NEIU PROJECT STEPTo meet district and State needs for increasing teacher qualifications, Project STEP will offer cohort and non-cohort Tuition Benefit Programs for up to 180 teachers in Summer 2017. Project STEP cohort program will host four cohorts for Bilingual or English as a Second Language (BIL/ESL) SPED Approval (available to SPED teachers and school support personnel), with face-to-face, online and hybrid instruction. Cohorts will be offered in a Cicero-Berwyn based location, and at NEIU. The Project STEP non-cohort Tuition Benefit Program will support out-of-cohort partici-pants to complete requirements for bilingual/ESL endorse-ment or dual credit qualifications for high school teachers. Benefits for all participants include:

For Project STEP cohort program

• Tuition-waived courses through NEIU

• Up to $100 reimbursement per course for required textbooks

• Reimbursement for endorsement application and language testing fees (before September 30, 2017)

For Project STEP Non-cohort Tuition Benefit Program

• Receive tuition waivers for taking applicable courses at NEIU through August 10, 2017.

• Receive tuition reimbursement up to $1,250 per course for taking applicable courses at other universitiesthrough August 30, 2017.

• Receive up to $100 reimbursement per course for textbooks

• Reimbursement for endorsement application and language testing fees (before September 30, 2017).

Project STEP is a collaborative effort between Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) and the NEIU Center for College Access and Success, through NCLB-Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) funding. The project will be housed in and managed by the NEIU Center for College Access and Success, who will administer and manage the project in accordance with official NEIU policies ensuring that no person will encounter discrimination in education on the basis of color, handicap, national origin, religion, gender, disability, or veteran's status. All activities will be completed by September 30, 2017.

BECOME A PROJECT STEP PARTICIPANT

To become a Project STEP participant, candidates will complete an application demonstrating their educational plan and commitment to meeting endorsement or qualifi-cation requirements. Once accepted, candidates will be required to provide a one-time $30 NEIU application fee and $50 one-time STEP commitment fee to secure their NEIU application and project participation, and subse-quently receive tuition and fee benefits.
