Cobo Center introduces a new website
Cobo Center recently introduced a new website and is presenting its new look and features. With
enhanced accessibility features, a more modern platform, downloadable images, and information cat-
egories, the website redesign is more easily navigable for attendees, planners and exhibitors looking
to do business with Cobo.
The fresh look and user-friendly footer navigation are not the only new features to the website. New
ADA-compliant accessibility features allow people with vision problems to better view the page, screen
reader quick links including "skip to content," and pause buttons for videos and slide shows. The web-
site accessibility page also gives viewers recommendations for requesting assistance.
Our goal with the new website is to provide visitors and customers with an easier way to learn about
Cobo Center. We hope you will enjoy the new site.
Spike in major events boosts operating revenue for Cobo CenterCobo Center increased events booked from 166 to
244 and revenue from $5.5 million to $13.8 million
from 2013 to 2018, said Cobo General Manager
Claude Molinari. The center forecasts revenue of
$14.25 million for this year.
The increase in major events at Cobo Center has
boosted operations revenue and contributed to a
resurgence in vitality for downtown Detroit. Events
such as the FIRST Robotics Championship, the NAACP, SME Rapid, the SAE World Congress Experience,
and the National Society of Black Engineers are big meetings that bring large crowds and consider-
able economic impact.
"We've got a very strong 2019 as well," said Molinari. "The facility has undergone a massive renova-
tion and the city of Detroit — especially Midtown and downtown - has been revitalized. We are very
proud of our sales and events team."
Cobo Center had an exhilarating few days in early June when lead-
ers from corporations around the world gathered to move closer
toward a circular global economy at the Sustainable Brands Detroit
2019 (SB19Detroit) conference. It is the second time Cobo Center
has hosted the event. The first was in 2017. Sustainable Brands is
an association of many of the world's largest businesses, invested in
meeting social and environmental challenges as an essential driver
of brand innovation, value creation and positive impact.
our
"We are always thrilled to host this conference in Detroit," said
Claude Molinari, Cobo Center. general manager. "Just as Sustainable
Brands is working to inspire, engage and equip today's business
and brand leaders to prosper in a sustainable future, we hope Cobo
Center's focus on sustainability will lead the way to a better future
for the convention industry and for Detroit."
Sustainable Brands 2019 at Cobo Center was the first zero waste
event for the venue, a real milestone for Cobo's Green Committee.
Established in 2011, the Green Committee began with a Green
Venues Michigan certification from the state, and went on to achieve
the Event Industry Council's ASTM/APEX certification in 2015. It was
the ninth US venue to do so.
"The Green Committee in Cobo Center has been a full team effort
since 2011, when no waste was being diverted from the facility,"
said Molinari. "Every year we enhance the program fueled by the
passion and creativity of the team. This is our first conference where
the team achieved 100% waste diversion, but it will not be the last."
SB19Detroit workshops and conference tracks led 2000 attendees
through presentations and conversations designed to give them the
tools needed to reposition their organizations for success.
