FLEXIBLE AND MULTI-DISCIPLINARY EDUCATIONIn an increasingly globalised world with its new economy, graduates need to stand out as culturally sensitive, well-informed and articulate individuals who can learn and think for themselves. To help you become such a graduate, NUS undergraduate programmes strike a healthy balance of depth and breadth that would satisfy both the specialisation needed for a subject major and the broader expectations of university education. In this way, you are not just adequately equipped for higher studies, you are well-poised for a fulfi lling professional life, and are equally adept in everyday living.

There are many opportunities for multi-disciplinary studies, among which are:

MINOR PROGRAMMES

A Minor Programme is a coherent course of study providing depth in a certain area outside that of the Major. It may be taken within or outside a student’s Faculty/School. The Modular Credits (MC) requirement for a Minor Programme is at least 24 MCs, of which up to 8 MCs may be used to meet the requirements for both the Minor and a Major or another Minor, subject to the agreement of the particular department/programme or Faculty/School hosting the Minor. The Minor programme will be refl ected in the student’s transcript upon successful completion.

Modules satisfying the requirements for a Minor may be read as Unrestricted Electives. Breadth modules (outside a student’s Faculty) and General Education modules that are within the list of modules approved for the Minor may be used to fulfi l both the Minor and Breadth/General Education requirements. DOUBLE MAJOR PROGRAMMES

A Double Major is a single degree programme, in which a student satisfi es the requirements of two Majors. It is conceived as an opportunity for students to broaden their knowledge and capacities by pursuing a second Major alongside their primary Major. The Second Major affords a signifi cant degree of depth, although its MC requirement is set below that of the primary Major. The Second Major is a non-Honours major. It may be taken in the same faculty that offers the primary major or from a different Faculty.

SPECIALISATIONS AND MAJOR PROGRAMMES

A Specialisation provides students with the opportunity to learn more about a particular sub-discipline within their main discipline. It is very useful for students who plan to enter specifi c career tracks upon their graduation.

A Specialisation is a coherent programme of study that will require, from AY2008/2009, 24 MCs of distinctive modules within a Major. For students admitted prior to AY2008/2009, a specialisation typically requires between 16 and 20 MCs of distinctive modules within a Major.

A major programme allows rigorous in-depth study in an area leading to your specialisation.

Please refer to http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/edu/UG/curriculum.html for more information regarding the Undergraduate Curriculum Structure.

DOUBLE DEGREE PROGRAMMES

• Business Administration & Communications and New Media

• Business Administration (Accountancy) & Communications and New Media

• Business Administration (Accountancy) and Computing (Computer Science courses)

• Business Administration and Computing (Information System courses)

• Business Administration (Accountancy) and Computing (Information System courses)

TUITION FEESUndergraduate education at NUS is highly subsidised by the Government of Singapore which pays for the bulk of the operating costs besides the infrastructural costs. The University’s fees are reviewed and adjusted periodically to refl ect the cost of providing education to students. For more information on the tuition fee payable for your course of study, please visit the Registrar’s Offi ce website: http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/edu/UG/fees.html

MOE Tuition GrantThe substantial tuition subsidy from the Government of Singapore comes in the form of a tuition grant which is administered by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and offered to all admitted students. Students who opt to apply for the tuition grant need only pay subsidised fees (also referred to as the “Direct Payment” portion of fees).

While the tuition grant is not repayable, non-Singapore citizens in receipt of it will be required to undertake a service bond by working for a Singapore-registered company for three years upon completion of their degrees so as to discharge some of their obligations to the Singapore public for the high subsidy to their university education. For more information on the MOE Tuition Grant, please visit http://tgonline.moe.gov.sg/ for the terms and conditions of the tuition grant scheme for non-Singaporeans.

FINANCIAL AID The University is committed to ensuring that no deserving student is denied admissions because of fi nancial diffi culty. We understand the challenge of fi nancing your University studies in today’s time and age. While you are ultimately responsible for your tuition fees and living expenses, we strive to help you tap on all the resources which you are eligible for.

All prospective and current NUS undergraduate students who meet the Financial Aid eligibility criteria will be offered Financial Aid. We recognise that a university education is a partnership involving the student, his/her family and the University; thus, Financial Aid is designed based on an average student’s expected cost of attendance consisting of tuition fee and living expenses.

Estimated Living ExpensesWe estimate that full-time undergraduate students studying in NUS may reasonably incur about $6,000 to $10,000 per year. The costs have been derived based on a conservative estimate for a reasonably comfortable lifestyle. The actual amount could be higher or lower depending on individual student’s expenditure and lifestyle pattern. For more information on the cost of living in Singapore, please visit our website: http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/scholarships-fi nancialaid/fi nancialaid/fi nancial-tution-fees-coaup.html

Financial Needs Calculator This calculator is designed to help prospective students determine their annual fi nancial needs to pursue a tertiary education in NUS. To access the calculator, please visit our website:https://aces01.nus.edu.sg/webroapsbs/jsp/FinancialNeedsCalculator.jsp

APPLICATION FOR FINANCIAL AID

Financial Aid applications open from mid-October – 1 April every year. Prospective students who require fi nancial assistance should apply for Financial Aid during the stipulated application period after applying for admission to the University. Applications should be submitted regardless of whether an admission offer has been given by the University or whether there is an intention to apply for other fi nancial aid or scholarships. Please visit the Financial Aid website http://www.nus.edu.sg/fi nancialaid/ for more details on the application procedures.
