• Answer the question “so what?”

• What happened afterward as a result of this event.

• Show what happened before or after.

Procedure

• Team of three.

• One captain.

• Keep to the time limit.

• Make periodic announcements: turn off cell phones, no photos, etc.

• It is permissible to have absent group members.

Evaluation, Historical Quality (60%)• The most important aspect of an entry is its

historical quality, which determines 60% of the total evaluation. The judges' evaluation will rest on the students' success at conducting historical research, interpreting their research, and drawing conclusions.

• Sources.

• Balance (primary and secondary).

• Context (needs to show significance).

• Available primary sources.

• 500 word description of research process

• Annotate Bibliography– Primary and secondary sources separated– How was the source useful?– Internet sources can be primary and secondary– All sources should be properly cited and evaluated for

Judging Sheet Comments

• This is the MOST important!!!!– Be positive and constructive.

– Comments are critical because most students will not win any sort of medal or special prize.

– You are to be educators not experts!

Lunch/Post-Interviews

• Check in/volunteer to be a run-off judge.

• Discuss evaluations with your team.

• Determine the top 2 entries first and turn them in AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

• Rank the rest of the entries
