The colours yellow, black and white are very bold and stand out. The colours suggest a warning due to the fact a warning sign consists of these three colours. This compliments the rest of the magazine showing the reader what type of style the magazine uses.

The image of the band ‘You Me At Six’ show them very straight faced and very serious also portraying the feeling of the magazine. Their all wearing black and white which are also the magazine colours relating them back to the magazine. The white back ground makes the band stand out, while their leather jackets suggest ‘rebellion’ which also relates to the theme of the magazine.

This is the axis of orientation seen in the Guttenberg principle, which catches are attention first allowing us to know the magazine is going to be mainly about You Me At Six.

The rule of thirds is also used, because if we drew three lines horizontally it would capture the most interesting aspects of the contents page like the picture.

The columns allow the contents page to be more organised. Also its easier to read for the readers because it’s all in small bits and in one place.

The numbers allow the reader to turn to the page that interests them the most, and saves them time looking through the magazine for the page they want. Helps navigate the reader to the pages they want. This is also a positive because it saves the reader time and effort knowing they can just turn to the page they want instead of finding it themselves.

Here is an advert showing how you can subscribe to the magazine for a certain price. This is telling the reader to buy the magazine again but at a certain price saving them money which is very appealing to the age range of the magazine 16-21 (students) who are probably on a tight budget.

As a reader we are instantly drawn to the ‘win’ sign which stands out due to the fact its in different colours to the rest of the magazine. Its also a different style of font also making to stand out. I think this is a positive for the magazine because it grabs the readers attention knowing that they can gain something from reading this magazine.

If I could improve on one thing it would be the writing used in the magazine. As a reader I find the font very boring and small and not very attractive. To ensure my magazines more attractive I would use a bigger font so it looks as if there’s less text to read.

Similar to the Kerrang magazine Uncut also uses the rule of thirds making the image used the central attraction. Due to the fact this is the only image used tells the audience that Marc Bolan will be the magazines main feature. Also it shows the magazine is aimed at an older audience 20+ through the lack of images.

The page numbers also stand out, once again navigating the reader to the page they want specifically. They also fit into the colour scheme giving it a clear reference to the magazine that the readers reading.

Unlike Kerrang Uncut doesn’t feature a subscription offer which I think is a weakness. To improve this magazine I would put a subscription offer on the contents page allowing the reader to

buy more of the magazine but at a certain price.

The background used is of a field in an open environment suggesting the magazine takes more of a relaxed approach to music and more of an open approach.

The guitar in the image is shown to be a classical guitar reminding the audience what kind of music the magazine features which is classical rock music. This once again suggest that the magazine is aimed at an older audience.

The font used is very formal and not very attractive which compliments the rest of the magazine and the

style it uses.

The magazine also uses columns making the contents page very organised and easy to follow, which could compliment the rest of the

magazine suggesting the magazine is organised making it easier to read. After looking at both of the contents pages I have chosen to use columns on my contents page because it makes it a lot easier for the reader to read and it also looks more presentable.

The word ‘contents’ is very clear and at the top of the page establishing what

page the readers on.
