M O N D AY SStars of Tomorrow NEW!with Amy ColemanGrades: 1–3$375Do you love to sing? Then this is the class for you! Build con-fidence, improve vocal technique and choose the songs you’d like to learn or practice, all while having fun in a safe, encour-aging and nurturing setting. Whether you want to gain more confidence singing for an audience, work on a particular audi-tion piece or just sing for the joy of it, this class will incorpo-rate fun vocal exercises, breathing techniques and connecting with the lyrics’ meaning as well as with your audience. Class will culminate with a celebration where each student can per-form one or more of their songs for each other and parents/guests. Amy Coleman brings 20+ years experience teaching voice to adults and children, has worked as a Teaching Art-ist within the New York City Schools and is an accomplished singer and actor as well as past winner of two Best Vocalist of the Year Awards from Backstage Magazine.

Puppet Making and Puppet Theatre NEW!with Johanna Hamm!Grades K–2$375In this class, you will learn how to make a puppet out of very simple materials such as paper, plaster, papier-mâché and paint. We will spend the first few weeks making puppets and building a puppet theatre and then work together as puppet-eers and writers to create and perform one or more plays. We will use a video camera to document the making of the play and the performance itself, so you will have the opportunity to be on the other side of the stage and become a filmmaker.

Cooking Nut and Gluten Freewith Tuesday MinorGrades: K–5$375Each week the junior chefs will make delicious foods, bake tasty treats, and learn about meal planning using the food pyramid. Our recipes will be inspired by the childrens food studies at school. The After3 cooking curriculum will supple-ment the children’s school curriculum. There will be many recipes explored during the Native American, New Amster-dam, Early America studies, and much much more. We will be incorporating fundamentals of math, science, reading and arts as we make our yummy treats. All this while reinforcing healthy eating habits and teaching children to make good food choices. Each week we will add a recipe or two to a cookbook so everyone else can enjoy our favorite recipes. (Course fee includes $25 Materials fee)

Karatewith Amelia SheftallGrades: K–8$350Seido Karate is a traditional Japanese style of karate. The physi-cal training in Seido can be challenging, emphasizing progres-sive development of strength, flexibility and aerobic capacity.

In addition to developing students with the highest level of physical skill, Seido aims to develop individuals of the highest moral character. We invite you to learn more about the World Seido Karate Organization, its founder & leadership, and our philosophy that makes Seido Karate so applicable to today’s life. The Nest + M after school karate program incor-porates warming up, stretching, review of fundamental karate techniques, formal kata, meditation and Japanese terminology in each class. Rollerbladingwith Kids on WheelsGrades: K–8$375Be part of the rolling fun! Expert coaches from KIDS ON WHEELS will take you into the playground for some awesome afterschool skate time. The beginners will be introduced to the basic moves of balance, starting, stopping and turns. We will also have an advanced group which will play hockey and learn more difficult maneuvers. Open Level Chesswith JovanGrades: K–9$475The class uses projectors to explain strategies of chess, including openings, tactics,and endgames. Groups are formed by chess knowledge. Children learn all aspects of the game,Besides les-sons done by chess teacher kids will learn to focus by solving chess puzzles and by playing against similar opponents and analyzing their games with the chess-master. In addition to chess, other mind games will be introduced towards the end class to improve problem solving and critical thinking.

Crazy Chemworks and Secret Agent Lab NEW! Grades: 1–2$375Pt I - Come and spark imaginative learning with some Mad Chemistry. Watch as we combine elements and make the fizz, crackle and change color! We'll delve into molecules and chemical reactions that produce light, gas and even slime. Some of the weekly topics in this session include: Lab Works, Junior Reactors, P.H. Phactor, Slime Time, The Glow Show, Dry Ice Capades, Icky Sticky Stuff, Chemistry Corner, The Mystery of Chem and Kitchen Chemistry. Pt II - Step into the shoes of a detective and uncover the sci-ence involved in evidence gathering and analysis. You will probe the science of tracking as you stamp out scenarios and uncover codes in this session. Some of the weekly topics in this session include: Crime Lab, Cracking the Case, The Science of Security, Agent Undercover, Sleuths on the Scene, Funky Fo-rensics, Spy Academy, Junior Detection and Whodunit?

Non-Digital Game Designwith Reynaldo VargasGrades: 1–3$375Non-Digital Game Design is a hands-on workshop class for younger students to introduce them to the challenges and intricacies of game design. Games, both digital and non-digital, are fundamentally similar in terms of rules, goals and complex systems. Teaching using non-digital game design removes the hurdle of the computer-user problem that stu-dents will have when starting out. This class will have students play and iterate existing games as design practice. Every week students will create their own non-digital games in teams.

Flight Club-Aviation with Hobby Questwith Hobby QuestGrades: 1–3$375Calling all fliers–do you love airplanes? Build our very own aircraft and watch them fly overhead!First we’ll kick things off with the ZING WING. Using a high speed slingshot launcher, this boomerang shaped flier soars to heights as great as five stories before gliding back down to you! Then we’ll launch the classic monoplane J3 PIPER. Featuring a tension driven propeller and a high mounted wing configuration, this model is built for power and extra long flight durations. From there we’ll explore the science of flight in our special aviation lab. Using exciting and engaging hands-on experiments, we’ll learn the ins and outs of aeronautical engineering, from how a plane can lift off and stay airborne to the many ways you can alter aircraft to achieve maximum flight time, maneuverability and special features. Putting all that knowledge to good use, we’ll DESIGN AND BUILD ORIGINAL AIRCRAFT—cre-ating, testing and flying our own one-of-a-kind inventions. And for our finale we’ll build the DRAGONFLY, featuring an electric motor and an expansive wingspan, this ever-popular model boasts hearty glide stability and flight times as long as 90 seconds. Intermediate Mandarinwith Wei Bo For Continuing StudentsGrades: 1–4$450This course is for students who were in the program for one year or students that have some exposure to Mandarin.) All lower school students have Mandarin once a week as part of the regular school curriculum. Wei Bo is a great resource, teaching language and culture through fun, engaging meth-ods and activities. Students will learn how to read and write Chinese characters. They will have the benefit of Wei Bo’s own textbooks, flashcards, practice homework books and DVDs, including pronunciation help and computer-based language skill-building games. Limited enrollment. Introduction to Paper Quilling NEW!Grades: 2-6$375Paper quilling or paper filigree is an art or craft where the artist creates intricate designs by shaping and gluing narrow strips of paper. This art requires patience, neatness and ability to visualize patterns. It produces amazingly beautiful results that can be used for a variety of purposes: item decorating, handmade greeting cards, three dimensional miniatures, art pieces and even jewelry.

Hip Hopwith KPD–Kelly Peters DanceGrades: 2–8$375Ok now lets have fun with Hip Hop! This class will be divided up between absolute beginners, intermediate and advanced students. If your child just wants to dance and have fun, this is the class for them. Come with your friends and learn to dance and build self-confidence and work ethic while learning about the culture of Hip Hop dance. The Intermediate / Advanced level appeals to those who love to dance and OR have had some dance experience. Training will bring you to a level where you can follow choreography with others.Kelly will teach basic dance movement in five forms of street dance that fall under the umbrella of Hip Hop. There will be “Breaking”, “Popping”, “Locking”, “House”, Party Dancing from the 80’s and 90’s as well commercial Hip Hop Chore-ography. At the end of each semester each class will present a performance / demonstration of all they’ve learned.

Movie and iMoviewith Junior LabGrades: 3–8$375Explore the relationship between photography and video. Students learn about the evolution from still to moving im-age through hands-on exercises. We develop our own short stories, write scripts and create storyboards. After all those preparatory exercises students collaborate with each other on filming - being directors, camera opereators and actors. The process of editing in iMovie is covered in detail.

The Mystery of MagicWith Adam CardoneGrades: 3–6$375In this course the students will learn what it takes to be a mas-ter magician. Most people think that learning the trick is all it takes to fool an audience but Cardone the magician will teach

the real secrets that can’t be bought in a magic store. Sleight of hand, timing, voice and speech, pantomime, psychology, magic history, and the basics of theatre arts will be taught to make you not only a magicituesdayan, but a master entertain-er. Beware, some of the tricks taught will be easy but some will require serious practice. Cardone will be performing at a fundraiser on April 19th at Nest+m. Students in this course will be given a a chance to perform up on stage with him too. Cardone has been performing magic on a professional level for 23 years and holds a BFA in Theatre Arts from Carnegie Mellon University. Cardonethemagician.com.

Homework Club Jr. and Homework Club Sr.Grades: K–5$250This class is for kids who would like to spend their after schooltime doing homework. We have qualified instructors to sup-port children doing their homework. For children that don’thave homework, they will be kept busy with games or freeplay. Kids are separated in two groups. Homework Club Jr. isk-2 and Homework Club Sr. is 3–5.

Middle School Study Hall / Math Tutoring NEW! with Mike HeGrades: 6-8 $250Middle School Parents – you asked for it – we listened. Start-ing this semester After3 is holding a middle school only Study Hall where your child can enjoy a quiet place to study, do homework and/or receive math tutoring from Mike He, who worked for six years as a high school math teacher in his na-tive country of China where he graduated from Teachers Col-lege with a degree in Mathematics. So put aside your fears of your child asking YOU for help with the "hard" middle school math. We know you haven't opened a math book since you graduated school yourself! Don't worry. Mike is here to help. Mike's own daughter is a middle school Nest+m student and he is well versed the curriculum.

T U E S D AY SSwimming NEW! with Physique Swim SchoolGrades: 1-8$450Learning to swim takes time, practice, and patience, but the re-wards are tremendous. The faculty of Physique Swim School, believe that swimming is an essential part of a full life. Us-ing unique and dynamic teaching methods, the experienced staff will take Nest+m kids the whole way from beginners to master-swimmers. Upon completion of a swim level, each stu-dent receives a certificate of achievement, they then have it as a constant reminder of what they have achieved, and what they are capable of achieving in the future. More advanced students will train as if on a swim team where they will learn how to swim better, faster and efficiently. There are two essential parts to successful swimming – technique and training. Technique

will be addressed first as a foundation. Once your child has se-cured good technique, appropriative workouts become more effective. These workouts will combine stroke/ kicking drills, and interval sets, which together will make training more ef-fective and fun. Children are divided up into five groups based on skill level. Instructor to Child ratio is 1:4 at the beginner levels and increases slightly with level.

Splat, Boom, Pow! (Cartooning)with Mark HurwittGrades: K–2$375In this class students will learn how to draw their favorite car-toon characters and how to invent new characters of their own creation. We will begin with basic drawing and cartooning les-sons and then develop our characters and cartoon stories. By

the end of the semester every young artist in the class will have completed a sketch book of their own original work that will show their progression through the program. Most of all, we’ll have fun!

Creating Pop-Up Story Books and Learning German NEW!with Johanna HammGrades: K-2$375In this class, you will learn basic German sentences and words by making a bilingual pop-up book. We will create individual books and stories using all the vocabulary that you want to learn. Through writing them and visualizing these words in the book, you will be able to memorize them more easily, as you make visual and literal connections with them.

Super Soccer StarsGrades: K–2$400At Super Soccer Stars, it is our goal to teach soccer skills in a fun, non-competitive, educational environment. Our philoso-phy is to use soccer to nurture, to build self-confidence, and to develop teamwork in every class. Young Architects Club– Google SketchUp Prowith Howard SternGrades: 3–6$375Students will learn the tools to create floor plans, buildings, chairs and other objects using Google Sketch Up. With the push/pull tool, you can make floor plans 3 dimensional. With the orbit tool, you can fly in, out, and around your project. With the paint tool materials, and colors can be added. Comics Club NEW!with Sophocles PlokamakisGrades: 3–6$375Think you know a lot about comics? Guess again! In this class students will learn to appreciate the language of comics, and how they work. Students will be introduced to comics from around the globe such as super hero comics from the U.S., Jap-anese Manga, European comics, Chinese Manwa and Korean Manhwa. Read comics from all genres such as action, sci-fi, comedy, magical girls, comic strips, martial arts, fantasy, biog-raphies, non-fiction, mysteries, westerns and sports! Learn the history of comic books and their secret origin! Students will also learn how to create rough drafts for comic pages (thumb-nails) and how to design COOL COMIC PAGES! Study fa-mous maverick cartoonists from the late 19th century to the present. Delve into the minds and hands of the pro cartoon-ist by learning to use professional comic art tools to learn the techniques and tricks of the trade. Everyone will learn new things in this course. Fashion Designer Bootcamp NEW! with Kasia WisniewskiGrades: 3–6$375How do designers bring their ideas to life? This class explores the elements of fashion design and illustration. Like your fa-vorite designers, we’ll talk about inspiration, explore color, and create sketches, then we’ll bring those ideas to life using simple sewing techniques with BIG impact. We’ll also work on special techniques to take your designs to the next level, like appliqué and embroidery. Found Fun NEW!with Albeliza PerezGrades: K–2$375This class explores every day objects in fine art & crafts with an emphasis on re-purposing everyday materials to make some-thing new. We will talk about recycling, folk art and DIY cul-ture. We'll encourage students to think outisde of conventional art materials and will include projects in mobile-making, paper mache sculptures, plant terrariums, textile dyeing and collages.

Beginning Mandarin with Wei BoGrades: K–2$450(This class is for the students continuing from last semes-ter and new students to Wei Bo.) The stu-dents will be mentored to produce both (1) a tri-fold poster of the team journey and (2) a LEGO model with at least one movable piece comprised of 400 to 1,000 LEGO parts during the season. This course fosters teamwork and critical thinking. This will be a fun journey where imagination and creativity are mapped to building a movable machine.

Fencingwith Sheridan Fencing AcademyGrades: 2–8$400Students enjoy a step-wise, intensive introduction to the tech-nique, rules, strategy and improvisational beauty of the sport of fencing. They enjoy the learning process and take pride and pleasure in their efforts by focusing on the rewards, not the labor involved. Through activities and exercises they develop fundamental skills in a way that brings fun and exuberance to the learning process. From the first traditional salute at the beginning of class to bouting practice at its end, the focus is on good sportsmanship, self-regulation, athleticism and the magic of the swash and buckle. They will also look at the art books and Manga (Japanese for Comics) that the anime version came from. Common themes used in Ani-me and manga will be also be discussed as well as how manga and anime is made by the professionals. Debate Clubwith EliseGrades: 5–8$375Debate Club seeks students who like to research, organize notes and argue about current events and important topics! (Past topics have included military drones, NYC bike lanes, charter schools and carbon emissions cap and trade pro-grams.) We are a competitive team with league tournaments on 5-7 Saturdays throughout the school year. Aside from our weekly meetings, students have the responsibility to do 1 hour a week at home to prepare for tournaments. Rock Band with Gowanas Music ClubGrades: 6–10$450On day one, we will begin with a meet and greet followed by organizing the students into bands of specific genres, taking into account each one?s chief interest. Students will be asked to make suggestions as to song selection and the instructors will recommend songs as well. Original songs are definitely encouraged, and considered on an individual basis by each band. Chord charts for the songs will be written with the guid-ance of the instructors. On the upcoming sessions, the focus will remain on learning the songs and individual parts along with microphone technique. The charts will eventually be re-moved so that students learn to commit the songs to memory. Finally, a band name is chosen by each group and we discuss the band image, and interacting with an audience. We will provide the instruments and other equipment unless your

child wants to bring in their own. To ensure the show is adequately prepared, the students will be asked to do some preparation at home. The teachers will also spend time examining the individual parts carefully with the students. The final sessions will be dedicated to refining the arrangements and adding the performance element. The bands will do several dress rehearsals, and everyone gets to ROCK OUT at the concert!

Students will learn the history of the most popular card game on the planet from a duelist who started playing when the game first came out. They will get to see and play with hundreds of the original Yugioh! cards in person. Students will get to read the Yugioh! Manga, watch the anime and the first Yugioh! animated film. Several win-ning strategies of the game will be discussed, and each student will be encouraged to develop their own deck around a strat-egy that works best for them.
