active traders. Traders traveled on roads that were carved out of the jungle. They used canoes to ship goods. They developed a 365 day calendar and wrote with hieroglyphs. They had numerous things that affected them but the thing that affected them most was that the demands they placed among their environment grew beyond the capacity of their land.

• Hernan Cortes conquered the Aztecs within two years. The Spanish conquered the Aztecs by having weapons that the Aztecs didn’t have, like guns and cannons. The Spanish conquistadors became very rich after conquering the Aztecs because they Aztecs had lots of gold and were very rich.

• The Navajo settled in the southwest region about 1,000 years ago. They were hunters and gathers. The Navajo built and lived in villages with each other and had square houses called hogans. They grew maize and beans. Also, the Navajo raised sheep. The main effect on canalization that they faced was they loss some of their land, got disease, and laws were enforced on them that their culture broke.

• The Iroquois were spread out up towards Canada which is now northern New York. There were five Iroquois groups. They were the Onondaga, Seneca, Mohawk, Oneida, and Cayuga. The Iroquois where not affected by the colonization of English settlers. They survived by trading fur to the settlers. They lived in very long houses some times as long as a football field. Benjamin Franklin admired the Iroquois.
