Hau'oli makahiki hou!

Wow, what a great start to the 2014. The holidays are over, the tree put away, and the fresh start of a new year! Each year, we take time to re-

flect on the past calendar year and evaluate our lives and in the Ragano home, we are no different. We look to clean out closets, tidy the gar-

age, and even try to start eating healthier after the holiday whirlwind of food, fellowship, and fun!

What resolutions did you make? To be kinder to your neighbors? To exercise more? Even cook different foods? Spend more time with

friends? If any of those were on your list, then we are here to support you. The Hui has so many activity clubs that would love to have you

participate and meet other spouses. Our edible eats can help you find your inner Giada or Bobby. Our paddling club and adventure club both

get you outside to explore and move! And our Thrift Shop would LOVE to have you come in and volunteer. On that note, this month, January

is Celebrate our Thrift Shop month. The Shop is an integral part of our community and is always looking for great donations of goods as well

as time. So come by and check them out today!

A huge THANK YOU to the luncheon committee for a wonderful Holiday Luncheon- it was full of way to much cheer and gingerbread. I won-

der what this month has in store for us as we look to High Light the Thrift Shop! I am so excited to see the fashions that are created in our lit-

tle shop and decorating ideas that we can all use!

This month also sees the tickets for the MOCK DINING IN go on sale. This crazy night of fun and friends will be the main evening event of

the year. We truly hope you will grab a few friends-Hui members or not- and get your tickets fast- it promises to be an evening you will never

forget as we celebrate what it takes to be a military spouse. Check out our website for more information on the evening.

Thank you to each of YOU for making the Hui `O Na Wahine the place to be! Without you and your enthusiasm, we would be nothing. I hope

you have an amazing month and see each of you on the 16th at our luncheon!

Happy 2014, Hui Members! I hope everyone is beginning to recover from the holidays...you know, the endless baking (and eating), the parties, the gift giving, the deco-rating, the cleaning, and just the sheer exhaustion of it all. Woo hoo! We survived the holidays! Now what? Will life as we know it quickly change? Well, if you are one of those New Year's resolvers, life just may be changing for you. From what I have been reading, here are a few of the most common new year's resolutions: go on a diet; stop smoking; get more exercise; save money; stop biting nails; learn something new; cut down on alcohol consumption; and decrease stress. Do some of these look famil-iar? Have you tried them and stopped? Do you resolve each year to do better? You are not alone, believe you me! Many of those studies, reports, surveys and polls offer that the average person will can those new year's resolutions before the 1st of March. So why even bother? The hubby does not like all the new healthy food you are cooking; you have to spend more money to buy cool workout clothes and equipment so you look like you know what you are doing; the creepy relatives are still in town and you need to drink to cope with them; you started biting your nails because you stopped smoking and need something to do with your hands; and is any of this even remotely decreasing your stress level? I think not. So, maybe this year we should just resolve not to make any new year's resolutions. I'm just saying....

Aloha Membership! I hope you all enjoyed our Hui Holiday luncheon! It was funny to hear some of your answers to our holiday trivia and the gingerbread houses looked fantastic; y’all never cease to amaze me! Next month, we will be celebrating the Hui Thrift Shop! If you haven’t visited the Thrift Shop or didn’t know that we had one, visit our website at www.schofieldspousesclub.com and click on the Thrift Shop tab on the right. It will give you the address and hours so you can check it out! During our luncheon in January, we will have a fashion show consisting of outfits, shoes, accessories, jewelry, etc. all found at the Thrift Shop. The centerpieces on each table will also be compiled from items that our community has donated to the Thrift Shop. Every item, including the fashion show ensembles, will be available for purchase! If you are interested in participating in our fashion show as a model, contact me at [email protected]! Don’t forget to get your reservations in by January 10th to Beth at [email protected]. We will feast on chicken parmesan, watch the fashion show and celebrate the Thrift Shop’s success because of you!

See you there!

Memory Jars 2014? Where did 2013 go? With day to day life being so busy it’s becomes common place to only remember the BIG things and inadvertent-

ly forget all the smaller things; the laughs, the fun, the little joys. So this year our family will be starting a new tradition this year,

Memory Jars!

Through-out 2014 we will be filling our jars with memories such as;

New places we visit

Things that make us laugh

New things we try (foods, paddle boarding, etc.)

Goals achieved

Everyday Blessings

Surprises

Notes to each other (i.e. thank you Dad for teaching me to golf)

Ticket stubs from plays or movies we enjoy

We will open our jar on New Years Day, 2015 and reflect on all the memories of 2014. I hope to continue this new tradition for years to come!

Addressing the Mess:

A member may want to raise a point of order or iden-

tify infractions to the Mess. The proper way is as fol-

lows:

1. Rise and state “Madam Vice, a point of order”

2. When recognized by the Vice, identify yourself

and state your business.

3. It is tradition to offer flattering words to the Presi-

dent, Madam Vice and Judges to sway your cause.

Bribes may be considered.

Infraction of the Mess:

A member may be punished for violating the rules of

the Mess. A member may also be punished for some-

thing they might have done earlier in the year, or for

no reason other than the fact that someone wants to

send them to the grog bowl. Embellishment of facts

is highly encouraged. Punishment might include

singing a song, telling a joke, being sent to the grog

bowl, or some other activity determined by the Presi-

dent, Madam Vice and /or “judges.”

GROG BOWL:

The grog bowl contains a combination of different foods/drinks

and may be unsavory looking, but it is not undrinkable. When

sent to the grog bowl, one should do the following:

Proceed to the bowl in a spousely fashion, straight and to the

point.

Salute the grog in the appropriate manner.

Fill the cup at least a couple drops.

Do an about face and toast the mess stating: “To the Mess!”

Drain the grog from the cup without removing it from the lips.

Tip the cup upside down over one’s head signifying it is empty.

Do an about face, replace cup, salute the grog, and return to your

seat.

You may not talk during this process.

NOTE: No one is forced to drink from the Grog…..another

“punishment” will be divined by the “judges.”

a unique serving pieces for your next party? Check out this cool DIY treat/serving stand!

Here’s what you need:

Plates and bowls of your

mess these up! Let

the stand set up and

dry for a bit before

moving it or adding
