*Welcome to the National Center for Construction Education and Research or NCCER. *The National Center for Construction Education and Research or NCCER, was established by the construction industry to provide standardized education materials and to address the severe workforce shortage facing the industry.

It is through our standardized training process of accreditation, standardized curriculum, national registry, instructor certification and image resources that NCCCER plays a key part of the industry's workforce develoment efforts. *NCCER maintains and develops curriculum for six key industry market areas--Commercial, Industrial, Residential, Maintenance, Highway/Heavy, and Pipeline*Perception vs Reality. Craft professionals can earn a good wage. The ability to gain wealth in the construction industry has never been greater than it is today.*The construction industry will always need a skilled construction workforce. *A study from the Brookings Institution *The construction industry will need more than one-million skilled workers by 2012 and will rank amongh the economy's top 10 largest sources of employment growth.*The construction trades rank among the top ten wage and salary construction occupations.*It is critical that we start training the workforce today for tomorrow. According to a study conducted by management consultant group FMI, our projected supply will not meet our demand for a skilled workforce. *Our need to train our workforce is more important than ever before. The industry will need 180,000 skilled workers just to meet job growth and an additional 95,000 skilled workers to replace retirees.*Out of the total construction workforce, only about ten percent have had some type of formal training. The need to train the construction workforce is more critical than ever before. *NCCER was created to train and provide portable credentials to the workforce.

In 1950, 60% of the workforce was unskilled. Today the exact opposite is true. Two-thirds of all jobs now require skilled workers. Only 20% require a college education. The amount of jobs requiring a college education hasn't changed in 55 years.

*The NCCER is a non-profit educational foundation created by the industry to address the workforce shortage and to develop a standardized curriculum with portable credentials.*In 1995, NCCER was founded by the worlds' largest and most progressive contactors and national trade associations to address the workforce shortage need. What started with the development of five initial craft areas has evolved into more than 35 craft areas.*These partner associatons have come together to support the goals and the mission of NCCER.*NCCER was created by the industry to focus on five main areas: to provide standardized curriculum with portable credentials; maintain a safe, productive workforce; provide a comprehensive career path from the craft professional to project manager; to provide career image resources and to provide research on the industry's training needs. *NCCER's standardized training process includes standardized curriculum, accreditation, instructor certification, and a national registry. These components are now recognized staples of the industry's workforce development efforts.*The Contren Learning Series is the only curriculum developed by the industry...for industry. Prentice Hall, the world's largest educational publisher, is the sole publisher of the Contren Learning Series.

Contren includes construction, maintenance, and pipeline curricula for more than 40 crafts; construction safety programs and world-class management education programs.*Working in partnership with industry and academia, NCCER has developed a system for program accreditation that is similar to those found in institutions of higher learning. To date, there are more than 500 NCCER Accredited Training Sponsors located world-wide.

This accreditation process assures that students receive quality training and industry-recognized credentials through NCCER's National Registry.*As part of its accreditation process that ensures the uniform and consistent delivery of training. Through this process, NCCER certifies the Master Trainer. In turn the Master Trainer certifies teh local Craft/Technician Instructor.

Craft Instructors are individuals certified to teach NCCER's Contren Learning Series. This network of certified craft instructors ensures that NCCER training programs will meet the standards of instruction set by the industry.*Currently there are more than 500 training facilities in 50 staes and eight countries that are NCCER Acccredited Sponsors. More than 25 state DOEs recognize the Contren Learning Series.* The National Registry provides transcripts, certificates, and wallet cards to students when training is delivered by an NCCER Accredited Training Sponsor.

To date, NCCER's National Registry has delivered more than 2.8 million module completions. These valuable industry credentials benefit students as they seek employment and build their career.*The Transcript, Certificate of Completions and Wallet Card*The ANR provides Accredited Training Sponsors a secure, efficient and affordable way to report and manage training information online. *The NCACP evaluates journey-level knowledge and skills of experienced craftpeople. The core competencies are based on the Contren Learning Series. A training perscription is provided to all craftspeople assessed, and upon successful completion, credentials from the National Registry will be provided. *The National Construction Career Tests (NCCT) is a series of career tests created for secondary career and technical education. These tests include both knowledge and skills demonstrations based upon the Contren curriculum, and integrate directly into post-secondary and apprenticeship programs. *The NCCER web site provides a wealth of up-to-date industry information. Customers can access the online catalog, purchase shirts or decals from the online store, download performance verifications, search for sponsors or assessment centers by state, search for construction careers or build and post resumes on the Monster/NCCER online career center. *NCCER offers a co-brand career site that includes up-to-date career information for the construction industry. Students, teachers and parents will find useful links and programs to help guide them in their career planning. Students can also search for construction jobs across the nation and post resumes online. *National Careers in Construction Week is a nationwide campaign designed to increase public awareness of the hard work and contributions of our nation's craft professionals.

NCCER provides an array of promotional materials and suggestions to help schools, contractors and associations chapters in the local community plan a successful week.
