Through imagination and simple ingenuity, students will create their own string puppets, stage, and scenery and bring their puppets to life in fun performances.239. Design your own graffiti style typeface and alphabet, cut typographic stencils to spray a “shout-out” banner, to be displayed on the LASC grounds.240. We will use different techniques to squeeze, squirt, stroke and coat clay canvases of various shapes. Create cubist style self-portraits similar to Picasso and abstract landscapes like Matisse. Be introduced to a variety of ceramic construction processes including pinch, coil, and slab building. Using creative problem solving and imagination, experiment with surface decoration to incorporate texture, pattern and color.

Working with soft and hard slabs, hand building construction techniques, templates, and simple molds create a variety of functional pottery forms including cups, vases, plates, and one-of-a-kind presentation pots. PORTRAIT SCULPTURE with Thomas Bakerfor ages 13 to Adult | $125 ($115 members) | Thursday Evenings 6 - 9PM: Nov. 14, 21, 28, Dec. 5A unique opportunity to sculpt the human portrait from a live model. Using a traditional, direct approach, students will create a modeled sculpture in plastilina clay. A focus on building the form with contour line, geometric mass, study of light and shadow, and creating human expression will be highlighted. Previous life drawing experience a plus but not required. Finished sculptures can exist as they are or be used as a mold for casting in metal or other mediums.
