Rex S. Tatlonghari was born on March 10,1979 in San Juan, Batangas. He is married to MaricrisTatlonghari and they are blessed with three lovely children,Kriselle, 16; Risen, 7; and Flare, 5.

Rex was a consistent honor student. He wasraised close to nature which gave him the inspiration to kickstart his artistic journey.

He was in his teenage years when his familymoved to Bulacan, an important place in the field of art. Hedid not finish his architecture degree from Bulacan StateUniversity, but this did not hinder him from pursuing hisgoals. His skills grew as opportunities came along.

In 2000, Rex joined the artists’ groupBahaghari ng Malolos. He became president of the group in2015. He is also a member of the Art Association of thePhilippines, Artery Manila, and Lakan Sining ng Bulacan.

e took painting seriously in early 2000 and began joining competitions andexhibitions. In a span of 15 years, he has won several major awards from important institutions andprestigious competitions including Metrobank, Unesco, Art Association of the Philippines,Government Service Insurance System, Department of Environment and Natural Resources,National Commission on Culture and the Arts, SM Corporation, Philippine Visual Arts Festival,Philippine Art Awards, Gintong Kabataan Awards, Mandala Art Festival, and the Kulaysaysayanmural painting contest in Malolos City.

He has also joined international exhibitions in New York, Seoul, Singapore, andManila. His works have been featured in local and international books, magazines,newspapers, calendars, catalogs, postal stamps, product designs, and other places.

His paintings vary from conceptual realism to surrealism. He believes that, as an artist,he must have a sense of social responsibility along with a moral obligation to his viewers. That iswhy in most of his works, from award-winning pieces to innocent-looking still lifes, he always triesto say something.

Those with enough curiosity while looking at his works can easily find themselves

having a mute but clear conversation with Rex through his detailed canvases.

Rex also shares his talent by teaching younger artists in different parts of thePhilippines through lectures, seminars, workshops and private tutorials.

Being familiar with different media made him a versatile artist but he also lovesexperimenting with and exploring nontraditional materials in his mixed media and 3D sculptures.As an artist, he wants to be known through works that are not necessarily commercially inclinedbut founded on substance and values.

“I respect good names,” Rex said. “I admire great works.”
