2 Compositions (compositions must be discussed in class before students are asked to write)
All writing exercises must begin with a class level conversation and words arising from the discussion must be
noted on the blackboard (The words may be suggested by the children). This scaffolding as pre – teaching
helps children undertake their written tasks independently.
Argumentative essays to be introduced in Class VIII , on issues that the children can identify with (e.g. “School
Uniform must be abolished”. Homework must be made compulsory. etc.)

to the class level. Each child should have access to the picture.
2 letters: (One informal and one formal letter) Topics for letters should be written within the range of children‟s experiences (example: letters to parent,
friends, relatives, neighbours etc.) Topics for formal letters should be within the range of children‟s experiences (example, letters to Principal,
Teacher, Editor, Librarian, Community function etc.) Students should be made familiar with block pattern as well as the traditional pattern of letter writing because
the Council accepts both.
