What is National Health Profile -:

National Health Profile (NHP) is an annual

publication of the Central Bureau of Health

Intelligence (CBHI).

The first release of the annual publication was

in 2005.

It covers all the major information on

Demography, Socio-Economic Status,

Disease Morbidity & Mortality, Healthcare

Finance, Human Resources in Health and

Healthcare Infrastructure.

NHP is an initiative which is at par with

international standards of data publications]

The NHP highlights substantial health

information under major indicators viz.

demographic indicators (population and vital

statistics), socio-economic indicators (education,

employment, housing and amenities, drinking

water and sanitation) and health status indicators

(incidence and prevalence of common

communicable and non-communicable diseases

andRCH) etc. The health finance section

provides an overview of health insurance and

expenditure on health, both public and Out of

Pocket Expenditure (OOP)etc.

Objective and utility NHP -:

The objective of NHP is to create a versatile

data base of health information of India and

making it available to all stakeholders in the

healthcare sector.

The purpose is to provide relevant

information for planning and decision making

on an informed basis to the planners, policy

makers, health administrators, research

workers and others engaged in raising the

health and socio-economic status of the

community.

This publication takes into account recent

trends in demography, disease profile

(communicable and non

communicable/lifestyle diseases) and

available health resources which define a

country's health status

Lymphatic Filariasis

Context -:

Dr. Harsh Vardhan inaugurates National Symposium

on the theme ‘United to Eliminate Lymphatic

Filariasis’.

Lymphatic filariasis -:

It is considered globally as a neglected tropical

disease (NTD), is a parasitic disease caused by

microscopic, thread-like worms.

The adult worms only live in the human lymph

system. The lymph system maintains the body’s

fluid balance and fights infections.

to person by mosquitoes.

What are Neglected Tropical Diseases?

The World Health Organization (WHO)

prioritizes 17 neglected tropical diseases

(NTDs) that affect over a billion of the

world’s poorest people and pose a

significant economic burden to developing

economies.

NTDs are a heterogeneous group of

infections caused by parasites, viruses, and

bacteria.

What makes NTDs different from non-

neglected diseases is that these diseases

are disablers rather than killers.

Indeed, these infections are co-endemic:

an individual may be infected with more

than one NTD in addition to other well-

known diseases such as HIV,

tuberculosis, and malaria

Cyclone Maha

Context -:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has

issued an alert over a second cyclone brewing in

the Arabian Sea, even as severe cyclone Kyarr

remains active in the sea as it paces away from the

western coast of India toward Oman.

Detail -:

The depression that had developed in the

Comorin Sea intensified into a cyclonic storm

named Maha on Wednesday evening.

According to IMD, it is likely to cross

Lakshadweep Islands by Thursday noon

as a severe cyclonic storm and emerge

thereafter into the east Central Arabian

Sea.

The latest forecast suggests that the

cyclone is rapidly intensifying and could

become a very severe cyclonic storm on

Friday.

Weather condition -:

The weather department has warned of extremely

heavy rainfall at isolated places over Lakshadweep

Islands and heavy rainfall over Kerala during the

next two days.

Winds reaching upto 90 to 100 kmph and tidal

waves up to 1 mtr, are expected in the Lakshadweep

area.

Sea conditions will be very rough over Lakshadweep

area from 31 October to 2 November and IMD has

advised fishermen not to venture out to southeast

and eastcentral Arabian Sea during the period.

Kyarr cyclone

The name Kyaar was given by Myanmar.

KYAAR a rare tropical cyclone barreling across

the Arabian Sea has reached the intensity of a

Category 4 hurricane, becoming the strongest

storm recorded in the area for 12 years

Cyclone Kyarr, the super cyclonic storm over the

east-central Arabian Sea, which marched towards

Oman coast and then turns south west.

Tropical Cyclone Kyarr is the strongest storm in

the Arabian Sea since Tropical Cyclone Gonu in

2007.

National Pension Scheme

Context-:

Pension Fund Regulatory and Development

Authority (PFRDA) has now permitted Overseas

Citizen of India (OCI) to enroll in National Pension

Scheme (NPS) at par with Non-Resident Indians.

About NPS -:

National Pension System (NPS) is a government

sponsored pension scheme.

It was launched in January 2004 for government

employees only but from 2009, it was opened to

all sections.

पेंशन िंड रेगुलेटरी एंड डेवलपमेंट अथॉररटी

(PFRDA) ने अब ओवरसीज कसकटजन ऑि

इंकडय (OCI) िो नॉन-रेकजडेंट इंकडयंस िे

स थ नेशनल पेंशन स्कीम (NPS) में द स्खल

लेने िी अनुमकि दे दी है।

एनपीएस िे ब रे में -:

It is managed by PFRDA (Pension Fund

Regulatory and Development Authority).

The scheme allows subscribers to contribute

regularly in a pension account during their

working life. On retirement, subscribers can

withdraw a part of the corpus in a lumpsum

and use the remaining corpus to buy an annuity

to secure a regular income after retirement

Any Indian citizen between 18 and 60 years

can join NPS. The only condition is that the

person must comply with know your customer

(KYC) norms

NPS was extended to all citizens of Indian

on voluntary basis from May 2009 and to

corporates in December 2011 and to Non-

Malware in NPCIL system

Context -:

Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) said

that a malware was identified in the Nuclear

Power Corporation of India Limited system

and it was conveyed to them by the Indian

Computer Emergency Response Team

(CERT-In) on 4th September.

DAE on Wednesday confirmed that the

NPCIL plant systems are not affected and

the networks are being continuously

monitored.

A comprehensive public outreach programme by

NEERI namely Jagruti-Ek Samaj, Ek Lakshya was

launched by the Vice President.

Under this public-driven initiative of Science

and Technology, unmapped rivers will be

rejuvenated by creating Alliance for Rivers

(AFR) and this programme will also create

Water Literacy among masses.

2nd Assembly of International Solar Alliance (ISA)

Context-:

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)

on Wednesday said that as many as 400 delegates

from across the globe are expected to attend the

second Assembly of the International Solar Alliance

(ISA) here on Thursday.

About ISA assembly -:

The Assembly is the supreme decision-making body

of the ISA and gives directions on various

administrative, financial and programme-related

issues.

International solar alliance -:

The ISA is an Indian initiative launched by the

Prime Minister of India and the President of

France in November 2015 in Paris, France, on

the sidelines of the COP-21, with 121 solar

resource rich countries lying fully or partially

between the tropic of cancer and tropic of

capricorn as prospective members.

The overarching objective of the ISA is to

collectively address key common challenges to

the scaling up of solar energy in ISA member

countries.

Terror in Kashmir a big
