HUSKERS.COM The Nebraska soccer team aims to hold on to its third-place Big 12 standing when the Huskers (12-5-1, 4-2-1) conclude the regular season with a critical conference match at Colorado (7-9-2, 3-5-1) this Friday. Kickoff from Boulder’s Prentup Field is set for 4 p.m. CST in a televised game on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain (DirecTV 683, Dish Network 414). Veteran play-by-play announcer Marc Stout will call the action, while Marcelo Balboa, former captain of the U.S. men’s national team, will add color commentary. Live stats will be available on cubuffs.com. The Huskers are tied with Oklahoma for third place in the league standings and are looking to add to their NCAA Tournament resume. Nebraska most likely needs a win over the Buffs to solidify the No. 3 seed in next week’s Big 12 Tournament as Missouri and Texas are within two points of NU and OU in the conference race. The Huskers hold a No. 39 RPI in this week’s rankings and are ranked sixth in the NSCAA Central Region. After its 13th win of the year last Friday over Kansas, Nebraska has won its most games in a season since the 2005 team finished 14-8-1 and qualified for the NCAA Tournament, the Huskers’ last postseason berth. Head Coach John Walker has led the Huskers to at least 13 wins 12 times in the program’s 17-year history. Increasing its chances for an NCAA bid this Friday will not be an easy task, despite Colorado’s below .500 record of 7-9-2 (3-5-1 Big 12). The Buffs had back-to-back wins over No. 10 UCLA (1-0 2 OT in Boulder) and No. 6 Texas A&M (2-1 OT in College Station) in mid-September and have lost six matches by one goal. Colorado is playing with high stakes as the Buffs are attempting to keep its spot in next week’s Big 12 Tournament, which invites the top-eight teams from the final Big 12 standings. The Buffs are currently eighth, but just one point ahead of Baylor as the teams vie for the final spot in San Antonio. Nebraska’s Morgan Marlborough enters the last week of the regular season as one of the top players in the nation. The sophomore leads the Big 12 in nearly every offensive category, including points (43), goals (16) and assists (11), all totals that rank in the top five nationally (2nd in points, 3rd in goals, 4th in assists). The 2009 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, Marlborough had 21 goals and nine assists last season and has been on track to claim more honors in 2010. Marlborough played her first career Big 12 game in last year’s 1-0 defeat at Colorado and was held scoreless. Since then, she has a goal or assist in 13 of the past 18 Big 12 matches. Sophomore teammate Jordan Jackson has also been impressive in her second season, as the Overland Park, Kan., native ranks second in the Big 12 with 29 points on 10 goals and nine assists. Her assist total is tied for No. 2 in the conference and No. 17 in the NCAA, while her goal contribution is tied for fourth. Nebraska will head south to the Big 12 Tournament following this week’s regular-season finale. The single- elimination tournament begins Wednesday, Nov. 3 in San Antonio. The semifinals will take place Friday, Nov. 5, followed by the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 7. Scouting Colorado Colorado (7-9-2, 3-5-1) is battling to keep its season alive as it is clinging to the eighth and final spot in next week’s Big 12 Tournament. The Buffs defeated Kansas on Monday in Boulder, 2-1, with an overtime goal by freshman Anne Stuller. Colorado is 5-2-2 at Prentup Field this season, including its dramatic 1-0 double-overtime win over No. 10 UCLA on Sept. 19. The next week, the Buffaloes defeated No. 6 Texas A&M in College Station in 2-1 overtime thriller. Colorado’s other Big 12 win came over Iowa State in Boulder, 3-1. Junior Kate Russell leads the Buffs with 11 points on three goals and five assists. Senior Kym Lowry is also in double-digits with 10 points on three goals and four assists. Freshman Lizzy Herzl scored the game-winning goals against the 10th-ranked Bruins and sixth-ranked Aggies. Although the Buff offense ranks 10th in the Big 12 with 20 goals, CU has won several low-scoring affairs behind goalkeeper Annie Brunner. The freshman has started 16-of-17 matches this season, posting four shutouts with a 1.19 goals-against average and .730 save percentage. Colorado was 9-10 last season but faced a challenging non-conference schedule before it finished third in the Big 12 with a 6-4 record. The Buffaloes returned eight starters from that squad this fall. Head coach Bill Hempen is in his 11th season at Colorado. He has a 108-75-25 record in Boulder and is in his 22nd season overall of coaching after spending 11 years at Duke. Hempen’s career mark is an impressive 261-165-40.

Husker History Against the Buffaloes Nebraska leads the all-time series against Colorado, 7-6-2, but the Buffs have won the past four meetings, in a row, including a 1-0 win in Boulder last September. Nebraska’s last win over Colorado was a 2-1 victory at Prentup Field in 2005 when Jesse Bruch scored both goals for NU. The Huskers dominated the series early on, winning the first five match-ups from 1996 to 2000. Since then, NU is just 2-6-2 against the Buffs.

Huskers Rank No. 39 in Latest RPI Nebraska is No. 39 in this week’s RPI. Seven of the Huskers’ opponents rank in the top 50 (No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 11 Oklahoma State, No. 13 Arizona State, No. 26 New Mexico, No. 29 Texas, No. 42 Texas Tech and No. 50 Oklahoma). The Rating Percentage Index measures strength of schedule and how a team fares against that schedule. It is heavily considered when the NCAA selects its field for the NCAA Tournament. Last season, Nebraska finished with an RPI of 72.

Marlborough Ranks Among Nebraska’s, Nation’s Best Players Sophomore Morgan Marlborough ranks in the top 10 nationally in six offensive categories - total points (2nd, 43), points per game (3rd, 2.39), total goals (3rd, 16), goals per game (4th, 0.889), total assists (4th, 11) and assists per game (8th, 0.61). Despite playing in only 37 collegiate games, the Lee’s Summit, Mo., native has already risen to No. 7 on the school’s top 10 list with 37 career goals. Earlier this season, Marlborough had at least one goal in eight straight matches to break Christine Latham’s 11-year school record. While doing so, she was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 12, marking the fifth time she has earned a weekly conference award during her career. Marlborough has shown her all-around offensive game by also leading the Big 12 in assists this season with 11, just one away from 10th on the single-season all-time list. With 18 career assists, she is just four away from 10th on the career chart. This season, Marlborough has passed former Huskers Nikki Baker (2002-04), Kelly Rheem (1998-2001), Kori Saunders (1999-2002) and Jenny Benson (1996-2000) on the all-time goal chart. Christine Latham (1999-2002) is the school record keeper with 69 career goals. Although the all-time goal list is one of the most prominent charts, Marlborough holds her highest top-10 ranking with 10 multiple-goal games, tied for the fourth-most in school history with Kari Uppinghouse and

Lindsay Eddleman. She is also ninth in game-winning goals (7) and points (92).

Last season, Marlborough’s 49 points (21 goals, 7 assists) led a Husker scoring attack that ranked third in the NCAA with 3.10 goals per game, the highest scoring average by a Nebraska team since 2000 (4.0). Marlborough was named a freshman All-American and earned Big 12 Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Year awards.

The fifth-highest scorer in the NCAA last fall, Marlborough broke the freshman school record for single-season goals just 14 games into the season. She is just one of seven players in school history to produce multiple hat tricks in a career after she tied the single-game school record with four goals against Akron and then had three vs. Oklahoma.

Prior to the start of this season, Marlborough was named to the watch list for the 2010 Hermann Trophy, given annually to the nation’s best women’s collegiate soccer player, while she also claimed a spot on the 2010 Preseason All-Big 12 Team.

Jackson Among Top Offensive Players in the Big 12, NCAA Sophomore Jordan Jackson ranks second in the Big 12 and 18th nationally with 29 points following her three-point game in the 2-1 win over Kansas last Friday. Jackson has nine assists on the year, tied for second in the Big 12 and 17th in the NCAA. On Oct. 10, Jackson had the game-winning goal in Nebraska’s 4-2 come-from-behind win over Missouri, marking her seventh multiple-point game of the season. Jackson had two goals in Nebraska’s 3-1 win over Iowa on Sept. 19, following a two-assist performance in the 3-1 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 17 to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors. The sophomore scored her first two goals in the Sept. 6 win against IUPUI and has since been one of the biggest offensive threats in conference. Jackson worked her way into the lineup to start 14 of 20 games as a freshman, including the last 11. The forward scored five goals on the season, tied for the third-most on the team. Jackson added three assists, including one in Nebraska’s upset of No. 14 Texas A&M. She accounted for 13 points on the year.

Macdonald Moves Up All-Time Charts Senior Tara Macdonald broke Karina LeBlanc’s single-game save record with 13 saves in the 0-0 double-overtime tie at Oklahoma on Oct. 14. It has been the highlight of her strong senior season that has been plagued with injuries. Despite the setbacks, Macdonald is 7-3-1 this season with a 1.49 goals-against average and .795 save percentage. She has 103 career saves to rank sixth in school history. On Aug. 31, Macdonald was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week following her strong performances in wins over Loyola Chicago and Loyola Maryland. Macdonald’s player of the week award was the first of her career and the ninth for a Husker goalie in school history. A native of Austin, Texas, Macdonald turned in two shutouts in her first action of the 2010 season, as Nebraska downed the Ramblers (2-0) and the Greyhounds (2-0) three weeks ago. Macdonald totaled seven saves in the victories, including a four-save, complete-game shutout against Loyola Maryland before she fought through injuries in September and early October. The senior has recovered to start the past three games. Macdonald transferred from the University of Oklahoma in 2008. Despite battling injuries in just over one season at Nebraska, she has reached eighth on the school’s all-time top 10 lists for career saves with 70. She is also tied for seventh on the all-time win list with an 11-3-3 record as a Husker. Last season, Macdonald ranked fourth in the Big 12 Conference with 3.75 saves per game and totaled 45 on the year with a .763 save percentage.

Stevens Compiles 3-0 Big 12 Record Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Emma Stevens has battled for the starting goalkeeper spot and produced a 3-0 record in Big 12 play with wins over Texas, Iowa State and Missouri. Stevens had a career-high seven saves against the Cyclones and allowed only one goal against the Longhorns with five saves. That victory came on the heels of back-to-back wins over Cal State Fullerton and Iowa the previous week. The Corona, Calif., native is 5-1-0 overall with a 1.58 goals-against average and .684 save percentage. Stevens redshirted the 2009 campaign, but was impressive in the spring season that included a shutout over BYU. At Santiago High School, Stevens accumulated over 6,000 minutes in net and notched 383 saves. As a senior, she posted 121 saves while leading the Sharks to a 19-4-2 record. Stevens earned two shutouts in the state tournament, before Santiago was eliminated in the quarterfinals. She claimed 11 shutouts during the season.

Romero Scores First-Career Goal, Named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week Freshman Ari Romero saved her first career goal for an opportune time as her rebound header in the 92nd minute gave Nebraska a 5-4 overtime victory at Texas Tech on Oct. 3 and earned her Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors. After a Texas Tech foul less than two minutes into overtime, sophomore Morgan Marlborough took a 40-yard free kick from the right side of the field that hit the left post. Romero was positioned inside the six-yard box for the rebound attempt and headed in the game-winning goal past Texas Tech goalkeeper Colleen Pitts. It marked the first-career goal for Romero, a freshman from Surprise, Ariz., who has started all 18 matches for the Huskers this season. She was an offensive contributor in the 4-1 win over Iowa State on Oct. 8 by assisting Morgan Marlborough on the first goal of the match in the 28th minute.

Freshmen Playing Big Roles in 2010 Four Husker freshmen have earned time in the starting lineup this season, led by forward Ari Romero and defender Maritza Hayes who have each started all 18 matches. Hayes, along with senior Brittany Goosen and junior Katie Goetzmann, have helped lead the Huskers to five shutouts. Goalkeeper Emma Stevens has earned a starting role in eight matches, while Bartels has worked her way into the lineup for seven games and scored three goals. Nearly the entire true freshmen class has seen playing time this fall, including midfielder Ashley Hick, forward Maddie Hanssler, midfielder Kylie Kusleika and forward Megan Merrill. Goalkeepers Mallorie Monhollon and Amy Swearer have not yet appeared in a game, as they have both battled injuries while serving as back-ups to redshirt freshman Emma Stevens and senior Tara Macdonald.

Cardona, White Return to Starting Lineup Forward Alexa Cardona has earned four starts this season, marking a return to the lineup for the first time since Nov. 2, 2007 when she scored a goal and had an assist in a 2-2- tie against Iowa State. Since then, the Lincoln, Neb., native was forced to sit out the 2008 season due to a foot injury and then missed the last six games of 2009 with a dislocated knee cap. Before her injury-shortened junior season, Cardona tallied two assists in 11 games. This year, she has one goal from the Oct. 10 win over Missouri as she scored in the 48th minute to spark the comeback in the 4-2 victory. With action in 48 career matches, she is one of the more experienced players on the NU roster. Another veteran Husker who saw a recent return to the starting lineup is utility player Jaclyn White. The senior from Long Beach, Calif., has started three matches, her first starts since 2007. White has made the most of her opportunity as she scored her fourth career goal against No. 5 Oklahoma State on Oct. 16. Her role was taken to a further extent against No. 6 Texas A&M when she served as the NU goalkeeper for the final 49 minutes of the match. Despite having no previous goalkeeping experience, White gave up only one goal and tallied three saves against the Aggies in the 2-1 loss.

Huskers Hold One of Nation’s Biggest Home Field Advantages Nebraska has shown the Big Red has one of the best home field advantages in the country by losing only one home match in its past 22. The lone loss came against No. 6 Texas A&M on Sept. 26, breaking a streak of 18-straight unbeaten home games that was the fifth-longest in the NCAA. During that span, NU compiled a 9-0-2 record in 2009 that was the best home record since the 2001 Huskers went 12-0-0 at the Abbott Sports Complex. Since moving on campus in 2005, Nebraska has won 75 percent (47-12-10) of its home matches. Last season’s home success included a 2-1 upset of No. 14 Texas A&M, while the Huskers scored at least two goals in 9-of-11 home matches and a combined 29 goals in the first four games. Nebraska is 9-1 at home this season.

In his 17th year at the helm for the Huskers, Walker has produced the 14th-best career winning percentage among active Division I women's soccer coaches at .708 (236-91-21) at the start of the 2010 season. He also ranks 14th for all-time coaches and 20th among active Division I women's soccer coaches in victories with 236. Under Walker, The Huskers have become perennial Big 12 Conference and national title contenders. NU has posted at least 10 victories every season in the history of the program. The Huskers have made NCAA Sweet 16 appearances in eight of the last 13 years, including two trips to the Elite Eight. They have won three Big 12 regular-season crowns and five Big 12 Tournament titles. NU swept both conference titles in 1996, 1999 and 2000.

Review: Huskers Earn 2-1 Senior Day Win Over Kansas Junior Jordan Jackson and senior Colleen Goetzmann scored in each half as Nebraska (12-5-1, 5-3-1) survived a late scare in a 2-1 win over Kansas (5-12-0, 1-8-0) at the Nebraska Soccer Field last Friday. With the win, Nebraska has its most wins in a season since the 2005 team finished 14-8-1 and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. The Huskers were in control from the kickoff, outshooting the Jayhawks 17-7 with a 7-3 shots on goal advantage. Nebraska took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute when sophomore Morgan Marlborough sent a corner kick through the KU defense to the far post. Jackson received the ball and calmly knocked in her 10th goal of the season from four yards out. 7-0 when leading at the half this season, NU took little time gaining a 2-0 lead when Jackson took a pass from Marlborough across midfield and worked her way into the goalie box to create a shot. Her low attempt to the far post slowly rolled under the left arm of KU goalkeeper Kat Liebetrau before Goetzmann cleaned up the shot for her fourth goal of the season. Holding the 2-0 lead with less than 10 minutes remaining, the Jayhawks created a rally after NU goalkeeper Tara Macdonald was whistled for a foul in the penalty box while attempting a save. Kansas’ Whitney Berry converted the ensuing corner kick to make the score 2-1 before the Husker defense held on to preserve the victory. Jackson’s three-point match increases her season point total to 29 (10 goals, nine assists), while Marlborough’s two-assist game gives her a Big 12-leading 43 points (16 goals, 11 assists). Marlborough has 92 career points and is one point shy of tying former Husker Kelly Rheem for eighth on the all-time list. Macdonald tallied a pair of saves and is 7-3-1 this season. The Austin, Texas native was one of seven Huskers to be honored on 2010 Senior Day following the game, joining Alexa Cardona (Lincoln, Neb.), Colleen Goetzmann (Omaha, Neb.), Katie Goetzmann (Omaha, Neb.), Brittany Goosen (Olathe, Kan.), Anna White (Warrensburg, Mo.) and Jaclyn White (Long Beach, Calif.). Nebraska will be graduating a senior class that has started a combined 263 matches since 2007. With the group, the Huskers are 33-19-6 over the past three years, including an impressive 26-3-3 record at the Nebraska Soccer Field. Academically, the class has earned 31 spots on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and seven Academic All-Big 12 awards. All seven will earn degrees from the University of Nebraska.

Notes: Nebraska hit the road for the 2010 season opener and fell to the New Mexico Lobos, 3-0. The Huskers and Lobos totaled 14 shots apiece, but New Mexico converted three of its seven shots on goal, including two in the second half, to drop NU to 9-6-2 all-time in season openers. Nebraska had a solid defensive effort through much of the first half until New Mexico forward Stephanie Rowe came up with the game-winning goal in the 38th minute. Rowe received a pass from forward Jordan Craig near the top of the goalie box to give the Lobos a 1-0 halftime lead. The Husker offense tallied eight shots on goal against a tough New Mexico defense that ranked 12th nationally with 13 shutouts last season. NU still managed to put together several offensive opportunities, but UNM goalkeeper Kelli Cornell stopped each Husker shot and finished the match with seven saves. Junior Molly Thomas nearly gave Nebraska a lead in the 26th minute when her shot from the top of the penalty box clanged off the crossbar. Thomas tallied three shots on the day, while sophomore forward Morgan Marlborough led NU with four shots, including three on goal. In addition to Marlborough, four other Huskers had at least one shot on goal, including freshman Ari Romero, junior Katie Goetzmann, freshman Stacy Bartels and sophomore Jordan Jackson. New Mexico stretched its halftime lead in the second frame with goals from midfielder Rachel Fields (63:30) and forward Jennifer Williams (84:46). Nebraska’s season-opening lineup featured four freshmen who earned their first career starts, including Romero and defender Maritza Hayes, both true freshmen. Bartels and goalkeeper Emma Stevens were also in the lineup after redshirting the 2009 season.

Notes: Junior Molly Thomas scored two goals in a four-minute span to begin the second half and carry the Huskers to a 2-0 win over Loyola Chicago at the Nebraska Soccer Field. The home-opening win improved Nebraska to 1-1-0 on the season. The Huskers used a determined team effort to pick up their first win of the season, as NU played with only 10 players for the last 68 minutes of the match. In the 21st minute, Nebraska goalkeeper Emma Stevens received a red card for using her hands outside of the penalty box. Senior Tara Macdonald played the rest of the game in net and helped hold the Ramblers scoreless while tallying three saves. Nebraska outshot Loyola Chicago, 20-7, including a slim 5-to-3 advantage in shots on goal. Thomas made the most of her opportunities, earning her first goal in the 52nd minute after sophomore Jordan Jackson advanced a pass through the Loyola Chicago defense to a sprinting Thomas. The junior dribbled into the penalty area and fired a low shot past Rambler goalkeeper Katie Groesch on the right side of the net. Just four minutes later, Thomas scored her second goal of the game when she found herself alone in the short corner and lofted a perfect left-footed shot over Groesch into the far upper corner of the net. Friday marked the fourth multiple-goal game of Thomas’ career, as the 2009 Second-Team All-Big 12 selection had three last year en route to an eight-goal season. Nebraska used solid defense to hold Loyola Chicago to only seven shots behind a backline that featured freshman Maritza Hayes, junior Katie Goetzmann and senior Brittany Goosen. Hayes was one of three freshmen to start the contest along with Stevens and forward Ari Romero. After two injury-riddled seasons, junior forward Alexa Cardona was also in the lineup for the first time since 2007.

Notes: Strong defense for the second straight match and timely goals from All-Big 12 selections Morgan Marlborough and Molly Thomas gave Nebraska a 2-0 win over Loyola Maryland at the Nebraska Soccer Field. The Huskers improved to 2-1-0 on the season and kept their unbeaten home streak alive that dates back to October of 2008 (12-0-2). Marlborough accounted for the game-winning goal in the 24th minute on a free kick from 25 yards out. The sophomore found a gap on the left side of the Greyhound wall that snuck inside the post and out of the reach of LMU goalkeeper Danielle Ippolito. It was the first goal of the season for Marlborough, who was named the 2009 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year with 49 goals (21 goals, 7 assists). The Husker defense was stellar throughout the day in compiling its second shutout in a row. Loyola Maryland was held to zero shots in the first half and tallied only six in the match to Nebraska’s 23. Senior goalkeeper Tara Macdonald (2-0-0) saved all four Greyhound shots on goal in the second half. Despite dominating every offensive category, Nebraska was clinging to a one-goal lead as the match went into the final 20 minutes. At that time, Thomas came up with her third goal in the past two games, picking up a rebound off a Marlborough shot in the penalty box. Marlborough nearly converted her second goal of the match on a head-to-head opportunity with the goalkeeper that she fired off Ippolito’s hands. Thomas was there to pick up the rebound and calmly knocked in the insurance goal to give Nebraska a 2-0 lead. Marlborough and Thomas combined for 10 of NU’s 23 shots, while sophomore Jordan Jackson had five. The Huskers had 11 shots on goal, including five from Marlborough.

Notes: Sophomore Morgan Marlborough scored in each half after junior Molly Thomas put the Huskers on top early to propel Nebraska to a 3-1 road victory at Indiana. Nebraska earned its first road win of the year despite being outshot by the Hoosiers, 19-10. The Huskers made better use of their opportunities, beginning in the fifth minute when Thomas scored to give NU a 1-0 lead. The Omaha, Neb., native received a pass from Marlborough on the left side of penalty box and took a left-footed shot from 12 yards out that was tipped by IU goalkeeper Shannon Flower and then bounced off the right post into the net. The Huskers only took five shots on goal as a team, while Indiana had 11. Marlborough had a five-point day that was highlighted by a pair of crucial goals in the 27th and 45th minutes. At 27:27, sophomore Jordan Jackson dribbled through several Hoosier defenders in the upper third and advanced a pass to Marlborough on the right side of the box, who then shot over Flower from eight yards out for a 2-0 NU advantage. The two-goal first-half cushion was nearly cut in half with 23 seconds remaining, but senior defender Brittany Goosen came up with a critical save one-yard in front of the goal line to stop Carly Samp’s would-be goal. Although the Hoosiers nearly made it a 2-1 match, Nebraska wasted no time out of the halftime break as Marlborough gave the Huskers a commanding 3-0 lead at 45:22 on a penalty kick after Indiana’s Lara Ross received a yellow card in the box. Indiana cut into Nebraska’s lead with its lone goal of the match at 58:44 when Samp intercepted a Husker pass back to the goalkeeper and beat senior Tara Macdonald head-to-head. The miscue was the only blemish in another strong defensive effort, as Macdonald improved to 3-0 on the season in a season-high eight-save performance. Macdonald’s 16 saves on the season season gave her 61 in her career, tied for the ninth-most in NU history.

Notes: Sophomore Jordan Jackson scored two first-half goals to lead Nebraska to its fourth straight win in a 4-0 shutout over IUPUI. The Huskers played in front of a Labor Day crowd of 739 fans, the largest attendance at the Nebraska Soccer Field since October 3, 2008. Since that month, Nebraska has been one of the best home teams in the country, compiling a 13-0-2 record since its last loss in Lincoln on Oct. 17, 2008. Jackson’s two goals marked the second multiple-scoring game of her career and her first goals of the 2010 season. She put the Huskers on top in the 16th minute via a free kick from 35 yards out that was perfectly placed into the upper left corner of the net over IUPUI goalkeeper Kristin Hasely. Just four minutes later, junior Molly Thomas sent a pass to the front of the net from the left side of the box, where Jackson was moving toward Thomas and flicked the ball with her right foot into the right side of the net. A native of Overland Park, Kan., Jackson’s five-point day (2 goals, 1 assist) was a career-best performance. Her second goal, assisted by Thomas and junior Katie Goetzmann, gave Thomas at least one point for the fourth-straight match. Leading 2-0 at the intermission, Nebraska continued its offensive pressure immediately in the second half with two goals in the first nine minutes. Sophomore Morgan Marlborough scored her fourth goal of the season in the 46th minute when she dribbled through the Jaguar defense on the left side of the penalty box and sent a low shot inside the right post to give NU a 3-0 lead. In the 54th minute, senior Colleen Goetzmann scored her first goal of the season on a header near the left post. Goetzmann’s goal resulted from a corner kick by Jackson after she sent the ball to senior Jaclyn White, who then entered a pass into the goalie box. Goetzmann’s goal marked the first of the season not scored by the dangerous trio of Marlborough (4), Thomas (4) and Jackson (2). The Huskers outshot IUPUI, 23-6, including a 10-to-4 shots on goal advantage. NU did not allow the Jaguars any corner kicks, while the Huskers took six.

Notes: A pair of first-half goals propelled Nebraska to its fifth straight victory and best start since 2001 as the Huskers rolled to a 3-0 shutout over Arizona at the Sun Devil Classic in Tempe, Ariz. The shutout also marked the fourth time the Huskers held their opponent scoreless. An explosive Nebraska offense jumped on an Arizona defense that had given up 2.75 goals per game to take a 2-0 halftime lead on goals from sophomore Jordan Jackson and senior Jaclyn White. Jackson put the Huskers up 1-0 in the 11th minute on a cross to the far post from sophomore Morgan Marlborough. Jackson was coming off a two-goal match in NU’s 4-0 win over IUPUI and picked up where she left off by scoring her third goal of the season against the Wildcats. A pair of seniors teamed up for Nebraska’s second goal of the match in the 22nd minute when Jaclyn White scored for the third time in her career. White received a long ball from classmate Anna White and beat Arizona goalkeeper Ashley Jeff to tap in her third career goal, while Anna White picked up her second career assist. In only her 25th collegiate game, sophomore Morgan Marlborough scored her 26th career goal to enter Nebraska’s all-time top 10 in a tie with Jenny Benson (1996-2000) for the 10th spot. The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native scored in the 72nd minute on a cross from freshman Stacy Bartels to give NU a 3-0 lead and solidify the fifth win of the season. Senior goalkeeper Tara Macdonald remained impressive between the posts as she improved to 5-0 on the season. With the victory, the Austin, Texas native moved into a tie for eighth Nebraska’s all-time win chart alongside Michelle Denomme (1995-96) and Brittany Pfeil (2006-08) with 10 career wins. Macdonald had two saves against the Wildcats. The Huskers outshot Arizona, 20-10 overall, including a dominating 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Notes: Nebraska’s bid for a sixth straight victory was halted by No. 25 Arizona State as the Huskers fell to the Sun Devils, 5-0, in Tempe, Ariz. Nebraska ended the Sun Devil Desert Classic with a 1-1-0 record after defeating Arizona two days before, 3-0. Arizona State forward Karin Volpe turned in a hat trick and began the Sun Devil scoring early by giving her team the eventual game-winning goal in the ninth minute. Two more first-half goals from Alexandra Elston and Miah Mollay gave ASU a three-goal halftime lead. Volpe then added two more in a four-minute span in the second half (64:40, 68:32) and the Huskers were unable to cut into the increasing ASU lead. Senior goalkeeper Tara Macdonald played the first 45 minutes and suffered her first loss of the season, dropping her to 5-1-0 on the year. Macdonald and the NU defense had held four of its previous five opponents scoreless before meeting the Sun Devils. Freshman Emma Stevens was in the net for the second half. Offensively, junior Molly Thomas led Nebraska with five of its 14 shots. The Huskers put four of those on goal but were shut out for only the second time this season. Sophomore Jordan Jackson was named to the Sun Devil Desert Classic All-Tournament Team. The Overland Park, Kan., native scored Nebraska’s game-winning goal in the victory over Arizona.

Notes: Redshirt freshman Stacy Bartels scored her first and second career goals off assists from sophomore Jordan Jackson to lead Nebraska to a 3-1 win over Cal State Fullerton (2-5-0) at the Nebraska Soccer Field. Each of Bartels’ goals came in the second half and broke a 1-1 intermission tie to carry the Huskers to their sixth win in the past seven matches. A first-team all-state selection at Omaha Skutt High School, Bartels found a familiar scoring role against the Titans to net her first collegiate points. The redshirt freshman scored the game-winner in the 53rd minute off a corner kick from Jackson that ended up at Bartels’ feet 10 yards in front of the net. The Omaha native then fired a left-footed shot through traffic that was out of the reach of Cal State Fullerton goalkeeper Jessica Change near the right post. Clinging to a 2-1 lead, Bartels separated NU from the Titans 17 minutes later when Jackson advanced the ball to a sprinting Bartels in the upper third. Bartels outran the Titan defense and was head-to-head with Change as she fired a low shot at the far post for her second goal of the match. While Bartels accounted for the final two goals, sophomore sensation Morgan Marlborough gave Nebraska a quick 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute. Marlborough took advantage of a free kick into the box from junior Katie Goetzmann and battled the Titan defense to free herself for a left-footed shot to the left post from 15 yards out. The goal was Marlborough’s 27th of her career, tying her with Kori Saunders (1999-2002) for the No. 9 spot on the all-time goal chart. Cal State Fullerton evened the game at one apiece in the 27th minute on an own goal resulting from a corner kick. It marked the first goal Nebraska had given up on its home field in 2010. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Emma Stevens picked up her first career win by turning in a solid performance in the net. The Corona, Calif., native only gave up the own goal while tallying one save.

Notes: Sophomore Jordan Jackson scored two goals to guide Nebraska to its seventh win in the past eight matches and finish the non-conference slate on a strong note with a 3-1 victory over Iowa. The Huskers’ 7-2-0 record marked the best nine-game start by NU in nearly a decade, as the 2001 squad began the year 8-1-0. The non-conference finale victory also stopped the Hawkeyes’ seven-game winning streak. Jackson scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season, accounting for the game-winner in the 65th minute off a corner kick from Blair Slapper. The junior sent a perfect ball over the Hawkeye defense to the far post and Jackson elevated to head in her second goal of the match. The aggressive header bounced in front of the goal line and was just out of the reach of Iowa goalkeeper Emily Moran as it went upward to catch the bottom of the cross bar. After Jackson gave Nebraska a 2-1 lead with 25 minutes remaining, Iowa’s Alex Melin nearly answered less than a minute later, but her line drive shot from 15 yards out was knocked over the cross bar by NU goalkeeper Emma Stevens to preserve the Husker lead. Stevens moved her record to 2-1-0. Nebraska took a 1-0 lead just before halftime (44:07) on Jackson’s first goal of the day. With each team struggling to find an offensive rhythm on wet field conditions, Nebraska capitalized on its limited opportunities as senior Jaclyn White sent a pass to junior Katie Goetzmann on the left side of the goalie box, who then found Jackson five yards in front of the goal for a clean shot. Leading 2-1 in the game’s final minutes, junior Alexa Cardona created Nebraska’s third goal as she was fouled in the box while attempting to dribble through the Iowa defense. Sophomore Morgan Marlborough converted the penalty kick to solidify the Husker win and nail down her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Marlborough is a perfect 3-of-3 on penalty kick opportunities during her two-year career, while she also took sole possession of ninth place on Nebraska’s all-time scoring chart with 28 career goals. The Huskers scored three goals against a tough Iowa defense that had shut out six opponents coming into the match. The Huskers also remained unbeaten at the Nebraska Soccer Field since October of 2008, recording a 15-0-2 mark during that stretch.

Notes: Sophomore Morgan Marlborough scored two goals in a 2 1/2 minute span in the second half as Nebraska knocked off Texas, 2-1, at the Nebraska Soccer Field to claim its eighth win in the past nine matches. With the victory over the Longhorns, the Huskers moved to 14-1-0 all-time in Big 12 Conference openers. Nebraska’s win also kept alive the nation’s fifth-longest home unbeaten streak, as the Big Red had not lost in Lincoln since October of 2008 while recording a 16-0-2 mark during that stretch. The previous six meetings between the Huskers and Longhorns had been decided by one goal and the 2010 matchup was no different as both teams fought to a scoreless halftime tie with only seven total shots (Nebraska 4, Texas 3). The offense turned up on both ends in the second half and senior Anna White sparked Nebraska’s first goal when she was fouled in the 58th minute as she worked her way toward the corner. Marlborough took the ensuing free kick from a wide angle 25 yards away and shot over the Texas wall to sneak the ball inside the far post for the first goal of the match. Although Nebraska was clicking on offense to create several goal opportunities, the Longhorns answered quickly when freshman Leah Fortune unleashed a 20-yard shot from just outside the top of the penalty box into the upper right corner of the net. Entering the contest, Texas had not given up more than one goal in any game this season behind sophomore goalkeeper Alexa Gaul, who finished the game with seven saves. Nebraska would break that streak less than a minute after UT’s game-tying goal as Marlborough was taken down inside the box and nailed the eventual game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 61st minute. It was Marlborough’s Big 12-leading ninth goal of the season and 30th of her career to move into a seventh-place tie with former Husker Nikki Baker (2002-04) on the school’s all-time chart. With Nebraska taking its second lead of the game, Texas nearly answered again with 10 minutes remaining when Husker goalkeeper Emma Stevens made her save of the game, knocking a 15-yard Kylie Doniak shot over the cross bar to maintain the NU lead. Stevens, a freshman from Corona, Calif., won her third game in a row to move to 3-1-0 this season. She tallied five saves against Texas.

Notes: Sophomore Morgan Marlborough’s Big 12-leading 10th goal of the season gave Nebraska an opportunity to knock off No. 6 Texas A&M, but Aggie midfielder Bri Young broke a 1-1 tie in the 71st minute to give the Aggies a 2-1 win over the Huskers at the Nebraska Soccer Field. The match ended Nebraska’s home unbeaten streak that had lasted 18 matches (16-0-2) dating back to Oct. 17, 2008. The Huskers fell behind early in the 11th minute when Alyssa Mautz scored from 30 yards out to put the Aggies ahead 1-0 and give NU its first home deficit of the season. Marlborough was quick to answer less than three minutes later when she was fouled just beyond the penalty box. The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native then sent a 20-yard free kick over the Texas A&M wall and just inside the right post to tie the contest at 1-1. Marlborough is the Big 12’s current scoring leader with 23 points on 10 goals and three assists while she also claimed sole possession of the seventh-spot on Nebraska’s all-time goal chart with 31 career goals. The Husker defense was outstanding throughout the match as Nebraska played the final 49 minutes with only 10 players. In the 41st minute, NU starting goalkeeper Emma Stevens collided with Mautz outside the penalty box and was whistled for a red card. With senior Tara Macdonald sidelined due to a back injury, the Huskers entered senior Jaclyn White in between the posts. Primarily a forward this season, White had not played goalkeeper during her prep or collegiate career. The Long Beach, Calf., native turned in a solid performance by tallying three saves and giving up only one goal on Young’s 45-yard free kick. White nearly saved the eventual game-winning goal as she deflected the shot into the bottom of the cross bar before the ball bounced off the back of her head and into the net. Despite playing shorthanded, Texas A&M only outshot Nebraska 16-13 overall with a slim 8-7 shots on goal advantage. The Huskers managed to create seven shots with only 10 players. The Aggies entered the match averaging nearly three goals per game. Just before Young’s game-winning goal, Amber Gnatzig had a 1 on 1 opportunity with White that ended when defender Brittany Goosen chased down Gnatzig to break up her shot on goal. The Aggies looked to separate themselves down the stretch but White made a diving save with four minutes remaining on a Mautz shot to keep the Huskers in the match all 90 minutes.

Notes: Nebraska attempted 23 shots but could only put one in the back of the net as the Huskers dropped a 2-1 contest at Baylor. Sophomore Morgan Marlborough scored her Big 12-leading 11th goal of the season to continue a streak of five straight games with at least one goal. Baylor midfielder Christine Clark notched the game-winning goal with 22 minutes remaining, just nine minutes after Marlborough had tied the contest at one apiece. Clark picked up a loose ball in the goalie box and scored from four yards out following a 13-minute shot drought. During that span, Marlborough brought NU back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to tie the game in the 59th minute on her 32nd career goal. Nebraska was the more aggressive offensive team throughout and pressured quickly in the second half to shoot five times and gain three corner kicks in the opening 15 minutes. The first attempt of the half came off the foot of junior Molly Thomas and hit the cross bar, while she then contributed to the tying goal when her shot was saved before Marlborough swept up the rebound opportunity in front of the net. Baylor would respond with Clark’s game-winning goal in the 68th minute, although junior Katie Goetzmann then hit the cross bar and NU attempted six shots as it unsuccessfully tried to even the score a second time. The Huskers tied their season-high with 23 shots, but came up against a Baylor defense that has given up only nine goals all season, the third-best total in the Big 12. Nebraska outshot Baylor by six (23-17) and was leading the first-half shot battle (10-7) heading into the final moments of the half when the Bears created three attempts in the last two minutes. The final attempt was costly for the Big Red, as midfielder Alex Klein beat the NU defense and senior goalkeeper Tara Macdonald at the near post to give BU a crucial goal with 11 seconds remaining. Prior to the goal, Nebraska had held Baylor to its first of two significant shot droughts, this one lasting more than 16 minutes. Shots on goal were even between the two teams, 8-8. Macdonald has been battling a back injury and returned to the field for the first time since Sept. 12. She saved six shots but saw her record dip to 5-2-0.

Notes: Freshman Ari Romero saved her first career goal for an opportune time as her rebound header in the 92nd minute gave Nebraska a 5-4 overtime victory at Texas Tech. Sophomore Jordan Jackson provided NU with a strong attack in the offensive showdown by scoring two second-half goals and adding a first-half assist to complete a five-point day. Jackson’s second goal of the match resulted from a breakaway in the 86th minute and put the Huskers on top 4-2 with just under five minutes remaining. Nebraska’s first Big 12 road win would not come easy, however, as Texas Tech’s Jessica Fuston tallied a penalty kick goal two minutes later (87:36) before Mallory Yacullo scored the improbable game-tying goal with one second left on the clock (89:89) to force overtime. Despite relinquishing a pair of two-goal leads and playing in its first extra-period game of the season, Nebraska maintained composure following the Red Raider comeback. It marked the first-career goal for Romero, a freshman from Surprise, Ariz., who has started all 13 matches for the Huskers this season. Leading 2-1 at the half, Marlborough, Jackson and junior Molly Thomas teamed up to give Nebraska a 3-1 lead in the 51st minute. Jackson’s sixth goal of the year occurred after Marlborough’s corner kick to Thomas was crossed to Jackson at the near post. Texas Tech’s Leanne Mihelich responded in the 56th minute to close the margin to 3-2 before Jackson’s seventh goal of the season at 85:20 gave NU its late 4-2 advantage. Jackson accounted for five points on the day and has reached the 20-point plateau this season via seven goals and a Big 12-leading six assists. Senior Colleen Goetzmann was the beneficiary of a previous corner kick opportunity involving Jackson and Marlborough in the 26th minute, as she picked up a rebound from Marlborough to score her second goal of the season and put NU on top 2-0 early in the match. Marlborough scored the game’s first goal in the 15th minute when she beat a defender 1v1 and shot into the upper corner of net for her Big 12-leading 12th goal of the season. With four points (two goals, two assists) against the Red Raiders, Marlborough has 78 in her career to claim sole possession of ninth on the Nebraska all-time list. The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native has exploded in the past three weeks to score at least one goal in six straight games.

Notes: Behind a superb offensive effort Nebraska picked up its 10th win of the season for the 16th time in program history as the Huskers downed the Iowa State Cyclones 4-1 at the Nebraska Soccer Field. Sophomore Morgan Marlborough scored in each half and added an assist to increase her Big 12-leading totals to 14 goals and 34 points, while also tying Christine Latham’s 11-year old school record of seven consecutive games with at least one goal. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Emma Stevens turned in a strong performance in the net by recording a career-high seven saves against eight shots on goal from the Cyclones. The Huskers produced a season-high 25 shots, including 16 in the second half, after both teams had slow offensive starts. Marlborough, who entered the game ranked No. 2 nationally in points, began the scoring in the 28th minute shortly following a NU corner kick. Marlborough received a pass from freshman defender Ari Romero on the right side of the penalty box and dribbled into the short corner before drilling a six-yard shot over the hands of ISU goalkeeper Maddie Jobe. Just four minutes later, Nebraska cashed in on a corner kick as Marlborough sent the ball beyond the far post to redshirt freshman Stacy Bartels. The Omaha native leaped just high enough to send a header back at the frame off Jobe’s hands near the cross bar for her third goal of the season. Looking to extend its lead before the intermission, Iowa State cut the deficit in half in the 39th minute on a left-footed shot from 15 yards out by Emily Goldstein. Nebraska went to the locker room with a slim 9-to-6 shots advantage. The Huskers pressured immediately in the second half with six shots in the first 15 minutes. Still holding a 2-1 lead, Marlborough gave the Huskers separation in the 74th minute after junior defender Katie Goetzmann advanced the ball to sophomore midfielder Jordan Jackson on the left sideline. Jackson dribbled into the penalty box and centered a pass to Marlborough, who then beat an ISU defender 1v1 and fired into the right side of the net for her 14th goal of the season. The two-goal match gives Marlborough 10 career multiple-goal games, tying her for No. 4 on the school’s all-time list. The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native is also in the all-time top 10 in career goals (35, No. 7) and points (83, No. 9). In the 78th minute, NU solidified the victory when Goetzmann sent a pass across midfield to Jackson, who handled the rest on her own to fight her way into penalty box and score from 10 yards out. The assist gave Goetzmann a career-tying two assist match, while Jackson tallied her eighth goal of the year.

Notes: After falling behind 2-0 in the opening minutes Nebraska scored four second-half goals to defeat defending Big 12 champion Missouri at the Nebraska Soccer Field, 4-2. The Huskers matched last year’s win total in the process and maintained its second-place position in the Big 12 standings with two weeks remaining. The comeback marks the biggest come-from-behind win since Aug. 29, 2004 when the Huskers overcame the same deficit to down Creighton, 4-2, at the Abbott Sports Complex. On Sunday afternoon, Nebraska gave up a pair of Missouri goals in the first 11 minutes to find itself in a 2-0 hole. The Huskers created several offensive opportunities in the first half and led the shot battle (11-4) but could not get past Missouri goalkeeper Jessica Gwin, who saved three shots on goal from sophomores Jordan Jackson and Morgan Marlborough to main a 2-0 Tiger lead at the intermission. Nebraska came out on fire in the second half and scored its first goal at 47:02 when Marlborough broke free down the right sideline. The forward centered a pass to junior Alexa Cardona, who flipped the ball behind her with her right foot past Gwin to account for her first goal of the season. Ten minutes later, Nebraska came up with another prime opportunity as Marlborough took a pass from Jackson on the left side and dribbled to the near post. She then delivered a perfectly-timed pass to senior midfielder Colleen Goetzmann in front of the net for a one-touch shot to tie the game at 2-2. Goetzmann has scored in two of the past three games, while Marlborough completed her second multiple-assist game of the season. Riding the momentum of the game-tying goal, NU continued its offensive pressure to come up with the game-winner in the 62nd minute on Jackson’s ninth goal of the year. Jackson received a long, crossing pass from junior defender Katie Goetzmann on the right side of the penalty box and sent a one-touch, sliding shot to the left post to complete the comeback. Jackson entered the match ranked second in the Big 12 in points and increased that total to 26 with a three-point day on one goal and one assist. Marlborough, the only player ahead of Jackson in the league point standings, had another remarkable game of her own as she scored for a school-record eighth straight match with an unassisted goal in the 76th minute to put NU ahead 4-2. The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native used a slide tackle to obtain possession on the right sideline and then immediately dribbled into the penalty box and sent a low shot to the left post for her 15th goal of the season. The Big 12 leader in goals (15) and points (38), Marlborough has had three straight games with at least four points.

Notes: Senior goalkeeper Tara Macdonald broke the single-game school record with 13 saves in a complete-game shutout as Nebraska tied Oklahoma, 0-0, in Norman. The Huskers are now 11-4-1 overall with a 4-2-1 record in Big 12 play, while the Sooners are 8-5-2 with a 3-2-1 league mark. Macdonald turned in her sixth career shutout to preserve the draw as Nebraska was held scoreless for the first time in conference play. The Austin, Texas native was very effective down the stretch with seven saves in the final 30 minutes of the game, including four critical stops in the overtime periods. Her record-breaking 13-save performance broke the previous NU single-game best of 12 set by Karina LeBlanc (1998) and Erin Miller (2002). Offensively, Oklahoma held a narrow 23-19 shots advantage after both teams struggled to create an offensive flow with only 10 total shots (OU 7, NU 3) at the halftime break. Nebraska attempted six shots on goal, including three from sophomore Morgan Marlborough, who saw her school record of eight consecutive games with a goal come to an end. Marlborough and the Huskers took 13 shots in the second half, but were unable to put any past OU goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire. Out of the intermission, Marlborough hit the left post from 10 yards out, while sophomore Jordan Jackson nearly gave the Huskers an overtime win but she was tripped up on her breakaway opportunity as time expired in the first overtime period. Macdonald, a 2008 transfer from the University of Oklahoma, moved into sixth place on the NU all-time save chart with her school record 13-stop effort. It marked Macdonald’s first career shutout in a double-overtime contest, as she also played a full 110 minutes three times last season in ties against Arizona State Villanova (2-2), Arizona State (1-1) and Texas Tech (3-3). She is now 6-2-1 on the season.

Notes: Nebraska answered the first two goals from No. 5 Oklahoma State and had the game tied 2-2 with 25 minutes remaining before the Cowgirls scored twice to spoil the Huskers’ upset bid in a 4-2 match in Stillwater, Okla. The Huskers slipped to 11-5-1 (4-3-1 Big 12) overall, while Oklahoma State improved to 14-1-1 (7-0-0 Big 12) and remained undefeated in conference play. Sophomore Morgan Marlborough and senior Jaclyn White scored the NU goals in the 15th and 63rd minutes. Marlborough has a Big 12-leading 16 goals and finished with three points as she assisted on White’s goal to tie the game in the second half. Nebraska fell behind early when Whitney Wernimont gave OSU a 1-0 lead less than seven minutes into the game (6:41). Marlborough responded at 14:55 on a cross from senior Colleen Goetzmann from seven yards out. The Lee’s Summit, Mo., native made the most of few offensive opportunities as she was held to three shots by a tough Cowgirl defense that had given up only nine goals all season. Nebraska became only the third team this year to score two goals against Oklahoma State. Following Marlborough’s goal, OSU’s Katie Richardson picked up a rebound on a Krista Lopez shot in the box and scored from five yards away to give the Cowgirls a 2-1 halftime lead. In the 63rd minute, Nebraska put the pressure on the nation’s fifth-ranked team with White’s goal from six yards away, her second of the season. With under 25 minutes remaining, Oklahoma State produced back-to-back goals from Taylor Mathews and Megan Marchesano in a 13-minute span (66:20, 78:36) to hold off the Huskers. Oklahoma State outshot the Huskers 22-12, including a 10-5 shots on goal advantage. Senior Tara Macdonald suffered her third loss of the season (6-3-1) but came away with six stops to surpass the 100-save mark. Notes: Junior Jordan Jackson and senior Colleen Goetzmann scored in each half as Nebraska (12-5-1, 5-3-1) survived a late scare in a 2-1 win over Kansas (5-12-0, 1-8-0) at the Nebraska Soccer Field.
