What is social media?

A.A place full of egotistical selfie takers with too much time and 4G

data on their hands?

B.A place where bad things happen - sexting on Snapchat,

cyberbullying on Facebook, and political movements in the wrong

direction on Twitter?

C.A place to connect with friends, family, and like-minded people to

share positive thought provoking things to better the world?

Why social media for language learning?● Languages are living

● Books are great, even online resources are great, but nothing is

more current than the language you can learn via social media

● Around 6,000 tweets per SECOND(!) = endless supply of FREE

language learning material (www.internetlivestats.com/one-second/ )

● Text, image, video = variety of content

● Are we learning to speak with Molière or Molly the pretty French girl

from next door?
