March 26, 2018

Dear Parents and Students,

Though summer may seem far away, the time has arrived for Summer 2018 registration at Springfield Ballet. Summer is an excellent time to develop dance technique. Springfield Ballet offers several types of programs for summer study that can accommodate many. The first step in furthering progress or beginning progress in ballet and dance training is to register for the upcoming semester!

Springfield Ballet, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing the art of ballet through premier education, performance, outreach and collaboration. The school was established in 1976 to provide the highest caliber of dance training and to foster a love of movement and the arts through pre-professional performance opportunities. We provide an atmosphere that fosters self-confidence, grace, discipline and a thoughtful attitude toward instructors and other students.

CLASS INFORMATION: Springfield Ballet is offering the below classes in a six-week class session from June 4-July 12. If you are enrolling for six-week summer classes and know that you will be on vacation during the six-week session, please let us know upon registration which classes you will be missing, and we will be happy to prorate tuition for you. As a note, Springfield Ballet is closed and no classes are held on Wednesday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. To register for our six-week class session, visit http://www.springfieldballet.org/Register-Now.

Beginning at age three, children may enroll in our Creative Movement dance classes. Creative Movement 1 (ages 3-4) is an educational and fun class which introduces your child to dance emphasizing musical awareness, spatial awareness, group interaction and listening skills. Creative Movement 2 (ages 4-6) is a more in-depth exploration of the dance concepts with additional emphasis on posture and coordination.

Pre-Ballet (ages 5-7) is a prelude to formal ballet training and focuses on very basic ballet movements that deal with gross and fine motor skills, creative expression and music appreciation. Classical ballet training begins with Ballet 1 (ages 6-10) and continues with Ballet 2, Ballet 3, Ballet 4, Ballet 5, Ballet 6 and Pointe 6 and Ballet 7 and Pointe 7.

NEW for Ballet 5, 6 & 7 students this summer: We are offering a BONUS class on Mondays, 8:00-8:30pm. Any dancer in Ballet 5+ is welcome to that class which will cover topics to supplement their ballet training such as discussions on injury prevention, audition planning and processes, resume writing, and MORE!

Elective classes are a great way to supplement your ballet training. We offer: Modern 1A (approximate ages 7 and up, in Ballet 2 and up); Modern 1B (by placement); Modern 2 & 3 (by placement) Jazz 1 (approximate ages 9 and up, in Ballet 4 and up); Jazz 2 & 3 (by placement). Stretch & Strengthen (ages 9+ & ages 12+)

Dance with Me (age 2-3): Springfield Ballet also offers a Dance with Me dance class for children ages 2-3 to take a Creative Movement class with an adult on Tuesday mornings from 9:45-10:15am. This fun class focuses on teaching simple stretches and basic dance steps as well as the discipline of working together in a group.

Open Adult Ballet & Conditioning: We are pleased to continue our open adult class program for ages 16 through adult. Open Adult Ballet & Conditioning, a 75-minute class offered on Tuesday evenings from 8:00-9:15, will focus on the use of ballet technique to help with toning, strength and flexibility. You can drop-in to these classes at a single class rate of $14 or purchase an Open Adult Class Card at $50 for 4 classes. SUMMER CAMPS AND INTENSIVES: Springfield Ballet is pleased to offer exciting opportunities with daytime summer camps and intensives. First, Springfield Ballet introduces Fairy Tale Ballet Camp (ages 3-5; July 16-20) and Prince and Princess Ballet Camp (ages 6-9; July 16-20), which allow children to experience dance class as well as learn about other artistic aspects that go into ballet such as music, drama, and dance history. Participants will have a daily dance class, craft time, story time, plus much more! At the end of the week, dancers perform a special presentation for families.

Next, Springfield Ballet will offer Plié Ballet Camp (July 16-20, by placement—approx. ages 7-14, Ballet 1 & Ballet 2), Junior Summer Intensive (July 23-27, by placement—approx. ages 8-17, Ballet 3 & Ballet 4), and Senior Summer Intensive (July 29-Aug 3, by placement, approx. ages 11 and up, Ballet 5 and up), which provide several hours of dance and dance-related instruction each day. They include daily ballet technique class as well as classes in other dance styles such as modern and jazz, stretch and strengthening, nutrition, anatomy & physiology, dance history, and much more. Plié Ballet Camp and Junior Summer Intensive will have an in-studio presentation in Studio A to conclude the week, and the Senior Summer Intensive will have an end-of-week performance in the Springfield Art Museum’s auditorium.

To register for Fairy Tale, Prince & Princess and Plié Ballet Camps or the Junior or Senior Summer Intensives, visit http://www.springfieldballet.org/Register-Now.

NEW: We are offering an Improvisation Camp for dancers in Ballet 3+. Be the first to attend this NEW camp designed to develop a greater understanding of dance composition concepts through technique classes, movement exploration, choreographer history lessons and examination of the relationship between visual art and dance. Dancers will split their camp time between the Creamery Arts Center and the Springfield Art Museum. Participants will end the camp with a structured improvisation performance in the lobby of the Springfield Art Museum during the Young Choreographers Showcase. For more information or to get registered for this particular camp, please visit the Current Forms page on our website: http://www.springfieldballet.org/Current-Forms.

STAY IN SHAPE CLASSES: Finally, we are offering “Stay-in-Shape” classes for Ballet 4, 5, 6, and 7 (approximate ages 9 and up) and Modern 2 & 3 students. At these levels, taking several weeks off can be detrimental to progress, so these classes offer the opportunity to continue progress while the school’s classes are not in session. Stay-in-Shape classes are offered from May 30-31 & July 16-26. Registration for Stay-in-Shape classes will be through the office with single class and class card options. The registration fee is waived for Stay-in-Shape classes.

Enclosed you will find a registration packet which includes: 1) Summer 2018 Class Schedule, which includes the schedule for the six-week session as well as the stay-in-shape classes, 2) Tuition rates and policies, 3) Summer 2018 Camp and Intensive Schedules and 4) How to Register. You can also find information including faculty bios and details on dress code and tuition policies on our website, www.springfieldballet.org.

Hurry and sign up today as camps and classes fill quickly!

Please do not hesitate to call our office at (417) 862-1343 or email me at [email protected] if you have any questions or would like additional information.

Sincerely, Ashley Paige Romines Artistic & School Director Springfield Ballet, Inc.
