like a house!○ Something was in their way! Oh no! Act scared.○ It was a big river! Pretend to make waves with your arms, or swim in water, etc.○ God helped them cross the river! Yay! Shout and hop and act excited!

CLEAN UP TIME | 1 Minute

● Begin clean up about 15 minutes into service. The presenter will give you a 5 minute warning before Large Group starts.

● Say: It’s clean up time! Let’s all clean up as FAST we can while I count down from 10 to 1. Ready, set….go!

● Slowly countdown from 10 to 1 until kids have cleaned up toys. Then circle up on the floor, or line up at the door.

Transition to Large Group: Now let’s get ready to hear about how this story in Large Group! Line up at the door, and let’s go sit on the big carpet.

God is always with us

(Point up) (trace a big circle (point to self) with your finger)

● (Hold up the Bible.) This is God’s story. Out of ALL the stories in the world, this is the most important. Do you know what it’s called? (The Bible!) It’s God’s Rescue plan! It shows us how He rescued us from all the wrong things in the world.

● (Make a big round “world” with your arms) In the beginning, God made the whole world and everything in it, and it was GOOD. Let’s all say, “It was good!”

● (Pretend to swim in the water) God made all the water in the oceans, and rivers, and lakes. Let’s pretend to swim in the water!

● (Pat the “dirt” on the ground) God made all the dirt and trees and flowers. Let’s pat the ground and feel the dirt in our hands! Now put your arms up and be a tree!

● (Pretend to fly and tweet like a bird) God made all kinds of animals, like birds! Let’s pretend to flap our wings and fly like a bird!

● (Hold up two fingers) Then God made two people: Adam and Eve. They got to live in a beautiful garden, and walk and talk with God. And it was GOOD.

● (Make a “ssss” sound and pretend to be a snake) But THEN, something very, VERY sad happened. A snake tricked Adam and Eve, and they disobeyed God. Then, all the wrong things came into the world, like sickness, and sadness and death. Show me your sad face.

● (Put your hands on your heart) Even though Adam and Eve disobeyed God, God loved them anyway! He planned a great rescue so that Adam and Eve, and you and me, could be close to God again! Do you know who the Rescuer is? (Let kids say: Jesus!)

GET READY LARGE GROUP CONNECT TIME

Transition to Connect Time: Now we’re going to go do story time in our rooms. Tip toe like a quiet little mouse and line up by your leader!

● Say: Now it’s time to pray to God. When we pray, that means we talk to him, and he actually LISTENS to us, and hears our words! So let’s talk to God right now. Close your eyes, and say these words after me.

● Pray: Hi God! We love you so much. Thank you for always being with us. Thank you for rescuing us too, and keeping us safe. Aaaa-men!

● Set up worship: Let’s show God how thankful we are by worshipping him! Everybody stand up, and get ready to sing and dance!

● Music Video: Let All That I Am Praise the Lord

● Say: God loved his family so much, he wanted them to live in a special new home….but it was really, really far away! So they had to walk for a really long time! Let’s pretend to walk!

● (Click to play river loop.) One day, they came to a big river! Do you think they could jump over it? Nope. Do you think they could go around it? No way! The only way to get past the river was to go THROUGH it! But it was so big and powerful that they couldn’t swim!

● Say: God’s family had a leader, and his name was Joshua. Let’s say “Joshua”. Joshua knew that he would have to be really brave, and ask God to help them get across the river! Let’s watch a video to see what happened. As you watch, figure out HOW God is with them!

● Video: The Israelites Cross the Jordan ● Ask: Did Joshua and God’s family make it across the Jordan River? Yes, they did! Did they do it

all by themselves though? No, they didn’t do it by themselves; they had help from God! Remember, Because God was always with them! And God is always with us! Let’s say that with our motions: God is always with us.

● Say: Joshua and the Israelites had to do something kind of scary. God told them to step in the river, even with all that water flowing around them! They could have gotten washed away! Let’s all stand up and pretend like we’re standing in a river, with water flowing around us! (Act like your legs are wobbling and the water is trying to wash you away.)

● Ask: Now, did God let them get washed away? No, he protected them! They were brave, and they did what God told them. So God did exactly what he said he would do! He made a dry path for them to walk through!

● Say: God was ALWAYS with his family, and he helped them get across the river. God is always with us too! Let’s say that with our motions: God is always with us.

CREATE AND PLAY | 10+ Minutes

STORY TIME | 5 minutes

Have kids sit in a circle on the carpet. One volunteer can discuss the story with kids, while another volunteer prepares the snack.

Lay the blue table cloth on the ground. Have kids sit on one side of the cloth. ● Say: God promised Joshua and the Israelites that they could go to their home, the promised land!

But the Jordan river was too deep to cross. Have kids make a sad face. Then lay the craft paper on top of the table cloth (land).

● Say: But God told them to step into the water and the water would stop. Have the kids walk across the brown paper.

Put 12 stones (sponges) on the brown paper.● Call out kids by name to pick up one sponge and pretend it’s a stone (let them take turns)● Say: God told Joshua to tell 12 men to get 12 stones and build them into a special pile, so they

would remember that God is always with us. Let kids stack the “stones” or put them in a pile.

Ask:● Was God ALWAYS with Joshua and his people? Yes! Is God ALWAYS with US? Yes! ● Review the Big Idea with motions: God is always with us!

● Pass out graham crackers or goldfish, and let kids eat at tables. This is a time to personally connect with kids and find out about their day, not just focusing on the story.
