Founded in 1896, it features individualized attention, small class sizes and an applied as well as theoretical approach to learning. Serving over 2,000 students, the College offers rich programs in the sciences, as well as a variety of programs in business and the humanities, offering more than 25 undergraduate majors, five master’s degree programs and a variety of complementary adult education courses.

The 398-acre farm in Jamison was part of a $30 million gift in 2010 from the Warwick Foundation and the Gemmill family. The property serves as a living laboratory for Delaware Valley College researchers and students.

2012 AWARD RECIPIENTS

THE TOSNEY AWARD – Awarded annually, and named for a dedicated and long-time member of AAUA, the Eileen Tosney Award is AAUA’s highest recognition; it is intended to acknowledge outstanding and distinguished career service to higher education. 2012 Recipient: Joseph S. Brosnan, President, Delaware Valley College.

THE JOHN BLACKBURN AWARD – Awarded annually, and named for a former AAUA President and General Secretary, the John L. Blackburn Award recognizes outstanding examples of college and university leadership that (a) demonstrate creative solutions to common problems, and/or (b) illustrate successful efforts to meet demands—whether from legislative bodies, accrediting agencies, the public, strategic objectives, or other internal or external forces. 2012 Recipient: Wheelock College, for the Revitalization of the Mattahunt Community Center (accepted by Adrian K. Haugabrook).

THE NIKOLAI KHALADJAN AWARD FOR INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION – Named for a well-know university international education pioneer, the Nikolai N. Khaladjan Award is presented annually to recognize innovation and achievement in international education, especially—but not restricted to—programs that develop or strengthen any of the following aspects of international education programming: (1) innovative teaching methods; (2) methods which widen access to education; (3) extension of or more efficient use of teaching resources; (4) wide use of or development of learning technology; and (5) efforts that accelerate or deepen student learning. 2012 Recipient: Arcadia University for the ATLAS Initiative (accepted by David Rudd).

THE DONALD GATZKE DISSERTATION AWARD – One of two awards given annually for outstanding doctoral dissertation in the field of higher education or higher education administration. 2012 Recipient: Kristi D. THE LEO AND MARGARET GOODMAN-MALAMUTH DISSERTATION AWARD – One of two awards given annually for outstanding doctoral dissertation in the field of higher education or higher education administration. 2012 Recipient: Deborah J. Bradford: “Emerging and Disruptive Technologies for Education: An Analysis of Planning, Implementation, and Diffusion in Florida’s Eleven State University System Institutions” – University of Central Florida, 2010.

THE EMERGING LEADER AWARD – The AAUA Emerging Leader Award recognizes an early-career administrator in higher education who has achieved recognition from peers, superiors, and subordinates, and who is deemed to show promise of emerging as a future prominent leader in American higher education. 2012 Recipient: Andrea L. Beach, Western Michigan University.
