School Captains:Aidan P (5A)Amelie O (5B)Juliet P (5M)Matthew C (5M)

P&C MeetingI look forward to seeing many parents at tonight’s P&C Meeting which is the Annual General Meeting. The meeting will be held at 7.30 pm in the Music Room and there will be a presentation of the school’s 2018 NAPLAN results.

On behalf of the staff and students, I would like to thank all of the parents who have attended P&C Meetings this year and been involved in discussions that make our school a better place. I would especially like to thank the P&C Executive and Committee Coordinators who have worked tirelessly this year to provide opportunities and resources for the staff and students at NBPS. In particular, there are many parents who have dedicated an enormous amount of time, energy and expertise serving on the P&C who are stepping down from their positions this year. A special thank you will be given to them for their generosity and service to the school tonight.

Year 6 Mini FeteThank you for your support of the Year 6 Mini Fete which raised $3869.45. The funds will be used to buy the Year 6 Farewell Gift to the school. This year, our Year 6 students are providing a buddy seat for the playground and a set of 3D printers for Stage 3 classrooms.

Semester 2 ReportsReports will be sent home to parents on Friday 14 December. Teachers have prepared these reports professionally and I have been very impressed by the quality of comments made. Reading your child’s report with them is a wonderful way to help them reflect on their achievements, learning, participation in school life and work habits throughout the semester. Our school values of respect, responsibility and personal best contribute to each student’s success as a learner.

Congratulations to Brian A (6B), whose Water Polo team won the Gold Medal in their division at the NSW State Water Polo Championships 2018, held at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre last weekend.

Being part of a band is a wonderful opportunity for all students. The many skills they learn (such as increased concentration and self-discipline) carry over into all parts of their lives.

Research confirms the benefits of learning a musical instrument. It develops a life-long skill and offers children a means of enjoyment and self-expression. But there are real challenges that sit alongside the benefits of learning an instrument, such as finding time and motivation to practise.

Earlier this term, our band students began a 30 Day Practise Challenge. The challenge was to practise playing their band instrument at home for 30 consecutive days in a row, without any missed days. If a day of rehearsal was missed, students reset their total to zero and began all over again. We are proud at announce that a number of our students have entered our Hall of Fame by successfully completing this challenge.

Congratulations to the following hardworking and very dedicated students. We’re very proud of the responsibility, self-discipline and perseverance that you have demonstrated:

Please note that the Band tryout dates for 2019 are• 2018 Senior Band members - Thursday 31 January 7.45am• 2018 Concert Band members & new students - Friday 1 February 10.00am• 2018 Junior Band members - Wednesday 30 January 11.40am

The Bay Times

T-ball ResultsHomerunnersCaptain: Ewan OMVP: Patrick BOn Friday, we played Neutral Bay 2 and we won 20 - 15. It was a very close game, as we were down three players and the other team had ten. We showed good sportsmanship and strived to do our best in the field. I chose Patrick because he hit some home runs and fielded very well. Overall, even though we were down three players, Neutral Bay 1 was still the stronger team.

StrikersCaptain: Alistair HMVP: Dylan TOn Friday, we played Neutral Bay 1 and lost 15 - 20. This year, all of 2 improved, and our batting was great. Dylan deserved M.V.P because he had some great homeruns and got some catches. All in all, we’ve had a brilliant year.

Double OutsCaptain: Luke SMVP: Krishan POn Friday, we played Middle Harbour 1. We won 19 - 17. We were pretty good at fielding and batting. The other team was really good with teamwork, especially when they caught Tom out. I chose Krishan because he was an enthusiastic and helpful player.

MVPsCaptain: Sammy WMVP: Daniel BWe played Middle Harbour 2 and the score was 37 to Neutral Bay and 3 to Middle Harbour. We played a good game and were really good in our fielding.

StealersCaptain: Shinna TMVP: Lucile TThe score was 30 - 12 our way. I think we could have better teamwork as there was lots of arguing during the game. Some people even argued with the umpire. Lucile did a great job when she was hitting.

SlidersCaptain: Lachlan B-CMVP: Chloe WOn Friday, we were playing Cammeray 4. It was a great game. We won 27 - 8. They were only learning as this was their first game.

Mrs J. Hudson - 2H Class TeacherMiss S. Butcher - KB Class Teacher

As we count down the final days left of Term 4, the KB children are feeling very proud and excited about the wonderful first year of school we have shared together. The Kindergarten children have progressed so much over the year and are eager to continue challenging themselves as they begin a new year.

In Maths, we are learning to compare lengths directly and indirectly. This week the KB children measured different classroom items using informal units. We investigated items that were shorter and longer than a pencil and recorded our information on SeeSaw. We completed Christmas art using our measurement skills and sorted strips of green paper from longest to shortest to construct our own Christmas trees.

Year 2 have been participating in the Swim Scheme program this week. The students have loved getting in the water North Sydney Pool, such a beautiful and iconic location!

Mr W. Colebatch - 5C Class Teacher

This week, 3D and all Year 3 classes have been creating stop motion animations with Mr Wright on our iPads. We worked really hard to create smooth movies that looked like real cartoons. It was important not to get our hands in the films! In the spirit of ‘Buddy’ the octopus, we thought outside the box, were creative and inventive and collaborated to problem solve. We really enjoyed watching our movies and we’re really looking forward to adding the sound effects in iMovie next week.

We have been learning to juggle this term in 5C! Students have learnt these skills in a progression that helps them to build the skills required to juggle three balls confidently. We have had lots of laughs, fun and smiles as 5C have enjoyed exploring an exciting new challenge.
