The temperatures in the ocean are rising. This higher temperature will cause an increase of anchovies and sardines. However it will cause there to be less herring and cod. Hence cod, haddock, herring and capelin will move eastwards to colder waters. And also the snow crab is moving north and it has seen in the Barents Sea. Aquaculture is like farm fishing, weather influences life in the ocean. Higher temperature can also lead to decreased oxygen levels. The cod is spawning in warm water in the south and after that they go to colder water in north. Now the cod only need go to Tromsø for spawning because of global warming. And that’s a problem for the fishermen and the people in south Norway because they aren’t getting cod in the south. There are cod but not as much as in the past. And maybe the cod are going so far north that they are moving away from Norway. Why is the cod so important here in Norway? The fishermen are losing money, a lot of money. The cod have been a traditional fish for many years in Norway. The cod is a very important protein resource. Climate change is affecting our ocean. Fishing and aquaculture is Norway’s second most important industry. The temperatures in the ocean are rising.
