DESCRIPTION

National Youth Week (NYW) is the largest celebration of young people in Australia. Thousands of young people aged 12-25 from across Australia get involved in NYW each year. Townsville City Council, in collaboration with the many organisations and individuals listed throughout this publication, have endeavoured to provide a number of events and activities to highlight the importance of youth to our city.

activities aim to remove barriers and

provide social opportunities for all

young people, with the purpose of

building capacity and inclusion within

the Townsville community.

Youth Pathways5PM-7PM: PCYC CASTLE HILL AGES: 12-25Aboriginal people knew the land they walked across as a story. We intend to create a youth story through art and media technolo-gies. The project involves youth creating an art story about living in Garbutt. The art being both contemporary and traditional

FREE Drive-in MovieCARNIVAL 4PM, DRIVE IN 6.15PM, MOVIE 7PM: WILLOWS SHOPPING CENTRE CARPARKTownsville City Council is going retro to kick off National Youth Week with a FREE drive-in movie! There will be plenty of giveaways up for grabs, a free photobooth, and a chillout zone, where you can grab a free hot chocolate and

map out your plans for the week. Get there early for the carnival amusements, fashion stores, a photobooth and a range of freebies. This event has a 170 car capacity.

NBN Digital Lounge Open Day9AM–2PM: CITYLIBRARIES AITKENVALEExplore and experience all of the digital media equipment the library has to offer. CityLibraries have teamed up with Townsville Creative Technologies College who will be conducting demonstrations of the equipment throughout the day. The new and exciting space includes: A 27 inch iMac including Garage Band, iMovie and iPhoto,

Pro Tools, Wacom tablet, Corel Sketching program and Photoshop element, Mbox software, MIDI keyboard, Gimp and Blender soft-ware, headphones, Shure SM58 microphone and Smart TV.

ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT This film (premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in 2011) interweaves stories from teenage girls and interviews from women in leadership positions and within media, to give an inside look at the media and its message. The film’s motto, “You can’t be what you can’t see,” underscores an implicit message that young
