Introduction
This Neighbourhood Action Plan (NAP) has been developed for South Reddish and Heaton Chapel by Stockport Homes in partnership with customers, services and organisations working and living in the area. The Neighbourhood is located within Stockport Homes’ West Area Housing Team and is managed by Neighbourhood Housing Officers (NHOs), contact details are shown on the front page.
NAPs are developed in order to identify the key issues in a neighbourhood and to develop actions to address these issues. NAPs can cover a range of social, economic and environmental issues, which includes housing, the environment, community safety, leisure and access to services and facilities. The NAPs are influenced by a range of existing polices, strategies and action plans at national, regional

and local levels. The information used to develop the plan links to Stockport Council’s strategic plans and supports the Place and People strategic objectives. The NAP has been developed by analysing data about the area, looking at current and developing policies and plans in the area, results of consultation with customers and talking to other partners and services about their plans for their areas.
Stockport Homes manages a range of properties comprising of bungalows, flats and houses. In addition, Stockport Homes manages a number of garage units, landscaped and play areas within the neighbourhood.
Neighbourhood Activity 2010-2011
A range of projects have been delivered in the neighbourhood over the last 12 months. This has included physical improvements to properties and within the neighbourhood, in addition to a programme of activities and events throughout the year. Regular updates have been made to customers through the Neighbourhood Newsletters, and this will continue throughout this year. The following highlights the key areas of activity of the last 12 months in South Reddish and Heaton Chapel:
• A programme of community clean ups and estate walkabouts across South Reddish and Heaton Chapel with partners and residents
• An action plan is in place with the Police and Stockport Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team to tackle issues in South Reddish, including regular monitoring by the Police, Stockport Rangers and five youths signing an “acceptable behaviour” contract
• A new play area was built at Marbury Road, Heaton Chapel through funding secured from the Play Builder programme, Procure Plus, Stockport Council and Stockport Homes
• Weekly play sessions are provided by Play Development at Marbury Road, Unity Park through funding from the Big Lottery
• Successful Estate Improvement Budget projects have been completed to provide community notice boards at Woodhall

Crescent and Willow Avenue, new handrails and landscaping to the rear of Meadows Road, fencing to rear of Woodhall Crescent and improvement works to external communal areas and Leamington Court. Better recycling facilities have been provided at Greenbank, Heaton Chapel, and Lambs Fold improvements to rear communal areas to provide seating and improved surroundings. New fencing has been provided at Scott Close to improve security and the appearance to the rear of the properties
• Environmental works have been completed at Coronation Street to improve Frobisher Place, to provide soft landscaping, repaving, planting and access
• New fencing works have been completed at Blackbrook Road and Carnforth Road, Heaton Chapel
• New kitchen and bathrooms works have been carried out to properties at Heaton Chapel
• Partnership work with Stockport Council’s Recycling Teams has led to improved facilities at Greenbank and Marbury Road and an awareness campaign on the new bin collection has been carried out at Priory Lane
• Stockport Homes continues to work closely with the Council’s Dog Warden Service, through promoting of leaflets to residents regarding dog fouling issues and providing advice on being a responsible dog owner.
Neighbourhood and Customer Profile
South Reddish lies to the north of Stockport Town Centre, whilst the area is primarily residential there are some industrial / commercial areas, Whitehall and Bankfield Trading Estates. Strategically, the location of south Reddish is good. The area has excellent access to the M60 being within half a mile of junction 27, approximately 20 minutes from Manchester Airport by car. It is also close to Stockport Town Centre, has a good bus service and its own railway station served by the Manchester to Sheffield line with a direct rail link into Manchester City Centre and the Peak District with a half hourly service.
South Reddish has a mix of formal and informal green spaces, to the east lies Reddish Vale Country Park and Reddish Vale Golf Course. In addition, South Reddish park provides a range of facilities including play, football and bowling. The neighbourhood benefits from Unity Park off Ambleside Road, which is currently being refurbished to provide additional play facilities.
The neighbourhood contains one of the eight district centres across the Borough. Reddish Centre provides a range of shops, services and a local supermarket focused around the Houldsworth Square, at the junction of B5169/B6167. The centre is overlooked by Houldsworth Mill, recently converted to provide

new homes, business enterprises and a gym. Within the area there are also a number of small parades of shops providing a range of services. The area benefits from a range of community buildings and facilities.
The NAP covers two wards, Heaton North and South Reddish and one Area Committee, Reddish South. The following information is based on wards, South Reddish which has a population of 14,175 and Heatons North with a population of 13,115. The residents are predominately aged 30-59 and there is a higher than average number of residents aged 75 and above. The neighbourhoods are predominately white British and the majority have access to a car or van.
The following information is an overview of the data on Stockport Homes’ customers living within the neighbourhood. Of the customers on which data is held. living in the neighbourhood 5% are from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds, for those customers who have supplied disability and age information it indicates that 25% have a disability. The age profile shows 49% are aged 65 or over with 45% aged 25-54 years old.
Stockport Homes’ customers are involved in many ways to ensure that all customers have the chance to get involved and influence the decisions and services received that affect their home and neighbourhood. In addition to a range of ways customers can get involved, the neighbourhood benefits from an active Tenants’ and Residents’ Association at Woodhall and Willow Crescent.
