Know What You Like ... That's the Way To Enjoy Fine Wine Nick Papasoff, Maitre de, Indian Lake

Lodge, has some sound advice about wine. According to Nick, "The best way to enrich your enjoyment of wine is simply to know what you like, learn their names, and order those that have become your favorites. Exploring other wines will come later."

The best thing about the number of wines available at the Lodge is the great variety—wines for every taste and every occasion. If there is anything wrong here, it is that this great variety may be confusing. It needn't be.

Nick feels that there should be no reason for newcomers to wine to hesitate over buying a bottle of wine in the Lodge. There is no such thing as a "wrong" wine. The only wrong wine is one that you don't care for. The right wine is one YOU like with a particular meal or at a particular time.

There are traditional combinations of wine and food, and traditional times of day when certain wines are served. These certainly aren't rules. They simply represent the taste of a majority of wine drinkers through the years.

Most wine experts, including Nick Papasoff, suggest that beginning wine drinkers try the traditional combina-tions first—just to see if tastes agree. If they do, fine. If not, then just follow your taste instead of the crowd.

No person ever fully masters the vast array of fine wines. The only limits on learning about wine are your time and curiosity.

If you do not regularly enjoy wine, there is only one way to find out what wine connoisseurs are talking about.

See Nick at the Lodge and try some wine yourself.

Halloween Costume Party November 2

One of the favorite nights of the year for many Indian Lakers is the annual Halloween costume party. This year the big party will be held Saturday, Novem-ber 2. A grand march will take place at 10 p. m., after which prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.

Those who have attended mummer's parties in the past know that the ingen-uity of Indian Lakers is legion when it comes to costumes.

There's also a big night of entertain-ment as the most requested comedy act in the east—Blizz and Burke—will be on stage at 8:30 and 10:30 with their hilarious comedy.

Plan now to be at the Lodge for an evening of partying and entertainment. Bring your friends, too.

Snomobiling Is Exciting Family Fun

Sport Gained Popularity Last Year and Is Expected

To Increase This Year

Experienced snowmobilers say anyone can operate a snowmobile. There's no special skill or training required. And, best of all, snowmobiling is a sport the whole family can enjoy.

The snowmobile is essentially a motorized bobsled with a pair of skis up front and wide caterpillar-like track underneath to propel it. Whether it's a cross-country jaunt or sailing up and over steep embankments, the snowmobile is designed to ride on top of the most powdery snow. Two passengers can ride comfortably on the sled.

It is estimated that approximately 200,000 snowmobiles were sold last year, and this year sales may be even double that amount.

Several Indian Lake families had snow-mobiles here last year and more are ex-pected to get in on the action this year.

Bob Long, snowmobile dealer and operator of the marina on Indian Lake, reports an early buying trend this year. The Evenrude Skeeter, which is on dis-play at the Marina, is said to be more powerful this year with a 25 horsepower engine. The manufacturer says the new engine, which is built specifically for snowmobiles, will race through any kind of snow with power to spare. So before you buy a snowmobile this year, check with Bob Long. He'll tell you all about the new 1969 snowmobiles.

Skiwear for '68-'69 to be Shown At Lodge Saturday, November 9

Annual Fashion Show Marks Opening of Ski Shop and Season

Is your ski wardrobe obsolete? If you don't think it is, you might change your mind after seeing Indian Lake's 1968-69 ski fashion show Saturday, November 9, at the Lodge. The show will start at 9:30 p. m. and will be directed by Linda Klein, wife of Indian Lake ski pro Willi Klein.

Last year the accent was on bright colors and narrow shapes. This year there's not only more color and new shapes, but there are new fabrics and design features that make ski wear more practical than ever.

The bright colors and good looks this year are combined with such practical features as endurance, stretchability, dependability and warmth. Other ideas in-clude two-in-one parkas, two-way stretch pants with inserts, zip-on warm up

pants and reversible hoods. One manu-facturer has a personalized glove with fleece backing for "nose wiping."

You may not see all these ideas at Indian Lake, but there will be more than enough high fashion ski outfits to make anyone eligible for the best dressed skier of the year award.

Evening Wear, Wigs

An added feature of this year's show will be the modeling of after skiwear, evening clothes and wigs. There will be something for everyone and every pocket-book.

Mark the date on your calendar—Saturday, November 9—for Indian Lake's annual ski fashion show.

Naugle Wins Top Prize

In Golfer-Shooter Event

Thoma High Gun, Phenecie Low Golfer

Wayne Naugle of Davidsville won top honors in the golfer vs. shooter tourna-ment held October 5.

With handicap scoring, Wayne had a 39 for his nine-hole round of golf and hit 19 out of 25 in the shooting category to win the overall trophy.

The individual trophy for high gun in trap and skeet shooting was won by Dr. George Thoma of Bridgeville. He hit 23 out of 25 clay targets.

Warren Phenecie of Johnstown won the golf trophy with a low net of 38.

This was the second golfer vs. shooter tournament held this year. In June, Billy Baltzer won the overall trophy and John Legath took the golf title. Don DeArment copped high gun honors.

The tournaments have been quite suc-cessful, and the next event has been tentatively scheduled for early next summer.

Work Speeds Up On New Runway

Construction of the new runway for Indian Lake's air-park complex is moving ahead at a rather feverish pace, while a change in the plans from a 4000-foot paved runway to 5000-feet are being incorporated into the project.

The original plan of extending the existing 3000-foot runway another 1000-feet will be completed as scheduled.

More heavy equipment from Robert Glessner, original contractor for the project, and Swank Construction Co., sub-contractor, was put into operation the past month in an effort to speed up the job.

Rough grading and installation of the base material for the new runway is expected to be completed by November 1. Paving will not begin until next spring.

Indian Lake Game Farm, Hunting Preserve Now Open

No Trespassing Signs Posted

Sportsmen who always hoped for the exclusive and practical benefits of hunt-ing under quality controlled conditions realized their dreams Monday, October 15, as Indian Lake opened its new game farm and hunting preserve.

An abundant supply of quail and pheasant were turned loose on the game farm as part of the first phase of a huge stocking program. Birds are being pur-chased this first year until the program and facilities for raising birds on the farm gets under way.

Paul Wagner, membership chairman for Indian Lake's new game farm and hunting preserve, is shown here posting one of thousands of signs which are being used to en-force the privacy of the regulated shooting grounds. The game farm and hunting pre-serve opened October 15. Membership in the club may be obtained by contacting Paul Wagner, or Indian Lake Shooting Park.

The hunting grounds are separate, but near Indian Lake's existing 3,000-acre development. The game farm has 1,200 acres for members to hunt pheasant, chuka and quail. In the 2500-acre regulated hunting preserve, members will have their pick of deer, turkey, rabbit, grouse, woodcock and squirrel.

Memberships in the club are limited in order to maintain the high standards of the game farm and hunting preserve, and to protect the value of a member-

ship for those who have already joined. Even though the hunting season is here, memberships are still open.

Annual membership is only $150. The first year initiation fee is also $150. A membership gives you, your family and registered guests all the privileges of the shooting park and game farm and hunting preserve.
