The H. William Christ Educator Prize is an annual award presented in honor of former NCGS Trustee and long-time visionary Head of Hathaway Brown School Bill Christ, established in 2016 by his friends at Hathaway Brown. NCGS presents this award to a faculty member who has demonstrated commitment to extraordinary teaching, program design, and/or curricular innovation in a member school.

Maria Evans came to education after a lengthy career as an aerospace engineer. As Chair of the STEM Department at Foxcroft School, she has spearheaded the addition of engineering, AP computer science, and other new science courses; the integration of technology across the curriculum; and the cultivation of relevant partnerships and extracurricular opportunities to create a model program.

The Study in Quebec was named recipient of the 2017-2018 Moulton Student Global Citizenship Grant. NCGS co-founder Meg Moulton established the annual prize in honor of the Coalition’s 25th anniversary for a faculty-led team of NCGS member school students. The grant helps engage girls in leadership, fortify their strategic thinking, and enhance their global mindfulness by developing empathy and respect for others.

The grant allows The Study community to continue building its existing relationship with The Diria Institute, a high school in rural Nicaragua, to create a vocational center for girls. The project engages the entire Study community, including students in grades K-11, parents, faculty, board members, and alumnae. A group of students in grades 9-11 go on an annual community service trip to The Diria Institute.

NCGS presents this award to a woman who has made outstanding contributions to the Coalition and one of its member schools to further the NCGS purpose to be the “leading advocate for girls’ schools, connecting and collaborating globally with individuals, schools, and organizations dedicated to educating and empowering girls.”

A current NCGS Trustee and former chair of the Board, Trudy Hall most recently served as Director of Strategic Initiatives at Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart. School Communities: The Power of Many Voices• How do our schools create a warm and welcoming

sense of community?• How do the various “communities” in our schools —

students, teachers, administrators, admissions, advancement, parents, alumnae, and more — collaborate to create a space where girls feel safe, valued, and successful?

• How do our schools resolve conflict when any one of these voices is perceived to overshadow others?

Join fellow educators to discuss these questions and more as well as hear from keynote speakers Dr. Lisa Damour, author of Untangled, and Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum, President Emerita of Spelman College.

2019 NCGS CONFERENCEJune 24-26, 2019Westridge SchoolLos Angeles, CA

It is critical to instill in girls and young women the confidence to dream, dare, and do. Girls’ aspirations and creative thinking must be encouraged in order to take shape and grow. This is achieved by ensuring girls are inspired to challenge limits, explore new possibilities, embrace innovation, and seize opportunities. Courage and a willingness to take risks without fear of failure is essential to a girl’s creative process as she turns her dreams into reality. Girls’ schools are the perfect environments in which to spark, incubate, and launch the next generation of female makers, inventors, engineers, and entrepreneurs.
