations given

for the rituals described in previous sections of this article.

*In fact, the upright Pentagram is often used pedagogically to teach the mystical meanings of the name of Jesus and the implications of his nature and divinity. In this case, the “J” of Jesus is associated withthe bottom right-hand point of the Pentagram, the Hebrew letter  Yod of the God-Names “Yod-Heh-Vav-Heh” and “Yod-Heh-Shin-Vav-Heh,” and the Element Fire; the “E”, with the upper right-hand

1. The Lesser Ritual Form

I recently experimented with a ritual which combines the standard Golden Dawn Pentagram ritualwith the new Supernal, Transcendental, and Trans-Universe Pentagram rituals described in previous

sections of this article as an aid to breaking through blockages in my life that nothing else seemed to beable even to touch. I give it here more for theoretical than practical considerations, adding some sharpwarnings as to employing it rashly or in the absence of real need. The experienced Hermeticist willeasily see the reasons for such caution from the description of the ritual itself, given below; those withless experience should be extremely careful about attempting it, doing so only after putting a great deal of research and thought into it – and only if nothing else seems to work for the purpose. Above all, Idefinitely advise against using this combined form of the Pentagram merely for “centering” or meditation

 purposes, in the way that simpler, far less risky versions of the Pentagram ritual are used.

Briefly speaking, the following forms of the Pentagram rituals are used here, in the order given, oneimmediately after the preceding one: (1) the invoking  form of the Lesser Trans-Universe PentagramRitual (see Section C.2.D.2.E, above); the banishing form of the standard Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram(see Section C.2.D.2.A, above); (3) the banishing  form of the Lesser Supernal Pentagram Ritual (seeSection C.2.D.2.C, above); and (4) the banishing  form of the Lesser Transcendental Pentagram Ritual(see Section C.2.D.2.E, above).

When these four rituals are done in that order, each one immediately after the preceding one, theresults are as follows:

Step (1) pulls an enormous high-energy outwash from Absolute Alienness into the Operator’s sphere.Like any extremely high-energy radiation, of course, this energy could prove lethal to the Operator or anyone in his/her immediate vicinity within a very short time unless dealt with in some appropriate way.

Thus Steps (2)-(4). Done in the order described, these quickly remove the Operator and everythingin his or her immediate environment farther and farther away from that high-energy upwelling rush of Qlipphotic energy. In addition, they also move the Operator from Malkuth and the Manifest World upthrough the Astral Light to regions of the Inner Planes corresponding to parts of the Solar Systemincreasingly farther away from Sol, and finally into esoteric realms corresponding to interstellar space.

A close analogy to this combined ritual form is the very primitive space-drive known as the “impulsedrive” which, as risky as it sounds, could actually be used to get a space-ship up from the surface of aPlanet such as the Earth into interplanetary or interstellar space (more or less) intact, with all passengersand cargo aboard in (more or less) acceptable shape. This “drive” works as follows:

The space-ship itself consists of a very strongly built container that houses all cargo, passengers, andinstrumentation. One side of this container is even more strongly reinforced, the reinforcementconsisting of an enormous thickness of the finest, hardest, and densest of structural materials (currently, ahigh grade of steel). Behind this reinforced wall, on the outside of the ship, a series of low-yield nuclear devices of about the size of the ones that destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 are successively

detonated. These are delivered to the site of their intended detonation by some appropriate deliverysystem from a storage area within the ship. If the ship is properly built and the yield of each nuclear device isn’t too great, the effect of this is to kick the ship upstairs into extraplanetary space without

 broaching the walls of the ship or shaking up anybody or anything inside it so strongly that they areirreparably damaged.*

The blast and radiation of the nuclear bombs used to drive the ship here correspond to the

dangerously high-intensity uprush of Qlipphotic energy/information which Stage (1) of this combinationritual evokes into the Operator’s immediate neighborhood. The acceleration into outer space which thenukes used for the impulse drive impart to the space-ship for which they provide the drive corresponds towhat happens when Stages (2)-(4) are executed, in order, immediately after executing Stage (1). The

 possible destruction of the ship and its cargo and the death of its passengers that would occur if bombs of too high a yield were used, or if the ship weren’t properly built, correspond to what could happen if Stages (2)-(4) of this ritual aren’t executed right after Stage (1) and/or aren’t executed properly. (Whichunderscores the fact that this is a rather risky ritual which deserves much serious thought andconsideration prior to using it, and that it should be applied only in the face of dire need.)

I did try this ritual myself – once. It worked for its intended purpose, apparently without appreciableunwanted side-effects (though later on, things happened which strongly suggested that such side-effectswere not non-existent, only delayed). I was very careful to execute every step of it properly and in theright order. In addition, I performed this ritual only in the face of real need, and only after everythingelse available to me for the purpose had failed. This is all the field-data I can provide at this timeconcerning actual use of this ritual. Beyond that, all I can do is add: caveat emptor .

 Nota bene: Other combined forms of the Pentagram rituals could be created for various purposes in

ways similar to the one given in this section. The interested reader should experiment freely with thisidea, putting different versions of the Pentagram rituals together in different ways for a variety of 

 purposes – such free experimentation being done on paper or in computer memory, recorded in ink and/or electrons. But before putting such combined forms of the Pentagram rituals into practice, a greatdeal of caution is very much in order.

 ALOaH Va Da’ATh and Raphael) if you want to envision Da’ath below you rather than Tiphareth.

*Since Da’ath partakes of both Chaos or Void and the Quintessence and, like them, is a composite of thefour essential Elements, Fire, Water, Air, and Earth.

There is, however, one situation in which you wouldn’t want to associate the Nadir with  Da’athinstead of Tiphareth. This is the case in which you want to strengthen your throat chakra and thyroidgland, associated on the physical plane with the throat chakra. In this case, you would use the SupernalRitual of the Pentagram as given, but with the following modifications.

In this version of the Supernal Pentagram Ritual, you establish yourself on the Tree of Life on thePath connecting  Kether  with Tiphareth, associated with the Hebrew letter  Gimel , Tarot Trump II, The

 High Priestess, and Luna, Earth’s Moon. You are also in the Abyss, in the gap between  Daleth,connecting Chokmah (Neptune) to  Binah (Uranus), and the Path connected Chesed  (Jupiter) withGeburah (Mars).* The following associations are made with the four Quarters of the Heavens: (1) East= before you = Air = Liberty/Hera/Durga (S. Aleph2); (2) South = to your right = Fire = Neptune/Jupiter (Chokmah/Chesed ); West = behind you = Earth = Persephone/Kali (S. i = √-1); (4) North = to your left

= Water = Uranus/Mars ( Binah/Geburah); (5) Above = Active Spirit = Pluto ( Kether ); and (6) Below =Passive Spirit = Sol (Tiphareth). For the sake of convenience, the relevant Sephiroth may be envisionedas huge, radiant balls of living light in colors appropriate to them, e.g., gray or aqua-blue for Chokmah,

  black/red/electric-blue for  Binah, royal blue for Chesed , scarlet for  Geburah, white-brilliance or white-gold for  Kether , and yellow, salmon, and other bright, warm colors for Tiphareth. Chokmah is to your right and slightly above you, but not as high as is  Kether ; Chesed is to your right and slightly below you,

 but not as far below you as Tiphareth is;  Binah and Geburah are to your left, with  Binah slightly aboveand Geburah slightly below you, both between the Planes containing Kether and Tiphareth.

At the same time, imagine that you are on the Path between Tiphareth and  Kether , with your headtoward  Kether  and your feet toward Tiphareth, your surroundings looking much like those pictured in

This version of the Supernal Pentagram Ritual is useful in exercises designed to strengthen and protect the throat chakra and the physical thyroid gland. In its banishing form, it can ward off Astralattacks aimed at the throat chakra and the thyroid, and establish protective shields around them.

*Traditionally,  Lamed , associated with Trump XI,  Justice and the Sign Libra, connects Chesed  toGeburah. In Crowley’s system, however, this Path is associated with Teth, Trump XI,  Lust , and theSign Leo.
