provided significant inputs in the creation of a concrete action plan of the industry

which is set to achieve the 2020 Cacao Challenge, that is, achieving the 100,000 MT

production level by year 2020.

Among the major suggested strategies presented for the National Industry Action

Plan includes 1) Industry strengthening, expansion and promotion; 2) Easy access to

high yielding and pest/disease resistant variety of cacao seedlings; 3) Improvement

of farm productivity level, and; 4) promotion of value-adding activities along the

value chain.

The collaboration did not end with end of the activity. Instead, a proposed National

Cacao Steering Group composed of enablers and industry players across the

country is being put in the pipeline to ensure that the industry will keep and work

together for the achievement of the Cacao Challenge.

Indeed, the National Cacao Industry Cluster Convergence organized by the

Department of Trade and Industry in partnership with the Cacao Industry

Development Association of Mindanao (CIDAMI) and ACDI/VOCA, did not only

established a venue to converge and work together for the strengthening of the

cacao industry cluster but also showed that the Philippine Cacao Industry is On the

Go towards development.
